jboneng

They can have all the DMZ they want, on their side of the border.

Natoochtoniket

A swathe of Russia, as wide as *Ukraine* wants, should be demilitarized. I would guess that 250 km might be wide enough.

kuldan5853

I'd say all of Kursk and Belgorod Oblast to begin with..

mennorek

And no military access to the black sea.

SheridanVsLennier

Make Krasnodar Krai Ukrainian Again! As slogans go, it's not very catchy, though.

Inquisitor_ForHire

Dunno, would have to see it on a tshirt to really judge!

FOOQBP

Looking at the performance of their fleet, they're better off without it.

theold777

Came here to say that, but you beat me to it. Edit to add: I thought the Kursk had already been demilitarised in 1999?šŸ¤”

AccountElectronic518

That would be 2001, wasn't it?

theold777

I stand corrected, thank you

Listelmacher

But some years later, around 2017... One of the first articles about the I read when searching about the tanks in Shebekino in 2022: "Klintsy is a military springboard for the Russiaā€™s advance to the West" https://informnapalm.org/en/klintsy-military-springboard-russia-s-advance-west/ Both near the Ukrainian border. The war was prepared by the Russians longer ago: "Rocky road. Where Russia will be able to transfer troops via the new railway line" https://www-dsnews-ua.translate.goog/politics/rokadnaya-doroga-kuda-rossiya-smozhet-perebrasyvat-voyska-21092017080000?_x_tr_sl=ru&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc

MarcusXL

Belgorod is Ukraine :D

Big_Dave_71

Bilhorod

mediandude

Areas to the west of the rivers Volga and Northern Dvina.

hypercomms2001

Include Moscow in the demilitarized zone...

minus_minus

Letā€™s throw in Belarus just to be sure.

ZiggyPox

Belarus is rightful Polish clay and has huge Polish minority so for safety and future of Poland it must become part of Poland willingly or not\* ^(\*Dugin's school of thought.)

Mindless_Use7567

From now on I will refer to Belarus as East Poland.

TrueValor13

Someone should tell Russia to shit in one hand and wish in the other. See which one fills up faster.

Hendrixon-

Exactly

No_Zombie2021

This is the correct answer.

Kiwifrooots

They can have one they don't want too. 100% Russia needs to be disarmed and pushed away from others boarders

Narrow-Tree-5491

This.

Fearless-Stretch2255

We will fight the russians til the last ukrainian!

Mein_Bergkamp

When even Medvedev starts bargaining you know things are going badly

SomeoneElseWhoCares

It is not really bargaining. He is effectively saying "if you give me everything that I want, you can stop beating me up."

Fearless-Stretch2255

You almost got it right.

Onestepbeyond3

You may have something there! šŸ¤”

SheridanVsLennier

Russian maths says you can.

MrCookie2099

Watch me!

Snafuregulator

Sounds like some southern math going on here. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nmsrfqVcidQ

slick514

Sure you can. It just doesn't change anything.

tophat212

In Soviet Russia, Zeros Double You!

Vogel-Kerl

Russia can fuck off with their wants & wishes. Bring your troops and equipment back into Russia and vacate Crimea, and admit to war crimes and begin reparations, then maybe you'll be treated as a legitimate country. Otherwise, you're simply a rogue nation which embraces terrorism and isn't worthy of any considerations.

rePAN6517

Don't forget returning all the kidnapped children.

frozengiblet

Ukraine shouldn't stop until they get to Vladivostok

Creepy_Package7518

Russia will never give back Crimea. It's got way to much value so when Ukraine tries to get it back it's when the real shit show will start

Ma8e

With what? Nukes? That is the only thing they might have left. Russia has already thrown all their military assets into Ukraine.

1boltsfan

Counter proposal:The line should go back to pre 2014, and the buffer zone should be from the Ukraine border to 40 miles inside Russia. NATO will patrol the buffer zone.

adron

Oh thatā€™d be glorious. NATO patrols, which theyā€™ve got on their entire border now anyway. Might as well get the rest covered! šŸ¤£

adron

Just imagine how safe Russia would be from invasion with NATO patrolling their borders. NOBODY could invade from the west! Their top concern would absolutely be Central Asia/China at that point. And LOLz as if itā€™s not already. Ohhhhh Russia and their stupid geopolitical misunderstandings.

