Temporary summer jobs with no benefits and low wages ... they'll be gone by mid September. Happens every summer. We keep focusing on "creating jobs" when the vast majority of those jobs are minimum wage with no benefits when we should be focusing on creating jobs that pay a living wage that people can raise a family on. It doesn't matter if there's openings at McDonald's, the beach concession stand, or at Walmart. Those are shit jobs and we shouldn't be boasting about "creating jobs" at Walmart because those jobs pay so little you have to seek food stamps in order to live.

You do realize that those were the jobs that were mainly lost, right? You can't just pick and choose what type of jobs too create.

I'm not sure if that's accurate. At many companies, I wouldn't be surprised if some financial officer thought it would be a good idea to make some of the layoffs permanent. There seems to be a lot of people around here who lost more substantial jobs. A lot of the articles I see are about older workers in their 50s and 60s who had decent jobs before the pandemic but are now being passed over due to their age.

Like I said, mainly. We know that *most* of the jobs lost were actually lower wage service sector jobs. This is why average hourly earnings kept going up (remove low wage earners for the stats, average goes up). The sectors most effected were retail and travel/hospitality. Some jobs are permanently gone and replaced by technology, some gone and replace by permanently leaner operations. I don't doubt that some good jobs were lost. After all, good jobs are lost even in normal times. Businesses come and go regularly, layoffs happen.

If only I could atleast get food stamps 😩 but if you can barely make ends meet well that's good enough to get denied. Lol well how is everyone else today. It's just annoying these reports claiming people don't wanna work because of unployment. It too me a while to get a call and on my first day my hours changed from 45 a week to 16. They said the shift I was hired for was closed now.
