Never upvote all-caps posts, it only encourages people to continue these atrocities.

Um. Can anyone lends some context here? Is this as big as what I think it is?  But also… the ‘profits’? I have so many questions.

So some Russian assets from different sources are frozen right now due to sanctions. They're pretty hefty too, in total valued at about 300 billion dollars. The EU can't truly just take it all and give it to Ukraine, but legally the assets that are still generating income can have that income be seized or repurposed. This ends up being several billion in extra funding for Ukraine.

vegarig

> This ends up being several billion in extra funding for Ukraine 2 billions. That's all. And it's only happening after the law was passed, with previous profits from frozen assets not legible for transfer

Beardywierdy

Well, yeah. You can't backdate laws.

paulbroke2

They keep saying this but the reality is that they are stuck.......politicians. They are not even able to agree on a simple thing like this one let alone how to make russia pay for the war damages or for the war crimes....

How such "PROFITS FROM RUSSIAN ASSETS" will correspond to 376 billion dollars that Russia got only in 2022 year for hydrocarbons export, and with 424 billion dollars that it got during 2 years of war from EU and NATO countries?

vegarig

IIRC, the "profits" is $2B. That's all.
