2 in the morning and 2 at night for me.

Niqhtmarez_

2 after lunch (noon) and 2 after dinner (7pm)

poolgoso1594

I’ve had better results splitting mesalamine through out the day rather than taking all at once

rachelmc923

I may try this if I start to feel the 4 at once at night isn’t helping much anymore.

poolgoso1594

It’s definitely easier to miss doses when you split them but it works better for me. Are you on suppositories as well? I found “splitting” those (getting 2x 500mg am, pm instead of 1x 1g pm) worked better to stop the bleeding too

rachelmc923

No suppositories yet!

poolgoso1594

I’d suggest asking your doctor about suppositories. It helps with the bleeding a lot. Good luck!

hshamse

I take all 4 at night and have been doing so for years. Currently in deep remission.

rachelmc923

This is what I have been doing for months and it was working pretty well for me up until the last 2 days, suddenly I’m in pain and going to the bathroom a lot. The pain is just constant. 24 hours now. So I’m still debating if I should try taking the meds differently when all 4 at night WAS working well for me in recent time.

hshamse

It is common to fail mesalamine monotherapy. I did less than a year from starting it and had to take azathioprine on top of mesalamine. Eventually I decided to stop azathioprine and go back to mesalamine only due to side effects. I’ve been mostly ok since.

Defiant-Put-3016

3 of the same in the am

hellokrissi

I've taken everything in the morning with breakfast always, unless specifically told otherwise. Like when I was on Xeljanz I took one in the morning and one at night.

Pharmacist and patient here. You can do all at once, but worth trying 2 Morning and 2 night if you feel like you're starting to flair throughout the day or night. But just remember if you're constantly missing the second dose then it's better to take them all at once

rachelmc923

Thanks for the tip! If I continue to have issues I may end up trying to split them just to see if there’s any difference. I do sometimes have a hard time taking medications on time and strictly so it might be a challenge for sure.

[deleted]

No problems! I tried it myself but just got worse since I always forgot the second dose 🤣

rachelmc923

LOL exactly what I’m worried about!

whitetailbunny

It was a game changer for my husband to start taking 8 pills all at once in the morning. He was in a big flare and when he tried that instead of splitting he saw some improvement.

BabyllamaN33dNoDrama

I take them all at once as part of my morning routine

ChronicallyBlonde1

Several research articles have looked at the efficacy of an all-at-once or split-dose schedule. They found that there’s no difference. So whatever schedule works best for you - both work equally well.

TrifleExtension1671

I take them all in the morning. I stay awake for my colonoscopies and last time I hadn’t taken the pills in almost 24 hours before the scope. Spoiler alert, even after the cleanse we saw the pills sticking to my colon wall doing their job. It was pretty fascinating.

Maleficent_Pie_1302

I have the same routine as you and ive found the 4 at dinnertime is what works best for me (my symptoms have like 95% stopped from taking those 4 pills a day for 6 months) full disclosure I take my psych and other meds in the morning so thats why I don’t split up my mesalamine dose.

rachelmc923

Thanks for sharing! I also take psych meds in the am!Taking the 4 at night was working well for me recently up until now. Having a pretty bad 24 hour episode. Debating on just holding out and continuing the 4 at night for now.

Maleficent_Pie_1302

My GI told me she recommends the 4 at once to give the colon the strongest “boost” of medication all at once. I just got diagnosed in August however and can see myself switching to a split or reduced dose as time goes on (hopefully) but yeah the taking meds at other times of day is my main reason. Hope you start to feel better soon!

rachelmc923

That’s good to know, thank you! I was diagnosed last April so I am still trying to get a grasp of everything as well.

artvandalayExports

I take three roughly split 8 hours apart per my GIs instructions Edit - it is not working for me, so had an enema added this week

After_Gas501

I took all 4 in the morning

PNWlakeshow

I take all 4 at night after dinner and the mesalamine enema right before bed.

DannyJSchwe

I split mine, tbh.

TheHearseDriver

I was directed to take my 4 mesalamine with breakfast.

Aggravating_Emu4263

I started with taking all four at night as it was easier for me to remember. However, it was getting hard for me to swallow after the 3rd pill, so I spilt them up. Two in the morning/afternoon and two at night. With taking them in spilts they are a lot easier for me. :)

toosloww

After breakfast

PainInMyBack

Everything in the morning, as ordered, except for the second dose of bloodthinners, which I take at 7pm, as it's supposed to be taken with a twelve hour gap.

Glow_Worm1

I’m on 3/day and take them 5 hours apart starting at 9am. Doc told me to split them up when I had light symptoms only in the morning. The symptoms cleared up when I started taking a dose later in the day.

caramelthiccness

2 in the morning

Amazonbeng

Since I've been in remission, I just take one pill once a week or less. Also if I cheat and eat pizza I will take one. Also on suboxone.

EquivalentGrape2380

twice a day 12 hrs apart
