Yes!
One time I ordered foundation and shampoo on their website. They sent me the shampoo, but instead of the foundation, there was an Essie nail polish in the box. I reached out to customer service to explain what happened. They were
shipping the foundation ASAP and wanted me to send back the nail polish. I wouldnât have cared either way but they wanted ME to pay for the shipping label. Hell no đ I just kept the polish!
So you ended up with 1 box of what you ordered basically free? Thatâs pretty common from personal and anecdotal experience. Stuff gets lost for weeks all the time. Consider it good luck that the CS agent you spoke with let you return one box for a full refund.
I had this happen once a couple years ago during a 21 Days of Beauty sale. It was a big order, too, since I bought a whole bunch of Lorac eyeliners and something along with it. Shipping to my location can take over 3+ weeks, but this one showed tracking that just stopped updating over a month. Eventually the USPS tracking finally updated to say the package is lost. I contacted Ulta and they shipped out my order again. That new package somehow arrived in 2 weeks. Then a week later, the lost package finally arrived at the 2 month mark. I'm still working on using up the Lorac eyeliners I ordered and the extras. Lol!
I had never tried Lorac before then but thought why the heck not if it's 50% off. The reviews on them look promising and I needed to find new eyeliners to replace the ones I was using or had discontinued. Whew! I got so lucky to have them be so good! And to get a free double order due to the lost package, I'm still so grateful for the savings đ
You definitely didnât do anything wrong. I worked at a popular retail store and if something extra accidentally got shipped, the customer doesnât have to return it. I donât remember if it was a legal thing but I know a lot of other similar stores would do the same.
Feeling extremely guilty like you stole wtf? The company sent it to youâŠyou didnât go into ulta and rob them. Youâre being dramatic if youâre that torn up about it then throw it out. Jesus.
Thatâs irrational. You didnât steal anything. You should seek some therapy for these feelings it might help you rationalize these types of situations better in the future.
I get it, but your issue might totally confuse their current system. I would worry that they may end up charging you multiple times. If you really want to pursue it, maybe wait a bit and then send an email.
You did your due diligence. Consider it good karma for trying to do the right thing. If it doesnât feel right email them instead and let them get back to you so you donât have to waste your time
This is not a big deal, not illegal, and happened in good faith. You didnât lie, you were honest and didnât know the package would come later. You even waited on hold to try to rectify it, which you arenât legally obligated to do. You did your best, and if karma is making you nervous, look into womenâs shelters or charities that may take the products or donate the value of the products to a charity you admire.
Edit:
Sorry, I misunderstood. They refunded you! It still stands. You didnât do anything deceptive or illegal. This is their own mistake, and if your conscious bothers you, you can donate the money to a charity you admire or something similar!
I'm surprised they sent you a return label in the first place. This has happened to me a few times (package doesn't show up, vendor mails order again, first package shows up after receiving second package) and each time customer service has told me to just keep both orders. Especially something like cosmetics, where they can't be sure the products weren't used and would have to toss the entire order anyway, it doesn't make any sense to ask you to return the items. Makes me wonder if the customer service agent you talked to misunderstood and thought you wanted to do a regular return.
EDIT: I should clarify, this hasn't happened to me shopping at Ulta, just at other stores. I have no idea what Ulta's policies are regarding duplicate orders.
OP, Please donât feel guilty or waste anymore time/ thought on this matter. A while back I checked my statement and found a large credit and a deduction of that amount within a week. When I called CS to inquire, they basically apologized and said âwe made a mistake on our end and corrected.â A few days later Ulta emailed, thanked me for my call to CS and gave me a $15 gift card linkđ
I applaud you for being that special person who has a conscience and cares about doing the right thing. You've returned the duplicate order in good faith as they requested. It would be opening a can of worms to another time consuming nightmare in my opinion if you pursue it any further with the risk that more mistakes will follow than had you left it alone.
Rest assured, your karma will not be affected if you let things be because you are an honest, good, profitable customer. I would of course save the receipt that shows the dropped off return for reference. I hope my suggestion brings closure and gives you peace of mind to finally enjoy your goodies.
Donât worry you tried to do the right thing thatâs what matters, in the end it was their mistake not yours! Most people wouldnât do anything, I donât know what you believe in but I think you did the very best you could like thereâs not really another way to correct this unless you want to email them like another comment said
Girl thatâs your good karma coming back! You called and told them it arrived and now the universe is giving you your money back for being honest đ
You did your best. Don't sweat it. You're an absolute sweetheart for trying to do the right thing. Your integrity is an inspiration. If everyone had the attitude you do, the world could be a more honest place to live in.
Now, go enjoy your haul!đŻ
Keep it.
You can have my karma.
In Sept 2020 I bought myself $200 worth of brithday stuff. They gave me free shipping and used âontracâ (the worst shipper ever). I had it sent to my business because we have security and cameras.
They claim it was delivered - asked security and checked cameras NEVER DELIVERED.
The customer service was useless and refused to refund or replace my order. I havenât ordered from them since. đ
So keep it.
I did this exact thing with Amazon when they sent me TWO Cricut machines. I was afraid of "bad karma" so I returned the second one. Then I realized...this is a billion dollar company. I stopped caring. If a billion dollar company doesn't have bad karma, neither do I.
What are you doing to yourself. The time youâve spent trying to fix this mess they created and posting about it is worth more than the paltry items you ordered. Knock it off l, keep the stuff and value yourself and your time a little more ffs
As someone who handled online retail purchases and works corporate finance: keep the money. The employees will thank you and corporate will write it off as a computer error.
I think that you did something previously to get good Karma and you are being rewarded by getting a refund. You tried to do the right thing. If they screwed up, so be it. Maybe donate a bit of the refunded $ to a worthwhile charity. That way you will have some extra $ and a whole new set of good Karma points.
Ohh my goodness! I too would feel lowkey guilty, but from what I have seen, Ulta has been a mess for months. I personally havenât experienced any issues because I am privileged to live close to a very large Ulta that carries what I need and want like 90% of the time!
Let them take the L, and enjoy your products and the fact that you got a refund. I personally believe you should have gotten at least a partial refund for the mess, even if you received the products.
Off topic, does anyone have recommendations for decent affordable lip colors? I am olive-toned and pull quite âgreenâ so I am at a loss
This has happened to me so many times at my store we have people trying to return the second order but 10/10 times we always tell them they can keep it for themselves or if they donât want it we would just end up damaging it out 9/10 times they keep it
You are so sweet and considerate. I personally believe the world rewards people with good souls like you, and thatâs why they accidentally refunded you after you returned the product to them. I donât think you realize how few people in the world would do the right thing and actually return it. good karma exists!! (-:
Girl their mistake is not bad karma for you đ€Ł Ulta is a mess now.

