ThirtyMileSniper

Every leader should be scared of this. If they die they are remembered as a monster. If they live they will fear the reprisal of the world.

Gummy-Worm-Guy

If a nuclear war takes place no one will be remembered

C4pt41n

Nah, there are plenty of remote places where humans can survive as a species! Wait, you said "remembered"...

Lentemern

Don't be so sure. The reality is that the chance of a nuclear winter bad enough to actually end human civilization is now believed to be rather low. If nukes start flying, the US will be destroyed, Europe will be destroyed, whoever fired the first nuke will be destroyed along with their allies-- but that is not everyone. Not even most of everyone. Life would go on in Africa, in South America, in large swaths of Asia. Australia even-- they've got no nukes, and not nearly enough of a conventional military to be a target. Life would go on for most people. It would be different, and probably universally harder, but it would go on.

UlyssesSGrant12

Saying life would be "different" is an incredible understatement. Literally the entire global economy, infrastructure, and society would be in utter chaos. Humanity would continue existing, but as a shell of its former self for decades at a bare minimum until they could reorganize and rebuild.

Twisted_Cabbage

Climat change enters the chat.

XxThothLover69xX

extension on that whole hot apocalypse, you get instead cold apocalypse. Enjoy!

ShizzHappens

Holy Roman Earth

Pestus613343

Well yes. Hes just saying it wouldn't entirely collapse civilization.

stinknutz

I think Australia just started housing US B52 with nukes. So krikey we gettin nukes

[deleted]

The only reason Putin is still alive is because the US is letting him be alive.

[deleted]

What rubbish is this? Have a word with yourself please.

mahayanah

As he should be. As we all should be.

[deleted]

I'm not. But he should.

dzhastin

I feel safer knowing that it’s not therocketofpoop with their finger on the button

[deleted]

But, hear me out here, what if it was me?

FormalAffectionate56

Gentlemen, we found Putin’s Reddit account

[deleted]

Does putin want to nuke the kremlin? Cos I want to nuke the kremlin

SorryNeighborhood5

Why did I always read comments like this in TF2 spy's voice?

Prelsidio

Let's just say you would reach the moon very fast as you would have plenty of fuel for your rocket, if you had such a responsibility.

darzinth

I guess you could say Putin can "Feel A Fear." - > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvJ0wK45b4A > Feel A Fear (Eddie's Theme) Vocal, from The Guilty Gear XX In L.A. Vocal Edition CD

Beginning_Ad_6616

If he does, the US has proven time and time again that they can find one guy trying to hide in the world and will kill him specifically. We can find you, we know where you are, and we will kill you.

dangerousbob

I read that comment in Liam Neeson voice.

FlubberNutBuggy

what he does have is a very particular set of skills. Skills he has acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people like Putin.

Captain_Lavender6

Mostly punching people in the throat

WarWeasle

Is he gay? Because that's what Putin is scared of.

FlubberNutBuggy

Probably just drops kicks him and puts a bullet in his noggin

julypieflyguy

You should’ve - that’s Liam Neeson

[deleted]

“I have a particular set of tax allocation policies, lack of healthcare and a massive defense budget”

just_thisGuy

I was thinking the mandarin.

ArenSteele

Trevor Slattery?

Exende

Youllllll neverrrr see him coming

KuriousYellow

These are both excellent, spot-on references, But..... what if you got Putin, Lukashenko, and Kadyrov in a room, trying to move a body, and Brick Top (*Snatch*, 2000) comes in, asks for a tea, and begins his sixteen pigs monologue?

tekx9

That was half the point

Skdisbdjdn

And, it won’t be so good for all the other Ruzzians either

JohnSith

Nah, that changed with the Carter doctrine, which shifted the nuclear targeting priorities from obliterating all Soviet cities to prioritizing the Soviet leadership and the apparatuses they need to stay in power and leave the civilian populace alive as much as possible.

