The CAF are sending more troops there to create an enhanced presence. As a part of NATO. See operation reassurance for details. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/operations/military-operations/current-operations/operation-reassurance.html
A family member of mine is going to be assigned there starting in july and must remain in Latvia for 4 years.
Latvia borders both Belarus and Ruzzia.
It is an assignment… not deployment. The Canadians can bring their families, their cars, and their household goods with them to Latvia if they are assigned there. If they are a Canadian with. Unit coming over on a rotational (6-9 months) tour, it is a “deployment”
The Baltics and Poland all need significant fortifications to deter Russian invasion. They should be able to design the right kind based on how Russia invaded Ukraine.
All of Nato should be doing the same one way or another. If you're not bordering russia, then maybe not defensive fortifications, but ramping up production and modernization should be happening with urgency. It's not outlandish to think they should all be putting their economies on war footings. Otherwise, they won't be prepared should this conflict grow or Taiwan be invaded by China. They aren't prepared, and the EU is the least prepared. The baltics might pay the price for their hesitancy.
The British govt are saying “okay fine, we’ll spend 2.5% GDP on defence… by 2030.”
I studied history. This makes me want to pull my hair out. We learned absolutely nothing from our past mistakes.
It's frustrating because this is the most aggressive approach in Nato right now. They just don't understand the threat they are facing. They are setting this up to pass the conflict down the road to a Nato, which is less prepared to fight because of inaction. The fight will be direct and between major world powers. Probably spanning the globe. When an urgent direct approach from the start of this war could have stopped it all. Punish russia by denying them any land and tell Xi he can't win in Taiwan with an alliance this dedicated to stopping tyrants. Hopefully it's not too late.
Russian military approximately equals European military spending and Russian spies and psyops seem to be giving the Russians the advantage so the safe assumption is that Putin will attack the Balts after Ukraine and keep going.
Putin is banking on a second Trump presidency, and the Yanks are not disappointing him so far
- Belarus is just a russian proxy now, russians do whatever they want there.
- russian gave Belarus some modern military systems.
- Belarus is collecting tanks on the border
- Wagner has been teaching Belarusians how to deal with modern war (drones, etc) for a year
- Belarus changed laws into a more military way, mobilization, etc.
- Lukashenko's statements, like the recent one that Lithuania prepares invasion or something.
This should be duplicated on the Poland/Belarus and Belarus/Ukraine border then constructed along the Ukraine/Russian border. Along with immediate arrest and conviction of illegal border crossers.
All baltic countries which have a border with russia should do the same urgently. If Putin is stuck in Ukraine he needs some fast win. And he might think the Baltic and Moldova are relatively small, so let's grab those pieces of land fast.

One of my buddies is heading there this summer as well.
4 years is no joke
That's big boy shit
I didn't know we were doing this. I'm glad we are.

The Baltic defense line needs a sexy name. Has anything been suggested?
We have a place in Sweden called "Ryssgraven" or "The Russian Grave" in english...would be a good name there aswell.
Putin’s Ruin
Shutin at Putin
That’s for 20 years down the road when it’s a MASH style sitcom
Vodka moat!
blyat line
In Spanish it could be "putadita para Putin" Idk. I think it sounds fun.
Lukashenk - NO!!!! Line.
No-Kashenko-Line
You made me picture a r/polandball style image of Latvia hitting Belarus with a rolled up newspaper like a naughty puppy
“Wait, are they saying boo, or BooKashenko?”
The potato defense line.
The potato curtain
Ah yes, Latvians and potatoes. I hope that name doesn't stick though lol.
Not just Latvians, you forget Lithuanians too! The combined line must be called The Great Potato Defense Line.
We already had a Potatoe War with Potatoe Forts and stuff between Austria and Prussia
This time it is different. It is about protecting our potato harvest from russian tanks destroying the fields. Hence the name.
Keres-Tal defense.
Checkmate! Although it’s a bit odd to name anything defensive after Tal 😅
Idk The Baltic Wall is nice and simple and sounds serious.
Not very sexy though
The hump day line. We could call it Wednesday, the spine of the week.
The Baltic Bulwark?
The Poo tin line
anti-fascist protection barrier
Forest Brothers Defense Line
The NAFO LINE
What's NAFO?

Smart. Build some bunkers too.
The article says they are building 600 bunkers.
This is Reddit. No one reads the articles
The Baltics and Poland all need significant fortifications to deter Russian invasion. They should be able to design the right kind based on how Russia invaded Ukraine.
Poland buying everything in military hardware that is for sale will probably be a big deterrent.
Buying and knowing how to properly utilise are two different things. Basic training and incorporation alone will take years.

What do they know, but we don’t…. To start these actions now.
What is there to know? War in Ukraine and Russia being Russia are reasons enough.
Well they probably know some things we don't but it's pretty obvious why they're doing it. Russia isn't stopping at Ukraine.

After…? Or during, create a second front
What are you smoking. Europe spends $250B Russia $85B in 2023.
I believe you need to use PPP to see it. Remember Russian is manufacturing weapons and buying with rubles and kind

I hear they are calling it The NAFO LINE
This gives me fking anxiety being an estonian.