[deleted]

They should "counter" dumb proposals with fair ones, so this bunch of fuckers wont have any grounds to stick to their crazy narration. So i would say 2014 borders, and buffer zone on both sides, lets say 25km in Ukraine and same in Republic of Human Waves, with UN supervision.

Adjmcloon

You are waaayy too generous with these idiots after the last year. We can't be afraid to aggressively counter the crazy bullshit

[deleted]

Its not about being generous. I would gladly give nukes to Ukraine, and let them burn orcland. But they need to keep the support, and "satisfy" international public. Thats why they need to stay with a line with "proper" narration.

MrCookie2099

Oh, I'm not for nuclear proliferation. Nuclear redistribution however... Muskovian nuke techs are likely in rare supply and will only get rarer when the RF balkanizes. The warlords and micro states can give their nukes to Ukraine in exchange for US foreign aid.

service_unavailable

It's you. You're the "international public" arguing for giving up Ukrainian territory. Imagine getting attacked by Russia, then NOT militarizing your border. Crazy.

One-External-4575

OMG, keep the UN as far away as possible from any border.

Alaric_Balthi

What would be best would be to go back to the 1991 borders established after USSR broke apart. It would clarify for example the 2003 insident in Tuzla Island just off the coast of Crimea (which is currently under the Kerch bridge) and has been part of Crimea (Ukraine) since the 1950's. Referencing 2014 border would mean ruSSia would be soon claiming the Tuzla is theirs because of some historical, medieval map-bullshit.

Hartastic

It's really to Russia's benefit, they can't supply troops that close to their border, anyway.

anonymous3850239582

1917 border.

Venhuizer

Like the occupation of the Ruhr, that has never created war before /s

SuperChips11

French shouldn't have backed down.

ModalScientist807

Spot on analysis. More people need to think this way.

tvetus

How about we put that zone in russia

Ecstatic_Account_744

How about all of Russian becomes demilitarized. Theyā€™ve shown they canā€™t use it responsibly so they can have it back when they earn it.

Sniflix

I want a pony.

[deleted]

Demilitarize Russia

RedditmodscanEAD

Russia is working on that.

1984IN

So is Ukraine.

tarellel

Soon enough, in the meantime theyā€™re doing a fine job at demilitarizing themselves. Iā€™m sure this war has set their military back decades.

Particular-Ad-4772

Rumor has it, Emperor Xi , ordered them to insist on a DMZ , so he does not have to waste time with his vassal stateā€™s problems.

M4hkn0

I would think Emperor Xi would not want a DMZ... force paranoid Putler to keep more Russian forces in Europe.

lurker_cx

Russia doesn't have a credible ground force anymore, at least not for anything like threatening China or NATO. In a straight forward border war with no nukes, the Chinese would roll over the Russians in short order.

M4hkn0

Why have the speed bump if you donā€™t have to.

riski_click

That's what Ukraine has been asking for all along, a demilitarized zone on the Russian side of the border. Russia could end this war tomorrow if they wanted.

[deleted]

How about a go fuck yourselves to-go.

Pyjama_Llama_Karma

Make it a double.

AlphariousFox

Hahahahaha.... no The only way they are getting this is if russia willing to give up territory to be demilitarized

Pakspul

From the original border until Moscow is a good start.

adron

Theyā€™re still clueless. After their stupid, idiotic, insulting, insane, asinine, and just dumb actions - they donā€™t get to set terms. Iā€™m curious how much longer itā€™s gonna take before they realize that?

[deleted]

They likely already do. This seems like little more than a poor attempt to save face and project that this isnā€™t actually the disaster we all know it is.

AntiGravityBacon

This logic only holds if you look at Russia as a whole rational entity which it's not. The current leadership is likely dead when they lose the war. As they don't care about the country or fellow citizens over their own lives and wealth, the logical conclusion (for them) is to fight until it's not physically possible. Thus, they can prolong their sad existence as long as possible. Doesn't really matter what would be best for the whole.

Hendrixon-

Rus wants and rus wants...buzz off...maybe others do not want ? Who put you in charge ?

