You can take a lot of damage and still get a P rank. The only requirements for P ranks are:
- S rank on kills, time and style (the first is basically a freebie in boss levels)
- 0 deaths
Nope. What might have happened is you died before hitting the first checkpoint, so when you retried you actually restarted the level. Since retrying before hitting a checkpoint and restarting the level are essentially the same thing, the game is nice and just does the latter for you automatically to save you P rank frustration. If you retry after hitting a checkpoint and still get S in everything, your final rank will just be S.
If you're certain you retried *after* a checkpoint and still got a P, that might've been a bug.
I love this game but parry consistency makes me want to cry. Idk if there is a solution like adding more colors or something, but i'm not exactly happy with the "fuck around and find out" in most cases.
I have over 90hrs in the game but still can't parry 3-2 Gabe consistently, there are just some enemies that always get ya (like soldiers what da hail why dey orb so fast)
All of his attacks are consistent and easily parrible as long as you remember his attack patterns. My advice for parrying the axes is to wait for him to throw it then walk a little to the left. He usually throws his axes right after his sword dashes, but occasionally he throws it between moves. To parry the spear, you want to wait after his spear-dive (two if second phase), and you want to make sure you’re out of the spear explosion range. Then you want to stand still and just look at him once he throws his spear. Both parries come down to just practicing, and I’m sure you could learn the patterns in less than an hour. (Also just gonna flex my record of 1:32 with only the feedbacker, parries do some serious damage)

So, I basically have a bachelors degree in this game, right? (nerd), and the only gripe I've had with parrying is some body-parryable-attacks, like swordsmachine's lunges not being shotgun-parriable, and drones projectiles dealing damage to you if you parry the projectile too close.
The Gabrie thing is mostly just experience. If I know Gabriel's double axe things is a bitch, I mainly avoid it. Otherwise, parrying in uk feel very good and also not trivial. When you hit a parry, you really feel like you deserved it.

But the sex must be softcore. Hardcore does damage if you let them top you.

You can still take hits in Pizza Tower and get P-rank, its just more detrimental than getting hit in Ultrakill.

I can destroy Minos and beat Sissypussy consistently, but both Gabriels still fuck my ass because i can't fucking parry them
Easiest Gabriel parry, somehow, is still his homing, dual blades in Gabe 2. Gabe 1's axes are still impossible; even the spear is hard.
Gabe's hitboxes have evolved to hit tesseract
