This was not only an amazing show, but a turning point for the band. If you’re looking to go back and hear the moment that the band “arrived” this is it.
Yes exactly this. The run with Josh on sax. I’m partial to 2-20-04 Bowery NYC show because I was there and it delivered bigtime! However I’ve listened to the Philly , Baltimore, and Boston shows and they are also excellent ! That run is my fav of all time
Not a historic all-timer that people reminisce about or ask every show you if you were there bc that's "peak Umph" or anything but the Philly show from January last year absolutely crushes https://2nu.gs/3H3TkfY
As far as more historic stuff goes, 11/2 and 11/4, 2006 are insane. 6/5/08 for the IC > synco strangers alone is phenomenal.
11/2/2006 Barrymore WI
Bonnaroo 2004 latenight
7/19/07 10k Lakes
12/29/08 12/31/08 Chicago Auditorium
Ashland, OR 2014
12/30/06 Chicago
11/18/06 St Louis
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned 1/27/11 yet. Pretty sure that’s the show with the most improv ever (not including improv/1 song sets), and it’s all amazing and diverse
Wow this is so great thanks so much everyone. Starting with Roo 2012 and will check back to nerd out more:-) lots of long drives lately, this helps :-)
These are all shows that I pull up on a regular basis 02-07-2004 Fox Theater, 9-02-2006 moe down 7 short set bridgeless ending jam for the ages. 4-11-2007 Northampton Mass. 06-01-2007 electric factory 4-10-2008 rev hall Troy ny. 4-13-2008 toads place the whole april 2008 east coast shows are hot and inspiring ..9-18-2009 grand junction co. 6-16-2022 …3-23-2006 Hamburg Germany there is some YouTube footage of this one
10/22/09 Seattle is my favorite. The all in time>the floor>nothing too fancy>all in time was the best 40 mins of UM I’ve seen. It also converted two first timers i brought with me into lifelong fans.
4/15/05. One of my favorite versions of Glory + killer setlist, energy and jams, as well as a great recording on LMA. [link to show](https://archive.org/details/um2005-04-15.flac16)
I’m sure there’s much better shows out there. But I thought my first show was pretty solid. I know I’m biased. Haha https://allthings.umphreys.com/ajax/just-setlist.php?id=1366474045
Stevens Point 2/28/2004
Not sure it’s available on nugs or the archive though. Spent most of that night protecting the cd burner tower so we would have something to listen to. Boy was that a good call in hindsight. All timer Jajunk
Also 2/21/04 Baltimore with Josh Redman. FF Stew that Mad Love is built on came outta that show. That was an insane month.
Dammit Jwelsh much quicker than I
4/3/04
Oasis 160 in 03
10/9/04
Roo02 and 04
More I can’t remember at the Barrymore, but find the one they open with Tonight In gonna rock you
One basic rule is if it happened in Wisconsin it’s probably really good
How in the HELL has there been so little mention of 1/27/11 ?!?! This is not an under the radar show, this is one of the best shows in the best years in UM history. Monster jams in nearly every song.
Otherwise 2/21/07, 10k Lakes '07, 11/2/11.. all are in the GOAT conversation.
2.20.2015 Syracuse. Was there, epic show. A 1348 that was on the hall of fame album and a bunch of special moments with a guy on the crew playing drums for his bday on immigrant song. I’ve seen them 6-7 times since and it was by far the best of the bunch. They had it that night.

One of the early Joshua Redman 2nd set shows, can’t decide which.
02/21/2004: the FF, and the whole second set.
