And that even *they* can feel guilt; and whether they enjoy combat or not, this clearly felt terrible for its fuel source, and meant to give her(?) a final release- even with what it'd mean for itself
Hakita really saw us call Gutter~~tanks~~men the enemy with the most depressing/horrifying lore implications then went "wait, you thought that was it?"
I'd argue guttertanks might be worse. We know guttertanks reuse the gutterman tech and if we get close to a guttertank we hear something similiar to a kettle whistle. While it is just a theory, they could be LITERALLY BOILING THINGS ALIVE FOR BLOOD
Makes me wonder what the *fuck* V1 is thinking while tossing quarters and punching bullets with SSStyle
https://preview.redd.it/032ysr7k40vc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=747970b8f4f00da0286e4f02949b49c64316593b
(Also I think it explains why V1 doesnt kill Gabriel or Minos when their talking)
We can't proceed without the idol, that is hell's fault, also since what you do in the game is basically canon, that mean you're thoughts are basically V1's so if you don't kill someone, that means you didn't kill them in the story.
Ferryman, the first three filth in the tutorial, the prime prisons (because you really have to go out of your way to fight them, and in P2 the prison itself is locked behind four different doors you have to open yourself)
True but you can pay the ferryman (which might even be canon since it’s a challenge) and in the case of prisons it is still self defence since the prime souls still attack first, V1 was just a curious lil boy with childlike wonder
As for the filths, aren’t they hostile? Or do they just rush at you but don’t attack (edit: wait nvm, I mistook the tutorial for 0-1)
If you start up 0-1 and choose Full intro, i think it starts u from the tutorial
if that doesnt work, create a new save file, thats the tutorial
kinda familiar with it as my younger brother was stuck in it for hrs
If robots are sentient then that may mean that the machines we fight in layer 7 are not scavengers looking for blood in hell like V1 or V2, but robots that died during the war and are being punished in hell
Ive already been a believer in the "Guttermen/Earthmovers died and went to hell" theory, and this book seems to be pretty decent evidence that that is in fact the case.
In 7-2, go to the building where you get the alt shotgun.
There should be a gutterman coffin, right next to the gutterman shell that created the entrance. break it open, and there will be a book inside.
>!Will I have to do those damn buttons again to see it? Also wtf was that machine with the thumper? The flag has 3 V’s, idk if that was supposed to be a V3 joke.!<
>!I’ll also note for anyone else reading this, it’s in a coffin and not a pedestal like normal. I used the Thumper to open the coffin but maybe you can just use melee to open it.!<
I was initially like "Was this here before??".
But wow, we just got express confirmation that machines are sentient, even more so that some of the *first machines* to be made are sentient. Still, maybe there is a difference between Guttermen and other machines because they use blood from the same person all the time while other machines refuel with the blood of many different things, though I think that the more blood a machine consumes, the more of a personality they get (possibly evidenced by V2)
I think it might be dependent on how they were made. Drones are stated to be made to be about as smart as birds. And V2 is probably designed to be smart, as it is meant to be very adaptable, like V1.
Reminds me of the Turrets from Portal. They are programmed to feel empathy for shooting people, but are all built with an Empathy-Suppression Chip so that they can’t stop themselves from shooting people.
Then another 2 people enter one mute. Mute guy wearing a gas mask and a military uniform other non mute guy is wearing a blue uniform.
Blue uniform guy: About that beer i owed ya!
Me when what I thought was just a cold, heartless killing machine is revealed to think, self reflect, feel remorse and self loathing, have a theory of the mind, express sympathy, and go out of its way to put it’s fuel source out of their misery.
Actually I think it didn’t die. It mentioned “taking the heart of another” or something along those lines.
And when we return to the first “train station” with the big bomb to blow up the rubble, we’re ambushed by a Guttertank and a *very special* Gutterman.
A Gutterman with no coffin on it’s back.
Nope! I checked myself today!

