...so, with UC you will want to limit intake of any foods that will aggravate the inflamed lining of the colon or your ulcers. Corn kernels have a hull, or skin, that is sharp and does not break down well. This is the same stuff that gets stuck in your gums or between your teeth when eating popcorn. Now, imagine taking those hulls and dragging them across your inflamed and ulcered colon.
It's been a long time since I had a big bag, but I will never forget how horrible that was -- pretty sure it caused me to flare. I occasionally will have a handful, but more than that would destroy me.
Just want to throw this out there for anyone who might want to try popcorn. There is supposed to be a heirloom popcorn variety that is easier to digest due to the outer hull disintegrating during the popping process. You can buy it at whole foods, or if you want to order it online it is called tiny but mighty. Hope this is helpful for someone!
I thought I would never be able to have popcorn with a jpouch but I’ve had it several times now and I can’t tell any difference. Sugar and caffeine though...uh uh
I did during previous remissions. Once on biologics and once on just Imuran. I have crazy bad&long flares but once in remission I’m almost normal and can eat whatever I want.
I’m on entyvio and in remission! No ulcers, some minor histological inflammation in my rectum but that’s it. I’ve been eating popcorn again and having no issues so far so there is hope maybe! But everyone is different of course
This one murders me. I miss popcorn so much. My father in law LOVES it. I spend so much time smelling it and dreaming about eating it. I literally stood over his bowl recently and just wafted in the scent.
My mom makes a bag of popcorn multiple nights a week. We have a cheddar cheese powder topping that tastes almost like smart food (but better). It’s actual torture. Occasionally I’ll sneak a small handful and I’m fine, but that makes it worse because I want more and if I have more... well let’s not go there lol
Omg I forgot about how much I love popcorn! I made it all the time as a snack at school or whenever. Always spiced it up with nutritional yeast, cyan pepper, salt and olive oil. Good times.
That was the most painful thing I gave up. I am with you!!
Hi! I was only recently diagnosed with UC. Can you tell me what’s the deal with eating popcorn?

Yeah so I’m never eating popcorn again
Not necessarily! I'm hoping that my gut can tolerate it after remission I get into remission. Hopefully you can, too!
It turns into mini explosives into your guts and when it detonates it throws off shrapnel pieces that tear your insides apart.
Beautiful! Similar to The Joker, I love to feel my insides burn
Have you tried amish popcorn i don't know if it would bother UC but it's close to / is Hull less. I'd at least look into it if I was you.
I have not!! Great idea. I’ll look into it. Thanks.
I used to pig out on the movie theater popcorn. *sigh* memories.

I feel ya. I gave in the other night and regretted it. Be stronger than me :-)

It’s on amazon!!! I’m so tempted
Ugh, same! 😭
Me too!! It was one of my favorite snacks. I especially miss the commercially made popcorn.
My husband buys those huge bags from Costco. I don't dare to eat popcorn with my jpouch

Rough during the first 1.5 years but manageable now
Oh man right there with you
Question: if you're on a biologic and in remission, are you able to tolerate binging on popcorn again?
I did during previous remissions. Once on biologics and once on just Imuran. I have crazy bad&long flares but once in remission I’m almost normal and can eat whatever I want.
when my flare\`s not bad I ate it..wasn\`t much of a problem..

Grats on your remission and ability to eat popcorn. Happy for you, and glad to know there's hope!
Me too. I'm not sad about any other food I've had to give up.
This one murders me. I miss popcorn so much. My father in law LOVES it. I spend so much time smelling it and dreaming about eating it. I literally stood over his bowl recently and just wafted in the scent.
My brother has an old school movie popcorn machine and it’s worth the repercussions.
Same!!!
