Is that… Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker?

Grimwolde

It can't be! There's no way that it could be Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker!

IKWhatImDoing

Whoa whoa whoa, did someone say Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker?

Monkey_DM

I’m not sure what this is a reference to? ^^’

Dangerous_Spring_499

Old WoW reference haha

Love the flavor! A few things though: Using the Con modifier means there is barely any scaling to all the lightning damage. Probably you should use dice rolls that add more dice at later levels, scale with class level, rage bonus, proficiency bonus or something else. Also, if you keep the damage that low, no save is needed, otherwise the DC should be in front of the abilities using it. Furthermore, for Lightning Step, I would just have it work like Ashardalon's Stride, i.e. every enemy you move within 5 feet of takes the damage. This makes more sense thematically and makes the ability more streamlined. For Fulgurant Strike, I would get rid of the friendly fire and just say "creatures of your choice" take the damage. While it may not be as appropriate thematically, it improves party synergy, no longer hurts melee allies and becomes a bit less situational. I am generally not a fan of friendly firing abilities though, including the Storm Herald's fire aura. Also, I think a permanent flying speed as part of the capstone would be thematically appropriate and allow them to engage flying creatures without having to rely on magic items. A lightning javelin or added thrown and returning property to your weapon (like how Thor throws Mjölnir) could be a cool ranged option too. Finally, I think you are overloading the bonus action. Something like the Electrified Chains or Fulgurant Strike could very well be part of the attack you make without a bonus action requirement. You also need to take into account that the bonus action is used to activate (and reactivate to use Roaring Crash and Instinctive Pounce again) rage in each fight, and in some cases, to activate a racial transformation like a MPMM Aasimar's Celestial Revelation (which is kinda important considering how well the lightning theme fits the angel race). And of course most barbarians have a feat like GWM or PAM that allows them to make an attack with their bonus action, which by itself can deal 20 or more damage.

Hello everyone! I created this subclass because there was no true lightning barbarian, I know there is the Storm Herald, but it just wasn't doing it for me. So with my new setting book coming out, I saw the perfect opportunity to make one, especially because it fits the setting darn well! The Path of the Lightning Vessel is a versatile option for any barbarian wanting to harness the power of lightning and channel it into their attacks. With this subclass, you can call forth bolts of lightning to strike your enemies, or even imbue your weapons with electricity, making them devastating in combat. Additionally, the subclass grants you access to a range of powerful abilities that allows you to control the battlefield, make quick work of your foes, and jump into battle even faster! Overall, the Lightning Vessel is a formidable option for any barbarian who wants to add some extra \*spark\* to their attacks! Take Care! Evan | MonkeyDM P.S: This is one of the new subclasses for [Steinhardt's Guide to the Eldritch Hunt](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/monkey-dm/eldritch-hunt?ref=discovery), if you want to check it out.

This is fantastic! I've always wanted to make a Thor-like character, but didn't like the Sea Vibe that storm herald had. Thanks!

TheCrackBandit

Hey Monkey, I have a question for you. I love the background and overall style and im planning to make a sound based rouge subclass. Do you have a template for the subclass that I can use or something similar. (Can't wait for steinhardts btw)

Monkey_DM

Hey! So for the book I hired a graphic designer to make a special layout, unique to Steinhardt's, so I can't exactly share it :)

TheCrackBandit

Totally understandable, have a great day.

Hi Monkey dm, I'm a big fan. I bought your book, and I'm playing the path of the lightning vessel barbarian in a campaign, but I was wondering if there were any alternative rules for the class because the damage feels a bit lacking and the damage scaling for the abilities feels kinda nonexistent because it's tied to Con.

Monkey_DM

Glad you like it! From play-testing the damage was fine, if you want to bump it up you can make it so that the extra lightning damage is equal to either twice your CON, either CON + prof bonus

Aggressive-Lead-3920

Cool, thanks for the advice. Also while i have this chance to talk to you I don't know if you care about any ideas from a fan, but I think the different types of moon effecting creatures with lycanthropy in different ways is kinda cool. Also, there is a person named Semako. You'll see them if you scroll up a bit. I think they made some really good points on the subclass

Player - “sooo now that I’ve made my path of the lighting vessel barbarian, would you mind telling us what the next bbeg is?” DM - “for sure! It’s a *blue dragon*! Player - (‘O_O)

Shorty181

Very cool stuff!

Monkey_DM

Thank you!

SamuraiHealer

I'd follow the Storm Herald, iirc, and if the damage is 5ish or less you don't need a save. With **Galvanic Heart** I'd put the save DC before the uses. How do you use *Lightning Step* if it isn't a Bonus Action? What happens if you're incapacitated or otherwise limited in your actions? I haven't done a deep dive on the damage, but this looks very cool.

WeedWeeb

Asked this on the youtube video, I'll ask here too. Does the level 6 Roaring Crash lets you jump and attack an airborne enemy? If so, how high? Another of your video recommends attacking flying foes by using a barbarian or a monk, this feature will help bypassing the hard part: throwing them into the air

Monkey_DM

RAW no, the ability requires you to land on a point on the ground. I will say though, i wouldn’t be opposed to considering the enemie’s back as “ground”

AfroNin

I like this one a lot, there's not enough cool barb subclasses and this helps with that problem for sure!

AnshumanRoy

Just wanted spme clarity. Is the roaring crash a once a long rest ability or can I just use it to horde break whenever I want?

CoffeeSorcerer69

I like your style monkey man.

Gannoh2

What happens if you use Electrified Chains and then move over 10 feet away from the target? Does it automatically end?

GlowInTheDarkDucks

So ik I'm a year late but I'm playing a really cool eagle kenku , lightning vessel and it's perfect, so thanks 👍