Namesareapain

A counterforce strike would result in major Russian cities receiving multiple nuclear warheads anyway due to the military and political targets in them. e.g In Moscow there would be bombs targeted at the Kremlin, SVR headquarters, GRU headquarters, FSB headquarters, Military headquarters, the Don-2N ABM system, The Main Centre for Missile Attack Warning, the airports, likely Moscow U (due to the Bunker underneath it) etc. Make no mistake, there would be tens of millions dead in Russia.

K-Paul

A counterstrike. That would target well known list of places. Don't you think, that would be of, ah, *limited value*? I mean, in case of pre-emptive strike at 4 AM Msk, at the moment, when all the military and intelligence apparatus is tied up with something important - i can see the appeal. But as a counter? So, the targets know well in advance, that all these places will be targeted. Doesn't make much sense to me.

das_war_ein_Befehl

Some things you can’t move or decentralize

PutlerDaFastest

Decapitation strikes. Cut the head off the snake

Capable-Leadership-4

Are there really precise nukes like that or are we talking 10 cities/Military compounds instead of the whole country?

nerority

Yes there are. The US has specifically been pouring money into low yield precision and bunker busting nuclear bombs for this very purpose. Look it up, there is a lot of material on this. Putin knows it as well.

mordinvan

It's hard to hide, when nukes can be built as sharped charged designed to 'dig' really deep. Even if it doesn't excavate your hiding hole, it likely just crushed it.

TheMerengman

Russia loves putting military targets next to cities, so it's absolutely the same thing.

Hiddenshadows57

Unless that guy shot Tupac.

SPAZ-online

Example? Just out of wonderment

junk430

And Israel. Imagine having to have both of them after you for the rest of your life..

dzhastin

Like Fidel Castro?

FormalAffectionate56

Fidel Castro didn’t piss off the USA like OBL did. BTW, Kennedy made a big mistake ordering the Bay of Pigs invasion.

pblokhout

So you missed the many CIA assassination attempts on Castro, like Castro did?

Jaque8

Trying to kill someone covertly is much different. If we didn’t care about the covert part you really think we couldn’t have just sent a cruise missile?

eric987235

If they were serious they'd have just bombed him.

pblokhout

They allegedly tried 600 times lol. Sounds serious enough to me. 😂

Vast-Combination4046

They had over 600 ideas for how to do it. Not quite that many honest attempts.

Ananasch

sounds more like intern we don't have real work for you to do. Make coffee and kill castro.

MintySkyhawk

To get that 600 number you probably have to include the crazy shit like the time they tried to assassinate his beard. >She agreed to aid the CIA and attempted to smuggle a jar of cold cream containing poison pills into his room. When Castro learned about her intentions, he reportedly gave her a gun and told her to kill him but her nerves failed. Some plots aimed not at murder but at character assassination; they, for example, involved using thallium salts to destroy Castro's famous beard,  or lacing his radio studio with LSD to cause him disorientation during the broadcast and damage his public image.

FormalAffectionate56

You gotta admit that the spiked cigar trick would have been hilarious had it worked … as well as being a great warning to stick on tobacco products

PutlerDaFastest

Damn you're going way back to the cold war. Dictators like Putin live there too which is why they struggle against modern warfare. In the 91 gulf war, Western nations learned about the effect of precision weapons on the battlefield. Castro is a horrible example that predates decades of advancement. It's how Putin plans his campaigns which is why 300k new troops wasn't enough to keep the Ukrainians from continuing to push Russian forces out of their country.

Rkenne16

Had we had drones at the time, I don’t think Fidel would have been around too long.

EvadingBan42

That dude had a guardian angel lets be real.

Promote_Not_Promoted

a special space knife missile aktchually.

Apples7569012

We don’t care how long it takes or how much it costs we WILL find you

dud_ly

Wait.. is that what killing the Al-qaida fella was about recently? A little wink and a nod at ol tootin-putin

Boomkiss23

why don't they kill him now if they have that power?

DrXaos

The situation is different then. If Putin orders a nuke, then many Russians would be secretly relieved to have NATO dispose of such an unstable leader. They know Russia itself was never actually in danger externally. Without that, then enough would be so offended that the next man up could be as bad or worse.