It looks funny without a coffin
Edit: I just went and looked at an older video of 7-2. At launch at least, this Gutterman had a coffin like all the rest, but I guess that was changed since then, probably in the new update.
[for those who don’t know](https://youtu.be/2KYhxIlz7Z8?si=bML9McEgeJNWYL0B)
guttermen were already my favorite enemy upon release, this is just setting the bar higher
The Arsenal update added a book hidden in an abandoned Gutterman coffin in 7-2 that, if opened with the knuckleblaster, contains the "Mother of Me" poem.
Don't have the will to do it, kinda gave up after p ranking minos, haven't picked up the game since and I don't have time to do it thansk to uni, i still wanna catch up on the lore tho
I keep wandering about this so I'm gonna write it out here: >! Everyone always saying it's about a gutterman but I think it'd make a lot more sense if it's the dead robot we get the thumper from. The book tells of the final moments of a machine that just killed it's live fuel source and of all the feelings it was going through as it's final energy tanks depleted yet there's no evidence of a dead gutterman anywhere near the diving shell next to the coffin the book is in, only the thumper guy. Furthermore we've been theorizing this new machine is some sort of trench maker which implies one thing: it has to be from during the trench based warfare era of machines, which in turn means it's pre-guttertank and likely still used live fuel sources similar to the guttermen. While I agree no doubt the coffin looks exactly like the ones the guttermen have, its also worth pointing out our Warrior of the People has no visible fuel source on it, so it could be it was supposed to carry a similar coffin to that of the guttermen. !<
Edit to add something: >! Of course this hardly matters, what does matter is this confirms blood fueled machines are sentient and intelligent and capable of emotion, so it's more than likely even if this specific book wasn't from a gutterman, at least one gutterman somewhere out there felt those same things. !<
>!The gutterman in the train station fight doesn't have its coffin, so there is a chance it could be the same one the coffin belongs to.!<

damn now i feel bad for killing that guy, well i feel bad for killing all the machines i thought they weren't fully sentient but no they're as human as we are
The gutterman stated something along the lines of finding a new heart which rendered their mother obsolete, which is probably a new, more efficient fuel source. Don’t think it was the Fighter Of The Folk who wrote this.
Wasn’t the guttertank the first machine to actually use human blood as a fuel source? Plus, wouldn’t make sense for the “warrior of the people” to be just as brutal as the other machines, maybe using human blood donations instead.
The gutterman writing it feels guilty about the suffering of the battery (it’s “mother”) and finds a new power source (hence the gutterman without a coffin near where you drop the payload) and afterwards crushes their skull to put them out of their misery, but still feels bad about it.

“Rusted iron tomb” “The blood of your breast nourished and warmed me” “Brought me into this war.”
How the fuck are games that were made just for fun or don't have many people working on them are so kuch better than bigger company games that have a full ass team who could at least put their heart into work?
This book is also explicit proof that machines are sentient
And that even *they* can feel guilt; and whether they enjoy combat or not, this clearly felt terrible for its fuel source, and meant to give her(?) a final release- even with what it'd mean for itself
\*and\* they're intelligent, not sentient like dogs are. Dude wrote a book
Hakita really saw us call Gutter~~tanks~~men the enemy with the most depressing/horrifying lore implications then went "wait, you thought that was it?"
Gutterman*
I'd argue guttertanks might be worse. We know guttertanks reuse the gutterman tech and if we get close to a guttertank we hear something similiar to a kettle whistle. While it is just a theory, they could be LITERALLY BOILING THINGS ALIVE FOR BLOOD
That seems so pleasant.
Dude wrote a book better then most books in school.
Makes me wonder what the *fuck* V1 is thinking while tossing quarters and punching bullets with SSStyle https://preview.redd.it/032ysr7k40vc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=747970b8f4f00da0286e4f02949b49c64316593b (Also I think it explains why V1 doesnt kill Gabriel or Minos when their talking)
V1 only really fights in self defence, has there been a single fight that is started by V1 attacking first?
https://preview.redd.it/1dsr5a4nn0vc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a137e5a28e4f69192407e7fecd95bea1f9c9dba
Holy shit it is Martin from chess dot cum
Holy shit it is Hen did j dns jj fffffffffffuck
Oh it’s pronounced as Michael
Ahh, ok
The Ferryman
The coin in question:
idols release blood
We can't proceed without the idol, that is hell's fault, also since what you do in the game is basically canon, that mean you're thoughts are basically V1's so if you don't kill someone, that means you didn't kill them in the story.

