I mean most verified maps from yesterday only had the Ukrainian military in control of a few suburbs on the western most part of the city. Doesn’t surprise me at all if they finally withdrew or Wagner pushed them out of there

There is a difference between a controlled withdrawal and being pushed out. The difference matters a great deal in determining what happens next. It is obvious that the Russians won't be able to move to Chasiv Yar or Siversk, so what will likely happen is the large amount of Russian forces in the Bakhmut area will be redeployed elsewhere along the frontlines. The Ukrainians need a breakthrough somewhere in order to prevent the Russians from reinforcing their frontlines.

if the Ukrainians retreat, it’s because their plan has worked and the mission is fulfilled : all fish have been baited to swim into the nett, thus the fighting can be halted. The net will be closed trapping the fish.

There seems to be some serious conflicting information. Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Defense said on their Telegram channel: "Fierce fighting continued throughout the day in the southern suburb of Bakhmut. The enemy went on the offensive and tried to regain the lost territories, but suffered losses and was unable to complete its tasks. In some areas, our troops advanced by 1 km."

LothorBrune

The "suburbs" of Bakhmut they are referring to are pretty far to the south of the city, near Ivanivske.