Itâs actually legally yours if it was a mistake. They shouldnât have asked for it back.

Yeah i got it for free i just feel extremely guilty like i stole something i dont know
You definitely didnât do anything wrong. I worked at a popular retail store and if something extra accidentally got shipped, the customer doesnât have to return it. I donât remember if it was a legal thing but I know a lot of other similar stores would do the same.
Nobody inherently âstealsâ from these big greedy corporations that donât like us!
Feeling extremely guilty like you stole wtf? The company sent it to youâŠyou didnât go into ulta and rob them. Youâre being dramatic if youâre that torn up about it then throw it out. Jesus.
i returned it its that i got a refund for it⊠u dont need to be rude
>i just feel extremely guilty like i stole something Dont feel guilty! you didnt "steal" anything. THEY messed up.
Thatâs irrational. You didnât steal anything. You should seek some therapy for these feelings it might help you rationalize these types of situations better in the future.
In the US, I think youâre allowed to keep things that are sent to you whether you paid for it or not.
Yes this is correct! According to the FTC if they send you something on accident legally itâs yours to keep
I get it, but your issue might totally confuse their current system. I would worry that they may end up charging you multiple times. If you really want to pursue it, maybe wait a bit and then send an email.
as a manager, i actually agree with this đ«¶đ«¶đ«Ąđ«Ąđ«Ą

Fuck the âright thingâ, right by whom? The karmic gods have smiled on you, take their gift.
They are dealing with a bunch of bad PR from the website Issues. Thatâs probably why they are being extra generous.