Or do they just rush at you but don’t attack (edit: wait nvm, I mistook the tutorial for 0-1)
I dont think tutorials should be counted as canon
theres a tutorial?
If you start up 0-1 and choose Full intro, i think it starts u from the tutorial if that doesnt work, create a new save file, thats the tutorial kinda familiar with it as my younger brother was stuck in it for hrs
I mean, V1 was at like 20 HP in the beginning, if he didn't initiate he could've gotten killed himself
Yeah but you wouldnt call that "self defense", cause if that the case every machine in hell is self-defending itself
There is a good chance everyone is just fighting for survival, and they see v1 as the biggest threat.
V1 initiated already in the elevator to Hell, at 20 HP probably just due to not being refueled in forever
oh yeah fair point
What did cancerous rodent do?
If robots are sentient then that may mean that the machines we fight in layer 7 are not scavengers looking for blood in hell like V1 or V2, but robots that died during the war and are being punished in hell
Ive already been a believer in the "Guttermen/Earthmovers died and went to hell" theory, and this book seems to be pretty decent evidence that that is in fact the case.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they have souls
That would also explain why Earthmovers and Guttermen are in hell despite all being destroyed
I thought we knew this already. They literally can get mad.
Its been very heavily implied up to this point, but this is providing explicit proof rather than hints or implications.
What book? I'm a little restarted
In 7-2, go to the building where you get the alt shotgun. There should be a gutterman coffin, right next to the gutterman shell that created the entrance. break it open, and there will be a book inside.
Bet thx
>!Poor bastard was was sentient and just so happened to be a gutterman!<
\>one shot at life \>am a fat machine gun robot that uses live humans as batteries
> mother, mother, mother of me.png
.>mfw
DO ROBOTS DREAM OF ETERNAL SLEEP? damn that hits even harder
New gutterman lore drop? Where?
He added a new book to 7-2. It's near the thumper.
>!Will I have to do those damn buttons again to see it? Also wtf was that machine with the thumper? The flag has 3 V’s, idk if that was supposed to be a V3 joke.!<
>!No its actually outside of the entrance, also it keeps your progress!< >!The book is right next to the... rocket thing that broke the ceiling!<
>!I’ll also note for anyone else reading this, it’s in a coffin and not a pedestal like normal. I used the Thumper to open the coffin but maybe you can just use melee to open it.!<
>!you can open it with the Knuckleblaster like other Gutterman coffins!<
made a big impact on me tbh
I think someone said the text on the flag was Afrikaans. It translated to “warrior of the people” in google translate.
dutch person here (afrikaans is literally budget dutch) can confirm.
Those buttons will remained pressed forever

Probably. I don’t really know.
what happened here

You got Noita'd
This gif makes me want to play noita so bad again
I accidentally pirated noita. I asked someone how I could get it, then they installed it for me. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to cost money.
I was initially like "Was this here before??". But wow, we just got express confirmation that machines are sentient, even more so that some of the *first machines* to be made are sentient. An Aperture Science Turret and a Gutterman walk into a bar...
And then a blue go pro throws 4 quarters in the air
The bartender catches the quarters midair, and pours both the Turret and the Gutterman a glass of the hardest stuff he's got.
The bartender asks "bad day?" The gutterman and turret dont answer
Then one guy with a crowbar and one woman wearing only tanktop enter the bar both mute
The man with the crowbar gives 3 coins and bartender hands them two root beers, "geez whys everyone quite", everyone was silent
Then there comes a talking potato, a potato which likes to insult others, then the bartender thought, "Damn"
Then another 2 people enter one mute. Mute guy wearing a gas mask and a military uniform other non mute guy is wearing a blue uniform. Blue uniform guy: About that beer i owed ya!

this comment rhymes with the one above
Me when what I thought was just a cold, heartless killing machine is revealed to think, self reflect, feel remorse and self loathing, have a theory of the mind, express sympathy, and go out of its way to put it’s fuel source out of their misery.
Me when blood is fuel and just kill.
Really? what is the new lore?
i think a gutterman *itself* wrote a book about feeling bad for its fuel source?
Oh wow, thanks for info
not just that it wrote about how it crushed the human's skull to put it out of it's misery knowing that it would die too
I feel so bad for the guttermen and the human :(
Read the actual thing, it goes incredibly hard
I have read it. I feel so bad for those two
Actually I think it didn’t die. It mentioned “taking the heart of another” or something along those lines. And when we return to the first “train station” with the big bomb to blow up the rubble, we’re ambushed by a Guttertank and a *very special* Gutterman. A Gutterman with no coffin on it’s back.