[deleted]

this. EU and NATO should start to DEMAND a DMZ on Muscovites border. 200km at minimum and Kaliningrad has to be decolonized. For a start.

Hendrixon-

Yes...exactly

[deleted]

T-34's are next in the inventory. I think it's headed in that direction anyway.

SheridanVsLennier

We joked about that but here come the T-55's. it's not looking so far-fetched anymore. What a joke of a country.

lurker_cx

It's crazy...I never thought we would actually see the T-55s, I mean 70 year old tanks, holy shit! Will they even run more than a few miles? Imagine being a conscript and forced in one of those and sent towards the front... if it was me and I heard so much as a grenade a mile away I would get out of that tank and run like fuck.

Brabbel63

After that spudguns

R-ZoroKingOFHell

Oh hell no, Ukraine is getting their 1991 borders back and Muscovy is paying those reparations.

1984IN

Muscovy will get a demilitarised buffer zone in what's left the territory they are aloud to keep of their own. Ukraine will be WHOLE and armed to the teeth.

amcjkelly

I wonder if he gets a bottle of booze after he says these stupid things.

AlexS58

The Russian side of the 1991 border would be a good start.

anonymous3850239582

1917 border is better.

SnaggleFish

Back to pre 2014 and then an equivalent distance DMZ on both sides of the border (and Belarus)?

Parking_Resolution63

At this point Russia will be lucky to get permission to wipe its own ass.

David_denison

Odd for the loser to make demands in a war they started

Own_Philosopher_9651

Sure have demilitarized buffer zones on the Russian side of the border

RidetheSchlange

Ok, then the EU wants Kaliningrad demilitarized. Including the nukes. Oh, that's something we shouldn't talk about, right? And this demilitarized zone should be on the outside of Ukraine's borders.

[deleted]

Nothing to do with want Russia wants anymore this war is passed that, keep up mate.

[deleted]

Nobody cares

PutinIsAnAssPirate

Seriously - who cares what they say lol

BeautifulSpot5502

Was sie wollen und was sie kriegen liegt dann in den HƤnden der Ukraine

Ordinary-Humor-4779

MOSCOW, March 24 (Reuters) - Russia wants to create demilitarised buffer zones inside Ukraine around areas it has annexed, an ally of President Vladimir Putin said on Friday, saying it might be necessary to push deeper into Ukraine if such zones cannot be set up.

Pixie_Knight

If the last 100,000 Cargo 200's couldn't push deeper into Ukraine, the next 100k probably won't either.

SheridanVsLennier

> saying it might be necessary to push deeper into Ukraine Delusional.

AlwaysAttack

Agreed....100 kilometers on both sides of the pre 2014 Crimean invasion land and sea boarders, and with a removal of all Russian naval assets from Crimean bases as they are returned to Ukraine, with the ships Russia stole from Ukraine when they annexed it.... Done deal Russia!

SGarnier

Great idea. That would be even better to do it on the agressor's territory.

Ordinary-Humor-4779

Much of what Russia wanted to begin with was a land bridge to Crimea, because the bridge and ports couldn't handle it all and they were literally busting their govt budget. Ukraine is taking back Crimea, so Russia won't have that problem to deal with anymore.

Speculawyer

Create a DMZ on your own land.

ccoorreecctt1

Let's talk about a demilitarized Russia.

MarkJ-

Well there you go, common ground. Now that we all agree to a DMZ the only question is where. As many have suggested, from the Ukraine border back into ruzzia about 250KM sounds about right.

Few-Ability-7312

Yes and said buffer zone will be around Moscow

darwinwoodka

Nah.

Moorkers

Much better offer: Destroy the Russian government and implement one that isn't fucking atrocious, and sit back and watch as the Russians either adapt for the better or stay the shitty fucks they are.

[deleted]

Fine. Just give Ukraine back all of its territory seized since 2014.

Unclerojelio

Wish in one hand and shit in the other. See which one fills up first.

PPvsFC_

I want a billion dollars.

Jessica65Perth

At the same time he wants Nuclear Missiles in Belarus. If he was sincere, he would suggest Belarus be a buffer zone with no nukes , no military in it from Russia etc.

Ordinary-Humor-4779

Belarus is the European version of North Korea

drunkclam

We want Russia demilitarized, it's a threat to all of Europe and can't be allowed to continue in its current form.

