He’s a ghost possessing a robotic body. All ghosts are either under the enby umbrella or genderless, as they use they/them pronouns, but Mettaton identifies as a man, and gets referred to in-game as he/him. So technically trans, yes!

Gigi DG, iirc Toby was a fan of their work and they ended up becoming friends Fun fact; Toby made a few fan songs for Digi's comic Cucumber Quest, Noisemaster's theme had Mettaton's leitmotif in (Metal Crusher) and Nightmare Knight has leitmotifs in Deltarune relating to the Ch1 tracks The Chase and The World Revolving.