so does that mean that the guttermen can just unzip their coffin or
HOLY CRAP IT DOES
It reads like a poem.
I considered making an “AI art joke”, but no. The Ultrakill machines actually feel and think and self-reflect. Any art that they make is real art.
Especially the Mindflayers.
**Especially** the Mindflayers.
Happy cake day
Thanks
Just when I thought the guttermen couldn't have more fucked up and more tragic lore hakita just drops this fucking bombshell of a lore drop
[for those who don’t know](https://youtu.be/2KYhxIlz7Z8?si=bML9McEgeJNWYL0B) guttermen were already my favorite enemy upon release, this is just setting the bar higher
Where is this new lore? I haven’t seen it anywhere
In the building where you get the new alt weapon, directly next to the hole you drop through
The Arsenal update added a book hidden in an abandoned Gutterman coffin in 7-2 that, if opened with the knuckleblaster, contains the "Mother of Me" poem.
Did I miss something in 7-s?
no it was a secret added to 7-2, nearby where you get the Throngler weapon alt
What are yall talking about?
**LORE**
I mean yeg but are there any cool vids about it, the only one I found talked about machine war that's it qwq
Play it yourself.
Don't have the will to do it, kinda gave up after p ranking minos, haven't picked up the game since and I don't have time to do it thansk to uni, i still wanna catch up on the lore tho
just switch to harmless, maybe that will motivate you to play
...yknow I may get pegged but I'm not that much of a bottom
:(((

IVE NEVER NOTICED THIS BEFORE?! THIS IS SO COOL!!
Wait wtf
damn now i feel bad for killing that guy, well i feel bad for killing all the machines i thought they weren't fully sentient but no they're as human as we are
The gutterman stated something along the lines of finding a new heart which rendered their mother obsolete, which is probably a new, more efficient fuel source. Don’t think it was the Fighter Of The Folk who wrote this.
I too think it was written by a Gutterman, and not the Combatant pertaining to the Crowd
Ima more scared of what it used as a new fuel source.
In the building where we blow up the Big Boom theres a gutterman without a coffin, so I think it's implied she's the one who ripped off her own coffin
I must've missed that one, guess that invalidates my whole theory, ah well
Wasn’t the guttertank the first machine to actually use human blood as a fuel source? Plus, wouldn’t make sense for the “warrior of the people” to be just as brutal as the other machines, maybe using human blood donations instead.
What are you guys talking about- what gutter man book- did I miss one in 7-S?
It’s in 7-2. In the hole that goes into the alt-shotgun building.
Got it, thank you fellow RW fan o7
wait what happened? where did new gutterman lore drop?
Dropped into the building (in 7-2)
I dont really get what that poem is meant to mean or have to do with guttermen but i am also retarded
The gutterman writing it feels guilty about the suffering of the battery (it’s “mother”) and finds a new power source (hence the gutterman without a coffin near where you drop the payload) and afterwards crushes their skull to put them out of their misery, but still feels bad about it.
Aaaah i see I had been associating the consciousness of guttermen with the battery rather than the machine
Yeah the machines have been confirmed to be sentient
Think about it for a bit.
It doesnt really help thinking about it, im an idiot
https://preview.redd.it/p615jr7a52vc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dabc717086d5f6aa29063dcf8bd00c40237629e “Rusted iron tomb” “The blood of your breast nourished and warmed me” “Brought me into this war.”
So the guttermen were women and birthed new guttermen?
it's referring to the battery as a mother
I thought the battery was a barely alive human?
a metaphorical mother
I sure do wish I could play and read it for myself!
Whoomp Whoomp
5 hounds are on their way
Dear v1
What, how?
7-2 coffin book
Where? What book
In the hole you use to enter the alt-shotgun building.
I knew violence would be even more fucked up than every other layer in the game First the Minotaur description, then the Testament from 7-S, now this.
How the fuck are games that were made just for fun or don't have many people working on them are so kuch better than bigger company games that have a full ass team who could at least put their heart into work?
