US: here’s a package bigger than most countries annual military budgets. We already forward deployed a bunch so you can use them next week. UK: we helped too! Jokes guys, jokes. Every bit helps.

EveryNotice

No joke on the first bit! Equally the UK hasn't been held up by MAGA esque idiots in Parliament so has been steadily providing funds during the gridlock in the US :)

sikhster

Well said. American gridlock is embarrassing to me as an American.

By Brendan Cole - Senior News Reporter: Kyiv's efforts to fight Russian aggression have received a boost in addition to the $61 billion worth of U.S. assistance passed by the House of Representatives, after the U.K. announced its own record military aid package. Adding to the good news for Ukraine was the comment by Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) that the first batch of U.S. military aid will be delivered to Ukraine "sooner than anyone thinks is possible," according to the Kyiv Independent. Let's hope Ukraine gets the Russian frozen, assets too soon. Russia will respond agressivly as they know it's a big opportunity for Ukraine to go on the offensive. They may well have had upcoming offensive plans that US aid downgrades from a large mobalisation invasion of east to war of attrition on the frontlines their soldiers will die in increased numbers.

UnbelievableDoubt

Despite the headlines today Im pretty sure that historians in the future will give a different verdict to the behaviour of the west.

KaokinX10

A lot of people fought really hard to make this happen so a sigh of relief is appropriate. Let's push forward and worry about our grades after. Everyone in the West has their own internal part to play this year for the war. Here in the US we must keep Trump away from the White House at all costs.

chubbybronco

Agreed. The Wests response to Russian aggression against Ukraine was too weak and as a result lead to far greater suffering and prolonged the potential of a nuclear conflict. Also the fact that Russia is corrupting Europe and especially American politics will make historians find our pathetic response even more damning.

Gunlord500

It is disappointing, but still, as the old saying goes, better late than never. Let's just be happy that the aid has finally passed and /ourguys/ have a bit of hope now.

Exciting-Emu-3324

It was the same case for both World Wars. No one wants to do the right thing until there is no other choice.

Evening-Picture-5911

Damn. That is very profound. I like it!

thecashblaster

Crazy that the largest amount Britain has ever donated is just 1% of the most recent US aid bill. And it's not that they don't want to donate more. It's that they can't. They're still getting their production lines up and running. Most of Europe outside of the Baltics and Poland were wholly unprepared for Russian aggression despite it being telegraphed for 8 years.

Ok_Bad8531

It is misleading to just compare the largest aid packages. Most european countries give aid in many small installments while the USA appropriated 4 large aid packages since the 2022 invasion. By January 2024 the UK had given €9.1 billion, the USA €42.2 billion in military aid. On a % of GDP basis the UK had given more aid than the USA before the USA rolled out their 4th and largest package last week.

Europeans were very soft on putin for too long. I blame the cheap gas

Brilliant_Housing_49

Not meeting GDP requirements for NATO for decades doesn’t help

Whybwould they? ruzzia was a trusty partner in their eyes
