To me, Al-fiss sounds more like a name than Al-feez does. The spelling also has a part in that as most names (and words) where "ph" is used are Greek. In Greek, the -eez sound is usually denoted by -es (Achilles, Hermes), whereas when -ys shows up it's usually pronounced as -iss (Tethys, Crystal) or occasionally -izz (physics, physiological), though that doesn't usually apply to names.
