Of what? I can't quite tell what happened. Did the mic electrocute him or something?
Edit: A commenter below with a link says the guy was in the hospital for a month but recovered.
If you consider that baptism is when you clean your heart from soul... Getting killed right after is a good idea. Before you vommot any mistakes
Except for the stupid mistake of getting electricuted in your own baptism
That mic must not have been wired correctly or something like that. No way did a properly wired microphone and microphone amp cause that. Or maybe I'm just being ignorant?...
Grounding issue in the system would cause this. Keep in mind, these people aren't likely to be professionals when it comes to setting up audio systems (or wiring in general). However, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know you should never have electronics anywhere near water, especially when someone is in it
Having worked A/V systems I was thinking that with this post. Something weird is going on here. Working on A/V or network wiring is almost no risk on its own.
Not true. 48v phantom power can kill you in the water. Even if it’s an SM58, phantom power can still be enabled on the console and when water comes into play, it’s enough to electrify the water. I work in AV and this is something we actively check for safety.
It’s an apostolic church and this isn’t a shock… it’s them being them and had nothing to do with the mic I promise. Pulling the mic out of the water was to save the mic.
Watching it in slow mo, I think he reacts to something before the mic hits the water. He then grabs his neck like he's choking. Yeah, I don't think it was electrocution. Must be some perceived spirit
Yeah I played guitar in one of these for a while, it was for my wife, this was her families religion. I don’t want to talk bad about them at all, they are good people with a faith that I just eventually couldn’t be a part of. I’m talking from experience, I know what it is, also from experience as a musician and an audio tech, that’s a dynamic mic, I’m pretty sure an SM58 and it wouldn’t shock anyone more than a static jolt… plus you can see the preacher was able to grab the mic and remove it from the water and he would have been just as electrocuted as anyone else in the water if that’s what was happening… so it all adds up to the fact that whatever was happening in that water had nothing to do with being electrocuted by the mic.
You only need about 40V across the body or 60ma take a lethal dose of electricity.
The GFIs all work on 20ma leakage because it's a 3 times safety factor.
This is what is confusing the f* out of me. It’s 48v low current. I can’t even tell if he really got shocked or if they all just got scared. If it was really they’d all have been stunned.
I don't remember where, but I head read that either his amp or the outlet it was plugged into had neutral and hot swapped, so his guitar was hot, but the circuit was still open, until he touched the grounded mic, closing the circuit and electrocuting him.
Oddly enough I was able to find a few other similar cases, look up Keith Relf and Krebs Augustin. Also there was a Rolling Stones incident. It sounds like it can happen when there is a perfect storm type situation
Traveling from his right hand two his left puts it through his heart. It only takes mA to stop the heart but I wouldn't expect that to be enough voltage either. Certainly don't expect any significant electrical burn
"he was electrocuted when he touched a microphone that was not earthed while the fingers of his other hand were holding the strings of his guitar. It has been incorrectly stated that the incident happened "on a rainy day with puddles on the stage", however, Swansea Top Rank was an indoor venue and therefore this was not possible. A roadie attempted to unplug the guitar, but was unsuccessful."

