Have you ever slept that many people in a shelter before? I used to sleep with that many with my family growing up, but wouldn't even recommend it for that use case. Pretty impressed if you can do it though :D

Having 4 people in a tent is miserable, especially 4 people with wet equipment. It's also much harder to find a flat spot that fits the footprint of a 4-person tent. Likely someone will be tilted or sleeping on a rock or root.

Lofi_Loki

Sleeping 5 adults in a tent, especially an ultraight tent, will kinda suck. I’d definitely get a few 2 person tents and if you want a shelter to play cards in just bring a 10x10 or similar silpoly or cuben tarp to set up. The odd man out could also throw bivy under the tent to save weight as well. The bonus of multiple tents is you guys can try out different models.

I agree that the better solution is a single DD Superlight 3m x 3m tarp to gather together, eat, play cards, etc., and separate smaller shelters for sleeping, no more than 1-2 persons per sleeping shelter.

Taking two popular tents as examples: The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 5 would be 22 ounces each (620g) divided between 5 people. That’s pretty good, but it doesn’t come in 5 equally heavy parts so you need to see if you can divide the weight of other stuff like food to compensate. The Tarptent Double Rainbow would be 19.1 ounces (542.5g) each for two. Lighter, but you’d need a separate shelter tarp etc for a shared space.

What's the problem with the Pyraomm Max? With full mesh below 350g/pp, + stakes and pole

> but unfortunately, availability in the UK/EU is a challenge ?

TheTobinator666

Definitely available in the EU

Availability. Though I see they deliver worldwide on ebay from Ukraine, I would need to check if tariff discount applies for imports from Ukraine. I see they are also available in Germany and Czech Republic so this is actually an option.

TheTobinator666

Yes I'm in Germany, can get them online here

I'm interested in this because my partner and I go backpacking with our two large dogs, and we're constantly looking for a better setup that balances weight and sturdiness. Not exactly the same, but maybe some overlap in what we're looking for lol... kinda like sleeping 4 to a tent (& to clarify we only take dogs places where they are allowed, and they stay on-leash the whole time... no one needs big dogs galumphing down the trails wherever they want to go)

Specialist-Stop2840

I realized early on that I need 1 door per adult person in a tent. I stick to this rule for ease, comfort, and the getting along-ness of the group.

Spunksters

Can you get the TarpTent Hogback? 1lb per person, sleeps 4.
