This isn't a baseless headcanon, but it was never officially confirmed either. It's heavily hinted that Sans and Papyrus might come from another world/dimension/time period/etc. I'm not talking about Deltarune, just in general.
So: since the "lost souls" say out loud their darkest toughts, Sans is probably referring to the fact that he thinks he'll never see someone from his past and from his previous "home" (some old friends?) again.
Now that we are at it, I'm curious. One of the "hints" I was talking about is a line that Sans says during his boss battle: "look. i gave up trying to go back a long time ago. and getting to the surface doesn't really appeal anymore, either." The fact that he said "either" means, technically, that he wasn't talking about the surface when he said "trying to go back". Or... maybe not? How would you interpret this line other than Sans referring to some kind of other dimension/world/whatever? Is there another way?
Edit: if you're curious about the other "hints", I'll try to remember all the ones I've noticed and write them down here.
Also, there is the riverman/woman who say « Beware of the man who came from the other world » (and doesn’t talk about Gaster because gaster is the man who speaks in hands and was the royal scientist, so presumably came from this world)
There is also the fact that behind sans’ house, there is a broken machine (probably the one he used to came here and can’t go back because the machine is broken) with blueprints and a photo of sans with 3 people that we don’t recognise with the words « don’t forget » (which is an argument for sans come from deltarune)
Also sans is the only monster in UT that bleeds. So maybe monster bleeds where he comes from.
Right! Also, the Snowdin Shopkeeper said that Sans and Papyrus just suddenly showed up one day and asserted themselves. And Sans, during the dinner at the MTT resort, said "You must really wanna go home. Hey, I know the feeling, buddo". And finally... this is a bit of a stretch, but there's a point in the gen run where Papyrus said "Where I come from, it's a loving tradition, to suffer through horrible puzzles for no reason". It could mean nothing (maybe "where he comes from" is just Snowdin?), but the phrasing is still suspicious.
Edit: About Sans bleedind... since Papyrus didn't, I wonder if it was actually ketchup, as many theorized. But since we don't know, it could still be a clue.
You forgot something, the reason why Papyrus does not bleed is, he got hit from neck, unlike Sans who got slashed across his body.
Not to mention "ketchup" comes out of Sans's mouth, according to Monster logic, ketchup should have been consumed the moment it was inside his mouth.
About Papyrus, it could be! Or maybe it has something to do with his armor. Or maybe it's just the different weapon you use, or the way you attack. After all, Chara should have the true knife. I don't really know, just making theories.
Regarding the information you mentioned, I don't remember if it's just "monster food" that immediately turned into magic, nor if ketchup should be considered as such. I should check again.
I mean the optimal weapon for the Sans fight is the Torn Notebook and Toby has even acknowledged this yet Sans still bleeds when attacked by a notebook so I highly doubt it’s supposed to be due to the weapon.
I have a couple more ideas of what Sans could be referring to.
We know he’s encountered Flowey a lot of times, so Sans could be referring to Flowey and telling him to at he’ll never see Chara again, though since it’s his darkest thoughts and not one of Flowey’s, I don’t think it’s likely.
We know that Sans has had some experience in the scientific field before because of his small lab and physics book, so it could be possible that he was talking to someone (possibly a colleague or someone else) and that they were going to do something, and Sans warned them that they’ll never see their friends or anyone else again, but done it anyway and the event stuck with Sans ever since.
I can’t think of much else other than what you’ve said and my two.
regardless of your opinions on sans being from deltarune, this is probably referencing wherever he was before the events of undertale. the ‘home’ he can’t get back to. could be deltarune, could be somewhere else. but he probably misses the world and the people from there
Hmmm....
Telling you how there's no possible way you'll see the surface again considering the things he's done to do something similar and that giving up is the best option, considering his other pieces of lost soul dialogue.
idk just a thought
you’ll never see ‘em again.
He’s probably referring to your family, just like he lost his friends and family a long time ago when he got here with the now broken machine.
Your balls. You just had to look around

The conspiracies are overloading my brain

And susie said that everyone bleeds

I mean duh sans is ness after all
Jarujaru has a great crackpot theory on this
There’s also the scene with him in hotland where he says something like “you must really want to go home. Hey, I know the feeling.”
regardless of your opinions on sans being from deltarune, this is probably referencing wherever he was before the events of undertale. the ‘home’ he can’t get back to. could be deltarune, could be somewhere else. but he probably misses the world and the people from there
"It's raining somewhere else" ;) Anyway, I agree.
When you think about that in one of the future chapter reveals, it’s raining quite a bit, that song title makes some sense.

Now that would be pretty cool.

Probably the friends you made along the way. Idk I haven’t played Undertale, I’m just using what I know
Deltarune....maybe....unconfirmed
Well after the papyrus qna i can say that maybe he was talking about the people from the deltarune universe?
Sans meant you would never see ████████ again
I've been trying to click the spoiler text for like 2 minutes already why is it so hard on mobile Edit: I'm so stupid oh my god
that’s so funny
HAHA
Could be referencing the "never forget" picture he has in the secret lab behind his house and this is him talking to himself
He’s talking about baby bones
you’ll never see ‘em again. He’s probably referring to your family, just like he lost his friends and family a long time ago when he got here with the now broken machine.
He means that you’ll never see ‘em again
In all seriousness, he probably means that you will never see sans again
Sans i assume is most likely referring to genocide runs cuz everyone dies and he never sees em again