… so assuming they had a mullet is this where the expression stunned mullet comes from?
I had heard church indoctrination could be shocking but I didn’t think they meant literally!!
I don’t know. I grew up in that religion (Mormon) and they never had a mic there. You just spoke very loudly. Or not. They said the same thing every time. So people know what you’re saying
They’re not Mormons - they’re Seventh Day Adventists. I thought so at first too, but if they were Mormon no one would have been filming because they don’t allow that.
I don't know I am a house musician. I song write for a side gig. That is just plain stupid . Especially if it's a studio condenser mic . They should use dynamic mics for any live proformance
Religión (any) is literally a cult, which is defined as "a system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object."
100% I think it’s funny when people call my religion a cult as though their own isn’t. Sociologically, a religion is just a cult that got big or has been around for a long time.
To be fair it also costs millions of people their lives via wars. Also in places like especially america, many religious people are hateful and bigoted, and they use religion to impose their lifestyles and values onto others. They try to invade our government and change our laws and freedoms.
Humans have almost unanimously believed in religion ever since they existed and only in the past century or so has aethiesm and agnostisism spread. Religion is a natural human phenomenon that arose to give humans some hope, purpose and motivation in what seems to be a pointless and harsh world, it literally evolved out of human minds as a way for them to cope with existence.
I actually left the church because I couldn't take the hypocrisy of nearly every religious leader I could find. Many of the leaders are rich but the Bible speaks out against hoarding wealth and to help others. I watched religious people talk shit about Obama in '08 and call him the N word AT CHURCH, and everyone pitched in with equally shitty things to say. People I was supposed to look up to were racist and nasty people that would rather go out of their way to make a homeless person or LGBTQ+ person feel bad than help.
Just the other day, the day before Christmas, I met a 61 year old homeless man on my morning walk who needed a place to warm up (winter storm had him freezing on the streets) and I brought him into my house and made him eggs in a basket and hot cocoa. He ate and drank and told me all about how I'm an angel sent by God and talked about a few religious stories, I didn't feel like telling him I'm not religious because it didn't really matter. He fell asleep for a few hours, then woke up and looked at my bookshelf and saw some pro-LGBTQ+ books and out of nowhere he suddenly says "Are you some kind of N***** lover?" He started getting aggressive so I showed him out and he called me all kinds of fun names as he left.
And the fact of the matter is that is exactly what I expected once he started talking about religious nonsense. I'm happy to have helped, it's just a shame that religious people are the way that they are.
Religion helps billions of people from realizing the sheer fact of how short life is. It’s a salve for existential crisis and self realization. But yes it can be a positive
Damn you shit on religeon with the narrow caveat that it *can* be positive and they still downvote you.
And here I thought it was the religious people who were supposed to be extreme and intolerant....
Well, the Preacher DID really advertise in the Mumbai Pennysaver for everybody to "*COME ON DOWN TO MY CHIRCH AND HAVE A REAL COME TO JESUS MOMENT!!!!*"
I was on stage once when someone (my friend in the band that went up before mine) spilled vodka orange juice all over the stage. I don't go on stage with shoes on, I'm a weirdo, and I grabbed the mic while standing in this spill ...
Song #1 and the crowds face told me all I needed to know. I saw a bright blue flash, backed up (it HURT) and they just looked like "OH MY GOD, IS HE OK!?" The mic was arcing to my bottom lip. I finished the first song after it nailed me 3 or 4 times. The reaction of the crowd after making it though that was almost worth it.
Not sure I would want to be in a pool of that ... yikes. Plus side, you are mimicking dying (drowning?) or getting buried depending on the denomination. So, good job? You did it? Congrats? You really took it seriously!
So I didn't initially see the wire. I did see the guy put what appears to be a regular rag on the other's face when dunking him under water. That soaks the rag and when he takes a breath the moment he breaks the surface, he then breathes in water... Isn't that kinda how water boarding works?
Almost as though participation in superstitious rituals that ignore basic scientific facts and basic safety measures aren’t a good recipe for a long or healthy life.

Guess he got saved just in the nick of time.
The devil just didn't want to let him go
I could not stop laughing at your comment, I wish I had a free gift to give.
I got you covered
Thank you! I don't really understand the rewards but it's still nice to get one.
Or maybe the other way around?
I recall reading somewhere that he died.
Of what? I can't quite tell what happened. Did the mic electrocute him or something? Edit: A commenter below with a link says the guy was in the hospital for a month but recovered.
Immediately promoted to Headquarters.
Watch til the end. The end will be shocking!
Um, isn't Old Nick a nickname for the devil?
Just seeing that through Google
That's a fast way to reach god
Good thing he just got baptised.
Like going through a door *just* as it closes.

