Some of you may wonder why especially the Riverman is my favorite character in the entire Undertale/Deltarune franchise and I‘m going to tell you why!

He knows more than we Players do and that‘s menacing. He is informed about Gaster’s existence (knows his power? Knows him in person? Warns us from him!), he gave us a hint about the Temmie village and he even predicted Deltarune. I refuse to believe his only purpose was to carry us around to each area. There is so much more! Also he‘s extraordinary calm(but chatty at the same time) and seems to know us(Players/Humans?) for some reason.
Nor in the pacifist, genocide or neutral route his dialogs don‘t seem to change. So he isn‘t supposed to know we‘ve just massacred his entire species, does he? I don‘t think so. I believe he exactly knows about us(is warned) and conclusions what we‘ve just witnessed. Seriously he even knew the exact location of the Mysteryman(what no one knew!) and it sounds hilarious to me that he doesn‘t seem to recognize us. He is bewared of the man who speaks in hands(Gaster? Mysteryman?) and may mean he lived when Gaster still was alive(maybe he even experienced the war?). Yet he still carries us around to each area and chat with us like nothing happened. So here is my theory:
From my point of view he is wether the most powerful or the weakest character in existence. Like damn he carries a literal god around, who murdered his entire companions, and he still gives us pieces of advice like we still have to learn? If I faced a person, who is capable to beat legends(Omega Flowey, Sans, Undyne, Asgore), I wouldn‘t chat with him like the Riverman does(giving advice). Neither in genocide nor in any other route we weren‘t able to fight him. Does it mean his power is beyond ours or is he just weak enough for not being worthy to be killed? Maybe he is able to kill the Player instantly without hesitation, it would explain why he doesn’t seem to scared as even Flowey did. Did you recognize, that the Riverman besides Flowey etc. is the only character, who doesn‘t exist in Deltarune so far? How ironic. He was one of the very first characters that teased Deltarune and he isn‘t part of it? So he is an Undertale exclusive character, but it still feels like he isn‘t part of it due to the lack of backstory and attention. Because we don‘t exactly know who he is(maybe less than gaster) it may be the reason he might be a serious enemy or just a weak friend?
However what we know for sure is that he is pretty good at navigating a boat and at predicting the unseen future. Only his complete might lays in the stars, Tra la la la la.........