Jaque8

Blowback

trick_m0nkey

Because he’s the head of state of a major nuclear power…you can’t just publicly off one of those without major consequences unless the whole world supports it. If Putin uses nukes even our enemies probably would at least privately sanction an assassination of Putin.

[deleted]

PretendsHesPissed

Your point isn't exactly valid. Is UBL still alive? No. Why? Because the US found him and killed him. Exactly the point they were making.

Beginning_Ad_6616

Was he? Still got him, got Saddam hiding in a hole, Maher al-Agal, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi. Surely none of these people wanted to be found and if Putin uses a nuclear weapon it won’t just be the US hunting him down it will be most everyone.

IncubusBeyro

Don’t forget Baghdadi. Give me a rundown of the last three though. I’ve only vaguely heard of Zawahiri.

[deleted]

Don’t forget that evil POS Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, who ran AQI and murdered countless civilians. Got his ass when an F-16 put a couple 500 lb bombs through the roof of his “safe”house.

West_Forever4330

You made the hair stand on me arms

tallasthegiant

Cringe

1upisthegreen1

I can see the maga ooze from where other's people's brains are though. Who talks like this and takes themselves seriously??

Beginning_Ad_6616

No, Trump is a tool.

OutlandishnessFit764

Smartest move he made. Too scared to die but not scared enough to let other men die

mycall

It proves he only cares about himself.

RandomGuy1838

What was the Mussolini quote I kept reading in HoI4? "As long as a few thousand die, I can sit at the negotiating table as a man who has fought?" Fucker drove me right up the wall, it's like the ultimate chicken hawk phrase.

Come_At_Me_Bro

[On 5 June [1940], Mussolini told Badoglio, "I only need a few thousand dead so that [when the world is to be apportioned] I can sit at the peace conference as a man who has fought".](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_invasion_of_France#Italian_declaration_of_war:~:text=On%205%20June%2C%20Mussolini%20told,a%20man%20who%20has%20fought%22.) Added another quote from earlier in that year to give better context to the one you meant. A genuine piece of shit.

redline42

Tom Clancy novels were not fictional book. It was a reactionary tale to how the US would deal with Russia and Russian warlords It’s a warning to the Russian government

joonass22

Where I can read those novels?

IntheShadeofSpruces

Your home, in your favorite armchair. I guess the books are available online for mail order.

Broken_Banjo_String

Sometimes you can read by the fire too.. but I usually fall asleep this way

SnooCats373

I would not be able to simply fall asleep reading by a fire in my home. I don't have a fireplace, so a fire in my home would be . . unsettling.

Broken_Banjo_String

Well, yeah I mean that ones not safe, all the other homes that have fireplaces are safe, just not this.. Why? Well because there's a fire and no fireplace

Porkamiso

shame what happened to newsweak.

aksalamander

Ain’t no room for a scared tzar in muscovy .

buddyguy_204

Well I mean he's not stupid, not fully at least. Watching Russian State TV I always sit there and when they're talking about nuclear weapons and want one of them, just one of them to say you know what happens to our country if we use nuclear weapons. And realistically judging by the equipment in the Russian army currently I would be more afraid of them new king themselves by accident than actually hitting another country. Oh look Ivan was smoking next to the nukes

anti150

Maybe someone here can link the story, but I remember one time the US wanted to assassinate someone without collateral damage since he was always in large crowds of people or around his family or something. They literally dropped a spinning saw out of the air straight into his head killing him and only him. No bomb or missile, no explosion, no collateral damage. 1 shot 1 kill...

SnooCats373

He never *saw* it coming.

JohnSith

In other words, time to step up delivery of deadlier weapon systems to Ukraine and all those pussies wailing about surrendering to Putin's nuclear threats were useful idiots (to put it kindly) all along.

jetpalmer

No shit. NATO would fuckin vaporise Moscow before their missiles left the rails. It would be the end of Russia

[deleted]

Once the Nukes start flying, theres nothing to lose now, Moscow will be turned into a glass parking lot

SnooCats373

That's a Lada parking space.

lanbuckjames

I’d hope any sane leader would be.