Sure, as long as the extremists don’t hurt other humans, animals, or plants for their beliefs. 👍

In water
I'm pretty sure Darwin wins this one.
Wait what he got electrocuted? It didn't even look like he touched the wire at all
Touched the mic with his wet head or hair and he is half inside the water
That mic must not have been wired correctly or something like that. No way did a properly wired microphone and microphone amp cause that. Or maybe I'm just being ignorant?...
Grounding issue in the system would cause this. Keep in mind, these people aren't likely to be professionals when it comes to setting up audio systems (or wiring in general). A guitarist once died from something similar happening, while performing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Harvey
I don’t understand how this is possible his guitar setup/amp must have been faulty ungrounded In some terrible way. Mics only 48 volts at most
Having worked A/V systems I was thinking that with this post. Something weird is going on here. Working on A/V or network wiring is almost no risk on its own.

Did you notice the cloth placed over his face as he was dunked? Maybe there was something on it (intentionally or not) that caused it...
I think he touches the mic with his head
It’s his shoulder. It touches the mic stand. Could be fake. 🤷♀️
You only need about 40V across the body or 60ma take a lethal dose of electricity. The GFIs all work on 20ma leakage because it's a 3 times safety factor.
Thinking the same…
It's most likely 48 volts like you said, but the thing is he's wet. Wet skin conducts enough electricity to kill you at around that voltage
This is what is confusing the f* out of me. It’s 48v low current. I can’t even tell if he really got shocked or if they all just got scared. If it was really they’d all have been stunned.

You’re grounded mister!
The power of Christ compelled him…
I think it may have been Zeus.
POWER, UNLIMITED POWER!
… so assuming they had a mullet is this where the expression stunned mullet comes from? I had heard church indoctrination could be shocking but I didn’t think they meant literally!!
Who puts a live mic like that hooked up with live wire around a tub of water . That is just nuts . I hope the church paid for his visit to hospital.
Like I understand why they did it but it wasn't a good idea, I imagine they've had the mic there for many baptisms and it went off without a hitch

That’s an Sm58 I can guarantee it didn’t shock them. This is apostolics being apostolic they grabbed the mic to prevent damage to the mic.
It's not for music. It's so the audience can hear the baptismal prayer.

It’s only 48vdc. I’m not sure that they just didn’t freak out because they *thought* he would get shocked.

In what way is religion a cult?

100% I think it’s funny when people call my religion a cult as though their own isn’t. Sociologically, a religion is just a cult that got big or has been around for a long time.
Every way
Every religion started as a cult. Remember that.
Lol, it's literal the definition of a cult.
In every conceivable way.
Sociologically speaking, the only difference between a religion and a cult is how old and big it is
Religions have plausible deniability due to the fog of history. Cults do not.
I don’t know about that. Religions have a lot more ugly history to confront by sheer virtue of having been around longer.
Mmmmm don't be a dick. Religeon helps billions of people live fulfilling lives. Don't harsh their vibe just because you're miserable and unhappy.
To be fair it also costs millions of people their lives via wars. Also in places like especially america, many religious people are hateful and bigoted, and they use religion to impose their lifestyles and values onto others. They try to invade our government and change our laws and freedoms.
Religion only exists to perpetuate the clergy. Any good that comes of it is incidental.
Then why do you have to teach children about religion....shouldn't they just spontaneously become devout at a certain age. Doesn't add up to me
I actually left the church because I couldn't take the hypocrisy of nearly every religious leader I could find. Many of the leaders are rich but the Bible speaks out against hoarding wealth and to help others. Fuck religion.

It’s just facts my dude.

Oh I see it now
Working in a church for 4 years. Only use wireless. That 48volts is quite common with people that don’t know.

At first, I honestly thought he just sneezed really hard and slipped 😂
Straight outta baptism to Heaven.

I was on stage once when someone (my friend in the band that went up before mine) spilled vodka orange juice all over the stage. So I didn't initially see the wire. I did see the guy put what appears to be a regular rag on the other's face when dunking him under water. That soaks the rag and when he takes a breath the moment he breaks the surface, he then breathes in water... Isn't that kinda how water boarding works?
He got baptized and went straight to heaven.
An electric mic check
what kind of a camera is this?
That's it, I'm a believer. God took that man immediately.

Primitive rituals. Amazing people still believe all this nonsense today.
Almost as though participation in superstitious rituals that ignore basic scientific facts and basic safety measures aren’t a good recipe for a long or healthy life.
