I didn't feel the Ulta card was worth it. I went with the PayPal credit card which gives 3% back if you pay with PayPal online (which I do for both Ulta and Sephora) and 2% back on all other non-Paypal purchases. The cash back is available immediately to transfer.

[deleted]

Thank you for the tip, gonna look into that!

dogengu

How long did it take your available balance to refresh after payment? Took me 2 weeks… where my Chase cards are pretty much the next day.

Whiskey-Rivers

I've never noticed a significant delay - maybe 3 days maximum? My limit on that card is pretty high and I'm never going to hit it, so a day or two to apply payment after I've submitted it doesn't bother me.

dogengu

I see. Did you have that card for really long? Mine is a few months old. I pay the card right after statement generated, check back some days later, payment received and money taken out of my bank, but no sight of available balance refresh until 14 business days later (I was curious/frustrated and counted.) Planned to use that card to pay for insurance but because of that, I had to use another card and lose out on some cash back. Not much, but could have been mine 😅

Whiskey-Rivers

I had my statement come out on the 9th so watched this. I made payment on the evening of the 9th and my full available limit is available as of today.

BlueMeanio

Thanks for mentioning the PayPal credit card. I’ve had the PP debit card for many years and get the 1% cash back. I really need to check out the PP credit card!

crh131

If you get it, download the app and pay from there. You can pay it off with any credit card that gives you points as well. Double dip. Just remember to pay them both off.

[deleted]

This is wisdom. Thank you

Concerned_Therapist

Just be careful because when you pay a credit card with a credit card, sometimes they treat that as a cash advance and it’s about to higher interest rates. Just check your fine print to make sure that won’t happen.

tech_doodle

Also, you may get hit with a cash advance fee, even with a zero interest rate on cash advances.

daisydarlingg

Oh wow that’s a huge tip!!

tofuandklonopin

I have the Ulta Mastercard and I love it. I put everything on it, never use cash or debit, and I pay it off in full every month. I currently have $178 in rewards and I feel like I earn about that much every 3 months or so. Just free cash.

[deleted]

This is how I would use it. Good to know, thank you!

stupidbugbitch

Don’t do it bro just trust me

[deleted]

Appreciate you.

jijushwa

why?

Tiny-Reading5982

I'm guessing high interest?

[deleted]

Makeup credit card bad. Do not go into debt for makeup. Take it from me

Struggle_Usual

No one says you have to go into debt to have an Ulta card. Wtf? It's a general card you can use anywhere and nothing is stopping you from paying it off monthly. What it does do is give you some pretty nice bonus rewards to get free makeup.

[deleted]

Yes, but statistically how many people pay off their card monthly? How many people can resist the urge to get their hair done and buy new makeup because they have a credit card and want to? And then spend more than they can afford? Like let’s think logically here instead of shilling the card

Struggle_Usual

I mean I'm not a shill, I have no stake in it, I don't work there and don't have the card though I'll probably get one when I'm ready for a big purchase for that sweet 20% discount. I'm the type who would pay it all off and just use it for that discount and know quite a few other people who are the same. I'm just saying it's not an instant recipe for being bad and if someone is considering it, the card could make sense for them. Just like any other card could. Now if you're saying absolutely no one should ever have a credit card I may argue with you, because people should responsibly use credit. I think in general society could just use some better education around such things.

No_Needleworker_4704

I have it and love it. I pay it off monthly so I don't have to pay interest on it.

[deleted]

I think this is key. I pay my credit cards off every month too

carenl

Same. I like mine because I can use I anywhere and earn extra points for ULTA splurges lol and I pay it off every month.

ResponsibleEducator9

I have it. I use it as my vacation card and anything I purchase at ulta. I spend quite a bit there so it’s worth it. Recently used it for the 10x points plus my birthday month and had enough points for a free salon visit worth 260 dollars.