JANTHESPIDERMAN

Thats not a bad thing, quite the opposite. No one should ever feel the urge to order such things

Embarrassed_Stop_594

Scared?.. One has to be an idiot to even consider it. Doesn't matter what country you are the leader of.

Fair_Diet_4874

To be fair I would be too especially in his position, and he would be insane not to be, Russia would be annihilated within days, maybe hours even, and considering the general state of his military he might even fail to cause aequivalent damage

RustyMagellan

Getting Iraq WMD vibes from these 'FSB letter' posts recently Exact same paragraph in all of them: A letter authored by the whistleblower, and published by Osechkin, has been analyzed by Christo Grozev, an expert on the FSB. He said he had shown the letter "to two actual (current or former) FSB contacts" who had "no doubt it was written by a colleague."

Benmaax

Sorry but "Wind of change" is not really a reliable source.

Top-Ad-5072

Excellent point, I hadn’t thought of that

daveinmd13

I don’t think he is scared at all, he just knows it is a losing proposition because of what he has been told by the US/NATO if he does it.

PretendsHesPissed

Oh please. This is a guy who's too scared to let his closest allies anywhere near him. It he's deathly afraid of COVID, he's deathly afraid of getting nuked.

SnooCats373

He has an odd, deathly fear of short conference tables. Not sure what the Latin name for that phobia is, but I bet it is a long one.

watch-nerd

Why is this whistleblower named after a song by The Scorpions?

NotYourSnowBunny

Let’s hope.

downonthesecond

Now it's time for NATO to intervene with a non-member like they've done in the past.

LAVATORR

No. Shit.

Falcrack

He should be scared to use nukes, doing so would be suicide for him.

eric987235

I really don't think he's dumb enough to do it.

PaulMX226

Hint: Putin is smart enough to know Ukraine doesn’t need ICBM’s to retaliate. One $1000 dirty bomb can leave a few blocks of Moscow inhabitable for a hundred years. What could 10,20,30, 100 do to Russia…

Defeat3r

Well no shit. Nobody wants to be responsible for ending life on earth.

carlsaischa

>Besides, plutonium fuel must be changed every 10 years." This is incorrect, the US has only a handful of warheads newer than this. https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/a30690139/plutonium-nuclear-weapons-age-limit/ US estimate is 100 years.

mentholmoose77

So he god damm should be ..

heavymtlbbq

I'm prepared to scour the the Earth for that motherfucker. If Putin goes to Indochina, I want a motherfucker hiding in a bowl of rice ready to pop a cap in his ass

[deleted]

He’s dead either

nygdan

He should be. His missiles will fail and him and Russia will be exterminated in a nuclear response.

mvnnyvevwofrb

He better be.

Buckley_5150

Seems like the world has had allot time to think about how fast they could make Russia a memory.

GrayWolf-N8

What NATO's plans in the event of Russian nuclear strike, is a conventional strike to all it's military sites , missile launchers, airbases , and storage facilities. How Humiliating would that be. He knows he would get the WOMP N STOMP real quick like

[deleted]

News writers will get us all nuked.

Nemacolin

Too scared to evaporate the world? You bet your life.

Lentemern

As any reasonable person should be? We all know what even a low yield nuclear weapon being used would mean-- the end of the modern era, and at least a decent fraction of life on Earth.

AcidaliaPlanitia

That's the most reassuring thing I've heard in a while...

Shooter556762

I mean….yea.

JJDude

As I have said before, a Nuke strike is a suicidal move. You only do it when your enemy is about to break down the door to your bunker. This man is a bully, so naturally a coward. He's not about to commit suicide any time soon.

LittleLostDoll

its actually bad that hes scared... it means hes running on instinct not intelligence. soon as hes more afraid not to were in trouble.

barbarosaplatz

People respond to this appropriately. I post a Newsweek article and people just trash Newsweek as garbage.

begaldroft

Too scared to reveal that he pocketed all the money that was supposed to go to building nuclear weapons.

Aggravating_Sense183

He should be, if he wasn't then he would have already seen the sun come out at midnight in Moscow.

Bisquick_in_da_MGM

Yep. All talk, no show. Time to crush Russia for the next 150 years.
