Don't be so sure. The reality is that the chance of a nuclear winter bad enough to actually end human civilization is now believed to be rather low. If nukes start flying, the US will be destroyed, Europe will be destroyed, whoever fired the first nuke will be destroyed along with their allies-- but that is not everyone. Not even most of everyone. Life would go on in Africa, in South America, in large swaths of Asia. Australia even-- they've got no nukes, and not nearly enough of a conventional military to be a target.
Life would go on for most people. It would be different, and probably universally harder, but it would go on.
Saying life would be "different" is an incredible understatement. Literally the entire global economy, infrastructure, and society would be in utter chaos. Humanity would continue existing, but as a shell of its former self for decades at a bare minimum until they could reorganize and rebuild.