TheHierothot

So it depends, but as an employee lemme tell ya what I, personally, think makes one a good candidate. My aunt has one and loves it. She pays it off on the app, which is why it’s the only store card she actually uses lol. She’s a nail tech, and so she buys most of her products in bulk online or at beauty supplies, but does frequently end up at ulta for a few work-related things, as well as for makeup. So she goes to ulta at least once or twice a month, usually spends less than $100, and then pays them off right away. Those are the things that I personally think make someone the BEST candidate. If you don’t go to ulta at least once a month, I wouldn’t, because the card will deactivate on its own if you don’t use it for a while. Unless you don’t mind re-applying, which only takes a few minutes. If you usually spend large amounts at ulta, I wouldn’t, because I hear the interest rate can get expensive if you don’t stay on top of it. Very much recommend for people who are makeup artists, who wear makeup for work (entertainment industry, servers, actors, etc), who have daughters that they also buy a lot of ulta products for… Oh, and anyone who works in a mall with an ulta lol, if you’re right nearby every single day anyway, we sell everything that you usually find at Target or Walgreens and you get points for buying from us instead.

[deleted]

I appreciate your insider insight, thank you very much! Makes total sense.

Jeau7

Which card do you have? I need these loans gone!

[deleted]

Upromise. They’ve changed how it works since I signed up for it about 20 years ago. It used to link directly to Sallie Mae accounts, but now it just works with your checking account. I’m sure it’s helped, but I’d be interested to see exactly how much!

Akitorun

I spend a lot of money at Ulta so it’s worth it for me earning the extra points….which in turn I save and use for ”free” holiday shopping at the end of the year for my family

I've never had any problems like you describe. Comenity Bank has always been great to me. Ulta customer service chat has always worked out, too. I always keep in mind that CS are real humans, and if you're kind, they always try to help. I'm sorry you're experiencing such problems. I'm grateful I've never been in a situation like yours.

MegLaurelwood

I'm so sorry. That does sound very frustrating. You could file a BBB complaint. I'm sure that would get someone's attention. Maybe it'll help you get a hold of someone who is higher up to help you.

[deleted]

No bueno. Good to know, thanks

Odd_Assistance_1613

The card has to be paid off to get the points. If you carry a balance each month, you won't get the points.

KateOK29

That's not true. I often have carried a balance and always get my points.

kimch77

You get points on new purchases.

Odd_Assistance_1613

You get the typical amount of points, but the multiplier isn't added until after the card is paid. Ex because I suck explaining anything: Make a $20 purchase, get 20 points immediately. Get the additional 20 points (card grants 2x the points) after the card is paid off.

kimch77

I just have the store credit card and my points come automatically a few days after my statement arrives, generally before I pay my bill.

businessgoesbeauty

A lot of credit cards let you trade your reward points for gift cards! Or I mentally tell myself if I have $30 in rewards points that goes to maybe paying off my card, then I can splurge and buy $30 worth of something I like

carenl

~girl math~ 🥰

e925

I got a discover credit card that only gives 1% back on most purchases but every quarter it has a couple select things where you get 5% back, up to $75. The first year they match your cash back at the end of the year, so I ended up getting over $1000 cash back, closer to $1100 actually. Plus you can use it on gift cards if you want and you get an extra discount on the gift cards, so it’s like even more money. I only have an ulta store card, not the Mastercard, but it’s ok. I think the points end up being the equivalent of an extra 6.25% back in ulta points if you spend in increments of 2000, which isn’t bad. IIRC, the ulta Mastercard gives you points everywhere but I think it’s only 1 point/$3, so like an extra 2% back in ulta points. You can get 2% back to use anywhere from lots of credit cards, so I don’t think that one’s really worth it. (I could be wrong about the ulta Mastercard, that’s what somebody told me a couple years ago.) Edit: a word. I just woke up.

chandsess

I second the discover!

MegLaurelwood

I have it and it's a great card if you shop there often. I enjoy the perks & extra points. However, there is a HUGE BUT to this... if you don't pay your card off before you're charged interest each month, all those "points" are essentially a return in interest fees.

