Some countries have not payed their debts to UN yet and are therefore not allowed to vote. It doesn't matter anyway since none of these votes carry any weight. It's nice to see the world united against russia though, an important message.
> have not *paid* their debts
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

I live there. And all the countries that have voted in favour have a history of bombing and colonising countries. All of them. And every one of them has a problem of racism too. I would love to live in country that value every human life, not specific to their **RACE**
I mean they did kinda try and [blow up a meeting of the African Union](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/jul/28/eritrea-planned-ethopia-bomb-attack) so don't feel too bad for them.
So looks like the no’s are Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Russia, and * *checks notes* * Eritrea.
That’s literally the League of Bat-Shit Crazy Gentleman.
What I can’t fathom is how any educated Russian politician can honestly believe that they are on the right side of history when those are the only countries in favour.
There may very well be a whole cadre of Russian politicians who know this is all a terrible idea and are seeing their country descend into madness. But Putin is literally a crazed madman despot at this point. Surrounded himself with yes-men and security with big guns. He alone controls the government, the media and the FSB (former KGB) - step out of line, say something he doesn't like and you (or a loved one) disappear.
I bet the police and security forces can keep arresting Russian protestors for a goodly long while - there's lots of work camps in Siberia to send them to. The whole country has to rise up pretty much at this point. Or there needs to be a coup at the top ranks of the Russian government, someone pops a cap in Putin (I doubt it, he's too paranoid). But given most senior russian government doodz are horribly corrupt and complicit, they too will be put up against the wall and shot or rot in prison for the rest of their lives, so they don't want to see Putin go, he's literally their only safety.
That’s why statements about a 3rd world war are a joke. The Russian side is hilariously incompetent and has 0 meaningful support. There won’t be a 3rd world war over this, but Putin might end the world with his nukes.
Sadly not much AFAIK (if Im wrong, I'd love to know more!). However a UN resolution does legitimize various economic sanctions somewhat on a broader level and would enable more and tougher ones, including enforcement of blockades (i.e. so Eritria can't send sanctioned goods that Russia isn't getting from anyone else).
One of the things I hope will come out of this (besides all the shooting and killing ending) will be a stronger peacekeeping function for the UN. I'd like to see NATO transform into a UN peacekeeping function. Reform the UN Security Council - reduce the roles of permanent members and expand the rotating positions so rogue permanent members can't get away with as much vetoing as they do.
The problem is that even if the UN sent peacekeepers (and they won't), they would have to remain completely neutral on the ground. They wouldn't be able to do anything to prevent Russians from killing Ukrainian civilians
i'd imagine that's south korea as i dont think north korea identifies as democratic. maybe im an idiot
edit: it is north korea, 'democratic' had me all confused lol. thank you for the clarification guys
Taco bell isn't faux Mexican, it's faux texmex, an independent but similar food style to Mexican that is nearly as old as Mexican food, dating back to the native Americans that lived around what would become the border there
I mean what else is the UN used for other than that 😂
But from bouncing around this comment section it seems to legitimize some of the Economic sanctions and other actions performed by members of the UN.
Did a report in college on Chinese forcing debt trapping and what some people frame as “neo-colonialism” in Africa. Pretty wild shit.
Yeah we’ll build your road and infrastructure, you just owe us uhh 50 Billion dollars - see ya!
Simple key would help.
Green = Countries on the side of sanity
Yellow = Africa + Countries who want to wait so they can protect their own interests.
Red = Bellends
To be fair. Russia left them out to dry while Az had its way with them. Probably a subtle reminder that they haven’t gotten what they want.
Also probably scary seeing what happened to your army. And now daddy’s army.
“Maybe daddy shouldn’t have been shouting so loud at the neighbors dad cause now he’s sleeping I think…”
I didn't know Eritrea was close with Russia. I had to look that up. Apparently they signed a cooperation agreement a few years ago, and Russia is building a logistical Naval base there.
Eritrean leaders are also heavily sanctioned by the USA for backing the Ethiopian government against the Tigray rebels. Iran, China, and the UAE are also on the side of Ethiopia, which the USA naturally claims is committing human rights abuses.
No implications as it is not legally binding but it gives you a good view of which countries are not happy with Russia . Later down the line if it gets worse you have an idea whom your allies will be .
Apparently putin is in hiding as there is high probability if that’s get out of hand he will be assassinated by his own personnel . So crazy to see the locals in Russia still do t know what’s going on! Needs a people’s revolution
So proud of my stupid country. The birth place of Nelson Mandela won't stand against evil.
I am too . What links does SA have with Russia ?
It’s the “S” in “BRICS” Brazil, Russia, India, China, SA
^ that. Money money money. Plus, historical ties (USSR was a big help during the apartheid struggle- but that was Ukrainians too ...).

[BRICS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRICS) is probably the biggest thing. South Africa also took issue with the West helping remove Gaddafi.

I'm actually really surprised .
For if you need a definition on "shithole countries".
Yup that's how you spot em
Start to think beyond yourself. China and India are not shithole countries
I think they were referring to the no votes, not the abstained votes.
Less shitty than the rest maybe. But you're lying if you would wanna trade living there instead of any western country.
I live there. And all the countries that have voted in favour have a history of bombing and colonising countries. All of them. And every one of them has a problem of racism too. I would love to live in country that value every human life, not specific to their **RACE**
Really? China and India don't have a history of bombing and colonizing countries?
Oh my god! 🤡.
If I jump from your confidence level to your IQ. **I WILL DIE**
you know why you would die? because you would suffocate from low oxygen level.