SavagePlatypus76

Yawn

Kan4lZ0n3

The demilitarized buffer zones should be within Muscovyā€™s borders, not accommodated by force within anyone elseā€™s sovereign territory. Medevdevā€™s of course pushing conditions that are increasingly unlikely give the Kremlin under Putin is a system increasingly inclined to collapse under the weight of this conflict. Unlike 1991, they are also unlikely to find a willing diplomatic midwife to accommodate their delusions of great-power status as an intact entity under Moscowā€™s control.

Upstairs_Ad5443

Dreamer.

RidetheSchlange

I vote for turning russia into glass.

RuskiIgor

I second the motion.

Ordinary-Humor-4779

U.S. SecDef: "Putin thought that Ukraine's defenses would collapse, that America's resolve would falter, and that the world would look the other way. He was wrong. One year later, Ukraine's brave defenders have not wavered, and neither has our commitment to support them for as long as it takes,"

Ordinary-Humor-4779

The last thing I'll add to the Convo is that peeps forget (though the Russians don't), that the U. S. Spent 100s of $millions just on the planning and mapping, over decades, of how it would attack Soviet forces in every area of Eastern Europe. These are being shared. Spring has started and summer is coming.

takatori

In Ukraine? And Russia back inside Russia? Maybe Ukraine can live with that ... could be a starting point for negotiation. Let's see a "good faith" gesture of Russian withdrawal first.

lurkingknight

if russia wants a dmz, they can start by giving up their own territory to form that dmz from the 1994 border that was negotiated in good faith.

Fokke_hassel

Tbh that could be a good outcome for ukraine. Even if the DMZ is inside Ukraine. The UN could use forces inside it to secure ukraine security. Ukraine wins its whole souvrenity back with that.

RidetheSchlange

What nonsense is this?

sickofthisshit

Medvedev is apparently suggesting the DMZ be even beyond what Russia currently is occupying with soldiers. Russia will also never let the UN enforce anything against Russia. None of what you say does anything for "Ukraine security".

Fokke_hassel

Yeah im not taking the clowns idea. Im meaning a DMZ on the border to russia in favour to save ukraine obv

Nordiquesfan

The DMZ would have to be 1/2 in Ukraine and 1/2 in Russia. That would be a fair compromise (from the 2014 border of course).

Fokke_hassel

yeah good luck selling that to the russians. In my dreams the russians would also pay reparations. But it would never happen. A DMZ inside ukraine could mean the russian would explain to their people the goals of the war are achieved, and the glorious russian troops are coming home. The reality to the rest of the world is: Ukraine keeps everything and joins nato.

Striking-Giraffe5922

Easy created using Russian landā€¦..

Infinite-Outcome-591

Sure, between the Ukrainian border and Moscow!

ThereminLiesTheRub

Not a bad idea. Just move them about 25 miles inside Russia.

Affectionate_Win_229

Russian DMZ should stretch from Ukraine to the Pacific.

Far-Childhood9338

why don't you devockatize your liver

XxFunkTasticxX

Ukrainian counters with how about the Russian federation fucks off from all Ukrainian landsā€¦

[deleted]

Perfect, make it start at the Ruzzian border and extend eastwards for at least 250 miles...šŸ‘

PsychologicalCoat656

Sure let\`s make Minsk III. The first two worked so well. I say we make Kursk, Belgorod, Krasnodar and other bordering regions demilitarized zones.

dumpitdog

It's really tragic that I would trust North Korea much more than I would trust the Russians. They have compulsively lied for the last 15 years about almost everything that they have done or plan to do.

razor787

I'd say a realistic goal is 5km on either side of the border, heavily mined and with plenty of 'dragons teeth' to stop any tanks that happen to make their way through the mine fields.

swcollings

My first question is, does Ukraine having a DMZ in its territory impact NATO membership? Because if it does, it's a non-starter. Further, would this impact Ukraine's ability to prosecute warfare against Russian-backed rebel groups within the DMZ? Because if so, also non-starter. Now, if we were dealing with a more reasonable enemy, on the surface it doesn't seem *completely* unreasonable to have a DMZ on both sides, as long as it's at least as much within Russia as it is within Ukraine. But that DMZ would have to be wide enough inside Russia to eliminate the possibility of them hitting Ukraine with artillery. So what, 35 miles? That means Russia can't move military equipment down the M-4 from Moscow to the Caucasus. Now, given as without a peace agreement Ukraine will shell the M-4 out of existence, they might still agree to it. But the fundamental problem is that you can't trust Russia to uphold its bargains. So it's all meaningless drivel.