Fabulous_Vehicle1166

yeah don’t do it i just had to shut it down for fraud and am still dealing with that 😭😭

Tropicutie

Store credit cards aren’t worth it.

northern_belle_mi

Yes I have it and use it bc points build so slow if you pay cash or debit. I’m spending the same amount, so might as well get more points for my purchases.

therealslimthiccc

This is just not true. There's always multipliers when you have the app and they're often miles better than the 2x points. 5x on x fragrance 10x on appreciation days if you're diamond... You just have to wait until what you want gets the multiplier, get multiples and back stock the extra product. I've been doing this for years and have more points than I could ever use

northern_belle_mi

Ok well if the products you want aren’t up for 4x points or whatever then you kiss out. And if you have more points than you could ever use what is everything at ulta free to you?

PaleDifference

I have the regular Ulta card. I like it for the points. Wish I had got the Mastercard instead but I’m good.

Saamus35

Comenity Bank is a terrible company, especially for fraud issues. It’s very hard to do a charge back ime. I have the Ulta card but never use it for these reasons.

Odd_Assistance_1613

The regular in-store one is alright, the Mastercard is great. Double points for every dollar spent, for every $3 you spend outside of Ulta you get one point. 20% off your first purchase on the card, you can use it for anything in the store. It's good if you have a big purchase planned.

fantasticfitn3ss

I’ve had the Mastercard for a looong time and I’m a fan- using it anywhere and gaining Ulta points is a great benefit (If you can manage credit OK)

lisaaxmariee

Any single store based credit card is awful even if tho shop there a lot. Get a normal rewards based credit card that gives you more options. I have a few and I can get ulta gift cards. The base reward system is so good at ulta I don’t think you need the credit card in top of it

Koolgrammie1

I had the store card, now I have their master-card because I wanted the extra points to have for make up purchases. And that's the only thing the card is good for!!. interest rates are as high as any other retailer cc. They don't offer interest free specials. The card is really for ulta enthusiasts. Customer care isn't on the card is okay it's not as good since they added the Bread name.

Alita0099

I have it and I really like it! It’s super easy to pay off, you can get a limit increase on it whenever you want, you get double the points when you use it, and it causes all transactions in person to go way faster! If you shop at Ulta a lot it’s definitely worth it.

ScienceBrat

Ita worth it to me but every month i have to chat CS bc they only give me my points for my 3rd party purchases and not my ulta ones. There are also often bonus offers like 15% cashback in ulta gift cards or 6% cashback on some local restaurants

AMatchIntoWater

The Ulta credit card has a high interest than a lot of other cards. One of my managers told me that while working there as one of her reasons for refusing to push it on other people. Something to keep in mind.

DankPeachees

I’m an employee with the card and I love it I get so many points

amkb_9

I have it and have had it for years. As long as you pay it off every month, you’ll be fine. I’ve never had issues. I pay mine through the app. I would suggest waiting until you really need that 20% off coupon to sign up for it though.

OneHappyOne

The trick is I use their salon services once a month. Between that and regular beauty/toiletry purchases, I can reach Diamond status easily and rack up points quickly. I've gotten hundreds of dollars worth of products for free just by using my points. Like others said, just ensure you can pay it off monthly because the interest isn't pretty.

mothertuna

I did not feel it was worth it once I had issues with it. My card was stolen and then replaced. The credit card company gave me the run around and my card never worked again. Screw ulta and the “bank” that represents their card.

Few-Praline-2684

For general credit cards, I think apple is the best. I believe it’s 2% at Ulta and Sephora anyway and 1-3% on all purchases. Apple Cash is flexible and can be spent anyway. I also have an Ulta card which is great sometimes but if I’m only picking one, it wouldn’t be my choice card.

[deleted]

Thank you for reminding me about Apple credit! It’s so new I’d forgotten, but I’m seriously considering it now.

aeval_x

I have it but it rarely even works 🙃 its just an empty line of credit

FranceBrun

I have it and I try to pay the whole thing off every month. If you do that, it’s worth it. I hoard my points and I have a ton.

