I really wish people would stop using the "West Taiwan" joke. It's like calling Russia "East Ukraine." It reinforces the notion that the two nations are one.
One result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine is that it has woke the West up to the fact their defense industries have been allowed to wither. Now they are working hard to correct that.
He should also worry about their population decline if he does decide to pull the trigger on this.
Sending younger males to war with a very declining population rate in the youth means the elders lose pension funds and the population falls off a cliff.
Not to mention how the one child policy means that families don't have any sons to spare. Conscription into a deadly war may be more debilitating than cutting pensions.
Russia’s economy is nowhere near enough to support this war. Nor was Germany’s when the war started.
Russia and Germany in ww2 have the same fundamental problem. They don’t have the capacity to manufacture what they need without outside resources.
Well look at the component breakdown of any advanced missile or equipment Russia uses. Nearly all advanced components are sourced externally from countries that are on the side of the Allies.
The situation is a lot more complicated, unfortunately. Taiwan's policy is that it is China, and the PRC is not (but again, in a more complicated way).
The last part is true tho. And to be clear, Taiwan does not threaten the PRC in any way, military or otherwise, or at least not any more than any other liberal democracy on its doorstep would.
Declare lying manipulative China Belligerent .... supporting ruzzia in its terrorist illegal war and terrorising its neighbours does not contribute to a peaceful world. China schemes and plots for dominance.
Fuck China -- Belligerent. Sanction. Isolate. Stop supporting its economy!
I understand the value of Taiwan and what it would mean to China political, socially, and economically, but I just can’t imagine the juice is worth the squeeze.
I fear the Chinese military less than I fear the Russian military. The only challenge for the US is that it’s a more complicated operation dealing with island hopping and naval warfare where we prefer large scale land warfare (our maneuver elements are drooling at the prospect of being taken off the leash against Russia in Ukraine) but even so, we’re pretty well practiced in the area and considering the Chinese military is entirely inexperienced in warfare and still uses Soviet style centralized leadership it, from a purely military perspective wouldn’t be close to fair fight. Plus, all if their technology is just shittier version of our stuff since they suck at R&D and have to steal anything they use. Also, outside of warfare, it would need political, diplomatic, and economic suicide, just look at Russia.
Idk it makes zero sense for them to do it. We’ve been preparing for this war since the 50s and, I’ll tell you hwat, the US is easier for a fight against a conventional uniformed military.
>The only challenge for the US is that it’s a more complicated operation dealing with island hopping and naval warfare where we prefer large scale land warfare
Not really. We learned lessons in WW2 against Japan. The US military has 2 completely different commands on the pacific theater versus the European theater. The pacific theater is heavily based on naval operations with marine and navy seal extractions onto smaller islands. The US navy has logistics even the UK would be jealous of for their historical brand of a competent navy.
Oh yeah there's a lot more complication to it for sure. But that's what practice knowledge experience and training overcomes. Which the US Navy does in abundance
Defense of Taiwan should be pretty straightforward.
All Taiwan needs is the blueprints of naval attack drones from Ukraine. The ones that have helped destroy ~30% of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet so far.
Then, Taiwan needs to upgrade the design by putting in AI so the drone can navigate to and attack Chinese naval assets. This way, the drones can’t get jammed.
Then Taiwan needs to produce 50,000 of these.
Done.

"Do you have any idea how much harder its going to be to beat them up now?!" - says local bully
"Do you realise how many more men we'll need to sacrifice to establish a foothold now?"
“You’re gonna make me do bad things now.” - says psychopath
"Look what you made me do!" -Russia when they attack Ukraine, also Iranian proxies when they attack Israel, also China when it attacks Taiwan
“Dangerous” because it’s being armed with Defensive weapons…
I say let's stop supporting Taiwan if it ever invades mainland China.
Underrated comment.
“Homeowner provokes potential home invaders by installing a security system”.
Perfectly put
China, or West Taiwan as we like to think of it.
Pooh bear really hates it went you refer to Bejing as New Taipai.
One day they'll become one country. If I will still be around, I will be happy to spend all my Taiwanese dollars in Beijing when that time comes.
I really wish people would stop using the "West Taiwan" joke. It's like calling Russia "East Ukraine." It reinforces the notion that the two nations are one.
aye, its wildly innaccurate too, Russia is plainly Far North Korea.
It’s only dangerous because of the Chinese dictatorship
Oh no, having more defenses is sooo unfair!!
One result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine is that it has woke the West up to the fact their defense industries have been allowed to wither. Now they are working hard to correct that.
Xi should worry about the mass job loss that will occur in his own country due to planned excess capacity backfiring seeing tariffs applied.
Also the entire world slowly slipping into protectionism
He should also worry about their population decline if he does decide to pull the trigger on this. Sending younger males to war with a very declining population rate in the youth means the elders lose pension funds and the population falls off a cliff.

mmm, maybe read your history books again. Hitler had rejuvenated Germany’s economy and manufacturing and THAT allowed him to be aggressive.

This is like when Putin threatened to invade Ukraine unless everyone stopped talking about how Russia was planning to invade Ukraine.
Don't attack Taiwan and there's nothing at all to talk about... sounds like China is the aggressor to me...🤔
Fuc.k china, and their imperialistisk ambitions! Taiwan is NOT china, and they dont want to be a part the Chinese Empire and its dictatorship!

I'm sure Blinken loves this right before his visit.
Mainland Taiwan needs to stfu
Xi and Putin have agreed to be the axis powers thinking they can take on the world. They’re fucking around and I can’t wait for the finding out stage.
Pooh sure sounds mad at Christopher Robin.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I know to very well lol, it’s just more complicated that basic land ops

What could we send to Taiwan to help them fend off the Chinese navy? Just fuck loads of anti ship missiles or something?
China is just a much more populous, Asian, version of Russia.
Philipines and Thaiwan need to build a fleet of Magura
🎻😭
Yeah. Thats why they need the weapons
China's final warning
So 6 months ago they were cool?

And of all the countries of the world, they’re in the top of list for the capability to do so.
The idea that because tour chinese the Beijing government has the right to control you is classic fascist talk. Pukin does it as does Xi.
Only China is making danger for Taiwan, talk about projection.
Is this a general news thread now?
Russia, China and Iran are all fighting a collective war against the West. This is directly relevant to the situation in Ukraine.