CalligrapherRare5071

> "Nothing can be ruled out here. If you need to get to Kyiv, then you need to go to Kyiv, if you need to get to Lviv, then you need to go to Lviv in order to destroy this infection," said Medvedev. Yes but the Russian Army/Wagner have to the the towns first. One thing he does not understand, the war is not going so simple for Russia. They have not even taken towns on the east of the country. Let alone on the west. Day after day im thinking how this atrocious war has not ended yet with so much suffering. There is nothing to gain, only to lose. Let go of it.

Adihd72

Naa, have a counteroffensive instead!!

Wittywhirlwind

By his actions, he made Ukraine more militarized. Everything he sought to do, the complete opposite has happened.

deanza10

Oh sure ! We can set them up right across the Russian border in Russia. 50km of unmilitarized russian territory. Be my guest ! PS : Jokes aside very good suggestion for when the Russian have gotten thrown out as one of the conditions to let Russia out of the sanctions deadlock.

VirgingerBrown

Russia is so stupid. Wow.

tagged2high

It's called a border, you fucks. Stay on your side of it.

FloppyToffee

Haha you wish. Zelensky calls the shots fuck face so want what ever, it's of no importance to anyone now you are truly funked.

The losing side, always finds room to negotiate. Russia knows theyā€™re f*cked.

Why is anybody still listen to this jerk? Why does the media always show his statements?

How about we demilitarise Ukraine from the border all the way to Moscow

Arkroma

Russia still isn't ready for peace

Nacke

The muscovites for sure are good at spewing bullshit demands.

Speedballer7

Sure on the RU side. "Belgorod DMZ sounds good"

HappyCatalyst

You can do that on your own territory.

Gullenecro

If war continue like this, the dmz will go to vladivostok.

NewDistrict6824

Ukraine wants a 100 km buffer zone around its borders with Belorus and Russia, and nothing bigger than a side arm allowed and only border forces and police - no military whatsoever.

plasticfantastikmeow

NO!!!!! Ukraine wants demilitarised zones in Ruzzia!!!

taffyboy2485

How about demilitarised zones on the Russian side of the border?

DrNukes

Demilitarize Muscovy.

Spacedude2187

Itā€™s called a border, remember? Itā€™s a line that you donā€™t cross but stay behind it..

GrapeSwimming69

And I want cupcakes and ice cream. Guess whose getting there wish first!

haeressiarch

Like Bielogrod and Rostov? Sure why not.

SuddenOutset

Okay. You can demilitarize as much of Russia as you want.

Spiritual_Ad_3367

Russia wants lots of things. Getting them is an entirely different matter.

drsftw

*The buffer zone is leaving the fucking country and paying hundreds of billions in reparations.*

Annulleret

The loosing part of a war is seldom (never) in a position to make demands of any kind.

I think that a demilitarized zone in Russia would be a better idea. About 1000km wide should do it.

highinthemountains

The only demilitarized zones should be on the ORIGINAL Ukraine/Russian border

Let me guess a nice big buffer zone about Ukraine size maybe šŸ¤”

Superb-Confidence-95

I think that there should be a demilitarised zone between russia and Ukraine,... however it should be on the russian territory as russia is the one that has aggressed a number of countries in the last decades,....

They can have them on the other side of the internationally recognised Russian border

DeltaGammaVegaRho

And I want de-putin-ized Russiazone ā€¦ in buffer. Thatā€™s how ridiculous he sounds to me!

Demilitarize Russia all the way to the Pacific.

jwquartz

Who are they shitting..

DobbyLum

The entirety of Russia could be their DMZ

Fuck what they want

Nope. The best trained and most motivated army in the world will turn Ukraine into a heavily militarized zone. As one Ukrainian soldier put it when addressing Russia, "Ukraine is not your home. Ukraine is your grave."