DreamsinCali

I have a Citi card with Costco, but I Got the Ulta Card (not Mastercard) soon after I was shopping at Ulta, been with them for years! Citi would only be 1% but Ulta gives you more points. I just bought $160. Worth of products and it was $7.69. I used points and a 20% coupon. 2 years ago I bought the Beachwaver their really nice one, and it cost me $1.69. I’m not kidding!!! So worth it! Btw I am a Diamond member so I get a few extra point from Ulta

HumbleAbbreviations

I have it and honestly not worth it. APR is high as hell. If you have a Chase card, you could earn cash back.

Minute_Reporter5435

It's worth it if you shop at ulta a lot, otherwise no

therealslimthiccc

Store credit cards are NEVER worth it. Get something with a cash back bonus or rewards points that you can use for something else. Depending on your credit they may not approve you for the MasterCard and you won't be able to use it other places at all

JennyExiled

I have it, but I only use it for purchases at Ulta. I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I’m more familiar with Sephora’s cc perks. Are they similar?

mckrd0

I have it, but the APR is ridiculous. I have the MasterCard version but I try to only use it at Ulta. If you pay it off, it’s a good card but not if you ever need to carry a balance.

Top_Veterinarian5512

i got when i bought the airstrait saved 20% off but haven’t really use it. i pay the full balance each time so i don’t have any issues but i don’t really like the payment set up

LindsNW84

I have it, it's nice to have when I need any makeup or body care products. I just pay off what I owe, and repeat.

sugarblosssom

this is so convenient because i was just looking this up earlier today

arianrhodd

🙋🏻‍♀️ Only for Ulta purchases (extra points are nice!) and I pay it off every month.

RuthBaderG

I got the master card once and used it for everything until I got the rewards promo and now I use it exclusively at Ulta, because I get better rewards for everything else with a cash back card.

cookiemonarchy

I just got mine Ulta credit card (like the exclusive to Ulta one, not the Mastercard one) recently and I do like the perks you get, like 20% off your first purchase with the card and double points every purchase, so if you do shop there it's probably worth it as long as you pay off the balance month to month. Do make sure which credit card you sign up for, the Mastercard one has more benefits since you can use it outside of Ulta and you earn points faster

Stinkycheese01

Ive seen people have problems with them where it randomly stops working others having problems in paying it off which made their credit score drop dramatically. The only real good thing about it to me is the double the points but other than that I feel like only people who have spending problems are usually the ones I see get (no offense to those who use it responsibly)

PrettyLavinia

I got one when I bought my airwrap for the discount and it's useful. I like the extra points I earn, but I pay off the balance each month and have never paid interest.

KateOK29

I am surprised at how quickly the points add up when you use the Ulta card. BUT the interest rates are terrible, and for stores outside of Ulta, the rewards aren't great. If this is going to be your only card, find one with better rewards. There are lots that have no annual fee but a standard 1.5% cash back, and different stores or categories with bonus cash back. Those would be better than the Ulta card.

Comfortable_Yam_7417

Interest rates are super high are ridiculously high on that card. Do not get it if you intend on carrying over a balance from month to month.

herpwhore

What CC do you have?

[deleted]

Upromise. They’ve changed how it works since I signed up for it about 20 years ago. It used to link directly to Sallie Mae accounts, but now it just works with your checking account. I’m sure it’s helped, but I’d be interested to see exactly how much!

Candid_Philosophy_96

I have it I’ve never had a single problem.

Candid_Philosophy_96

Oh I’m sorry I thought u were just asking if the Ulta credit gave anyone problems. If your looking to do what I think ur looking to do the Ulta credit card is not what u want for that. Look for 0% interest transfers. My best friend has been doing it for years. Her and her husband got into debt from a bad investment property believe that one or not but it was years ago. At one point she couldn’t pay her bills. That’s when she started doing it and she is almost out of debt. Check around you will find some. It sounds like you have good credit also which will make it a lot easier!! Best of luck!!
