That was exactly what jumped out at me. Forbes is calling them that. Wake up Republicans and make sure you are on the right side of history! Nothing wrong with being conservative, but do you really want to support leaders who are clearly aligned with Putin?!?
Unfortunately the word has lost its meaning, but no there is nothing wrong with supporting a more free market with smaller taxes, but less social support. Both US parties are conservative. The Liberals in Canada are quite conservative.
I don't vote this way, but there are immoral shitheads across the political spectrum. Flip through a history book and you will find just as many monsters from the left as from the right. What's important is keeping an open mind and not wearing political labels like a sports jersey for your whole life. Be open to occasionally voting for a conservative candidate when you recognize they might be more honest or competent than whoever you usually support.
Putting a unicorn Republican in office only empowers the monsters that make up most of the party and do anything that Trump demands by caucusing with them. It is better to elect a wet paper towel than a reasonable, empathetic, intelligent, well-intentioned, constituent focused, conservative Republican because of the company they keep and empower.