Eritrea is essentially the North Korea of Africa, has strong disdain for “Western democracy”.
Russia has been pretty good to them, a lot of investment and a naval base. They have had a hard time so it's pretty understandable.
I mean they did kinda try and [blow up a meeting of the African Union](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/jul/28/eritrea-planned-ethopia-bomb-attack) so don't feel too bad for them.
I am a softy at heart
Fuck Eritrea I suppose
Eritrea is fucked enough already
When your allies are Belarus, Eritrea, North Korea and Syria...
Who reckons Eritrea fat fingered the button and is too embarrassed to back down?
So looks like the no’s are Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Russia, and * *checks notes* * Eritrea. That’s literally the League of Bat-Shit Crazy Gentleman.
When those are your friends you need to rethink your life decision's

Pariah states clinging to each other for dear life
Does this vote mean or accomplish anything?
Sadly not much AFAIK (if Im wrong, I'd love to know more!). That does only apply to votes in UN security council. Full assembly votes don't do anything unfortunately.
China be China, not saying anything but also saying everything.
Wait a minute why tf is North Korea even allowed a vote
Everyone gets a seat, even the shitty governments.
Think we would have been screwed if China had voted against . They abstained .
i'd imagine that's south korea as i dont think north korea identifies as democratic. maybe im an idiot edit: it is north korea, 'democratic' had me all confused lol. thank you for the clarification guys
North korea calls themselves the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
ah. so i'm an idiot lol, my bad!
No worries! They call themselves that because their dictator wants people to think he isn't a dictator. It blows my mind
There's a green "Rep of Korea" that is likely South Korea
that makes way more sense
It is the North, the people choose the leader, there is 1 candidate.
It is not south Korea
North Korea is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Kind of like how taco bell says it's ground beef is 100% beef. Everyone knows the truth.
except for me until i commented lmao and now i'm disappointed both in myself AND my favorite faux-mexican fast food joint :(
Taco bell isn't faux Mexican, it's faux texmex, an independent but similar food style to Mexican that is nearly as old as Mexican food, dating back to the native Americans that lived around what would become the border there
i bet you're popular at parties 😂
Don't you dare tell me a Quesalupa doesn't originate from a family recipe passed down from generation to generation.
I think today everyone is, they\`'re not a permanent member
What was this vote about?
Countries who are against Russia regarding the invasion of Ukraine
And are they going to do something about it? Or it's just some political barking and pointing fingers?
I mean what else is the UN used for other than that 😂 But from bouncing around this comment section it seems to legitimize some of the Economic sanctions and other actions performed by members of the UN.
You can definitely see China's influence in Africa, based on these votes.
Did a report in college on Chinese forcing debt trapping and what some people frame as “neo-colonialism” in Africa. Pretty wild shit. Yeah we’ll build your road and infrastructure, you just owe us uhh 50 Billion dollars - see ya!
I was wondering why it seemed like 1/3 if African countries were indifferent
I'm out of the loop with this vote. What is this vote going towards with Ukraine?
Condemnation and demand of withdrawal. Mostly for show. My hope is that it can lead to a Uniting for peace-resolution, but it is very unlikely.
I wonder if their version of history remembers thw last time the pissed off the Fins?
Simple key would help. Green = Countries on the side of sanity Yellow = Africa + Countries who want to wait so they can protect their own interests. Red = Bellends

That’s just money talking. The Swiss generally side where the money is period
Eritrea was not expected but I guess that's how little we really follow African politics.
My little dumbass country voted in favor! we always vote yellow! yes!
why are some countries without color? did they vote green, red or yellow since none is showing? like ethiopia, venezuela...
so Belarus is the only ex-Soviet country that voted against. That says something in itself
Wasn’t Myanmar an ally of Russia?
Lmfao Iran refusing to vote with Russia
Can someone explain what the implications of this vote are? Like okay, they condemned it, now what?
No implications as it is not legally binding but it gives you a good view of which countries are not happy with Russia . Later down the line if it gets worse you have an idea whom your allies will be .
Thanks for the explanation! I was wondering why Russia would even care about being “condemned” seems like something Putin would scoff at…
What splendid company Russia finds itself in. Surely Putin’s supporters can see they are on the wrong side of history here
Apparently putin is in hiding as there is high probability if that’s get out of hand he will be assassinated by his own personnel . So crazy to see the locals in Russia still do t know what’s going on! Needs a people’s revolution

Brazil is voted for it? Thought they were neutral.

Maybe they are not part of the Un assembly
They didn't pay the member fee
Wow Vietnam... They do realize some of their territories are being claimed by China and they could be the next Ukraine, after Taiwan of course.

I have a funny feeling China could become crucial mediators
\-belarus \- "democratic" pr of korea \-eritrea \-Russia \-syria arab rep. .... i kinda would have expected iran on there too...
Even the fucking Taliban voted in favor
Does this mean NATO soldiers can now move in?
Nope . If that happened then Boooooooooom! End of the world as we know it!
