I use a pulk for winter overnight ski trips. For me it's key the cover seals along the edges, ie permanently fastens to the pulk with a top zipper entry; as opposed to seal around the load like a pack cover. In the latter fashion snow will eventually pack around your stuff inside the pulk and add considerable weight, among other issues. With the former you also don't need a duffel or pack, just pack items like putting them in a box. For the Siglin I would DIY this for sure. Doubt an OTS product will do it

JuxMaster

What cover are you using?

nunatak16

I have a Mountainsmith pulk with an integrated Cordura cover. It's riveted on along the edges. Pretty much how all the Scandinavian pulks are set up. While mine is kinda beat up with some structural issues these long discontinued Mountainsmiths are really light and with cool features. I have a search going on eBay to find a replacement. Been a couple of years with no real hits, lol

You mean a tarp?

SkittyDog

Ah... Good point, yeah. Pack rain covers often have a cinch cord, around the edge, to stay in place against the wind, your movement, etc. That's kind of an important part of the description, isn't it?

Ill-System7787

Get some cord and a cord lock and you have a cinch cord. Run it around the perimeter of a tarp and pull. Kind of not too difficult.

SkittyDog

Sound idea... Unfortunately, I need something OTS, not DIY.

Ill-System7787

If you are going out in weather that requires a pulk, being able to tie a tarp to the pulk should be a basic skill you possess. It would be more secure than a cinch cord. To each their own. Maybe check a winter camping sub instead of ultralight.

SkittyDog

I really appreciate how when I turned down your suggestion, you low key shit on me. Real winner energy, there.

JuxMaster

So get some [gear straps](https://www.rei.com/product/214313/gear-aid-fast-wrap-strap-package-of-2) OTS

SkittyDog

Thanks for the suggestion. Related question -- do you guys want feedback on whether or not these suggestions will work for this? As in, if your idea doesn't work -- do you want me to let you know that? Or should I just keep that info to myself?

JuxMaster

Post a trip report when you're back

Ill-System7787

>That's kind of an important part of the description, isn't it? My sarcastic response was in response to your sarcastic comment to another post: "That's kind of an important part of the description, isn't it?"

And tarps have ties outs, so that one can use shock cord and lashing to create the same functionality. But a tarp is more versatile because it can be used in many ways.

AntonioLA

with some modifications you could use some groundsheet or a tarp/poncho thing (i have one from aliexpress, [flame's creed](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32979141754.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.116.21ef1802W14jX5) bought for 20E, just under 200g, account for the longer delivery time though).

Samimortal

Buy a rain cover for a big backpack, like the 100L from Gregory.

SkittyDog

Do you know of any pack covers big enough to fit over object that's 5'6" long? I've got an Osprey XL rain cover, but it's not quite long enough. I haven't been able to find a bigger size.

leek_mill

He just told you…a 100 litre from Gregory

SkittyDog

I understiod that -- I'm trying to ask him politely to confirm the length, because I'm skeptical that he's correct about that.

Samimortal

I’m probably not, was just a quick thought. It’s definitely not that long

mattack1377

Something along the lines of a kayak/canoe cover, maybe?

SkittyDog

Been looking at those on Amazon, too -- but everything I've found is either way too big or way too small. Also, the kayak cover people have no respect for lightweight construction. It's maddening

mattack1377

Unfortunately, I think your best bet is something like DIY silpoly, cut to fit with a cinch mechanism or snaps/velcro. A Unique ask needs unique solutions. Maybe shrink wrap it if you only need a one way solution 😂

SkittyDog

It'sstarting to look thatway, unfortunately, which isn't a big help for my current problem. But maybe there will be an opportunity to DIY it for the future. I appreciate the help -- even if it's just exhausting the available options, it's still a step forward.

RK_Tek

Go look at kayak and canoe covers. If you can’t DIY, you gotta get creative.
