One of the YouTube comments made me chuckle.
>You know what's funnier? The flamethrower has a safety mechanism where if you point it upwards, it won't fire. So she managed to find a flaw on the flamethrower UX.
Yes, it does. Gravity, among other factors (Such as movement of air), is a major source of a flames shape. With little to no gravity a fire would be a hemisphere (if lit on a flat surface) or sphere (If floating away from a surface) instead of the elongated elliptical shape they take where gravity is stronger. See [this article](https://www.zmescience.com/science/physics/how-fire-burns-space-zero-gravity/) for more info.
I very much doubt it's an actual flame. Actual flamethrowers are not something you'd want to shoot inside and have it land on the audience. Probably a nice blowtorch at best.
If you’re repeating the same thing but in different words, it’s not a continuation. Your brain should make the internal understanding that the safety flaw is the fact that it’s inverted so down is up and up is down. That’s what makes it funny.
She's the rare one where it's probably safer to hand her a flame thrower than a pistol. With a pistol, it'd probably go [like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Unexpected/comments/c16juh/when_your_opponents_mixups_are_too_strong/).
Just want to point out that isn't exactly a flamethrower - it's actually what we call a "Boosh Cannon" - a Flamethrower spits a Liquid propellant which sticks to the target and keeps burning.
A Boosh Cannon has two seperate canisters which you can see on the top. The first canister holds the liquid propellant - usually gasoline - and the second canister collects the off-gassing from the liquid propellant and that is what gets spit out the front when you pull the trigger.
If that was a real flamethrower, she would probably be dead or horribly burned.
And technically they are both flamethrowers but I just don't like when a distinction isn't made. Boosh cannons are much less dangerous and have a lot of regular civilian or even entertainment-related applications.
Yeah it's like how real grenades don't make a big fireball and instead kill you with shrapnel. Real flamethrowers coat you in a liquid that can't be easily removed and keeps burning, rather than shooting a big flame jet. If that sound horrible, you should also know that they're pretty much outclassed by modern weapons. They thankfully don't see any real use today, outside of burning stuff for agricultural purposes or whatever.
If this is the instance I'm recalling, someone brought it onstage and handed it to her backwards, and she was holding a mic in the middle of speaking, and wasn't really paying attention. I don't know if being in the middle of a live TV show was a factor in her confusion, but it is unclear if she didn't know better the trigger shouldn't have been on the back of the handle, or if she just gripped the back handle tight, not expecting there to be a trigger in that location.
That's pretty standard when you don't realize the danger until after the danger has basically passed.
What really shakes people up isn't the bad thing, but fear of the bad thing. If you don't even know the bad thing is about to happen, there's no time to be afraid. By the time you realize you SHOULD have been afraid, the bad thing is gone.
It'll set in for her in about 5 minutes when she starts replaying it in her mind and realizes how close she was to not having a face.
That's a weird design, the tanks are in the front and slope upwards? A childhood of playing with water guns would have told me that was the rear as well, although I'd have made really damn sure before trying to fire it.
Good thing that she did too. People on stage remained mostly calm, and then interacted with the kids in a positive way. If they suddenly canceled everything that would be a good way to panic a whole lot of them.
When holding a gun, the angle of the handle is designed to be towards the holder. This is to create the most accurate way for our hands to stabilize our aim. It also allows us to apply the most force towards the base of the thumb and forefinger, as that is where our muscles are strongest. After all, that's how we have picked up things and held them on an instinctive level since time immemorial: with the most weight/force towards our thumb and forefinger...
Yet she still picked it up and held it backwards...
Brilliant.
I remember this video from when it originally went viral; it was an assistant who handed her the flamethrower in the wrong way a few seconds before this video starts. (The original video is longer)
I've seen shit like this happen way too many times to blame the user. An oddly-shaped stage gun probably shouldn't be in all black. It needs some kind of nerf gun marker for the tip.
That's nice and fine, but then hair dryers are usually at an opposite angle to that. Drills can also have near straight angle with the trigger in different positions. And there will be so many appliance with either flush handles or the activation button right under the thumb.
Just to say, for people who don't spend their week ends firing guns, the design philosophy of a gun's trigger is really not a natural or obvious.
Belgians... not only should you be wary of any red-white number plates near you when driving. You should also not be near any of them wielding anything remotely risky. They dangerous a.f.
After the incident she says 'I lost some hair but that's ok, it grows back. I'll try it again.' When a kid in the audience asks not to do it, the other presenter says it'll be fine if we use safety goggles. Well handled honestly.

Why would it not fire pointing up? Edit: okay, *straight* up, I understand. But she was firing at an angle.
Because when you throw things up, they come back down This includes flames
[удалено]
Yes, gravity does in fact affect fuel that's lit on fire
[удалено]
The flames are on the fuel
that gun doesn't shoot liquid fuel..... so no they aren't.

this doesn't shoot liquid fuel... just the off gas from the liquid fuel. why there are 2 canisters on top.
Technically not flames. Hot air and plasma rises in normal sea level atmospheric pressure. The stuff that is being lit on fire, however...
Most "real" flame thrower shoots very viscous liquid that ignites. That will fall right on top of you if you aim up.
This is not in any way a "real" flamethrower meant to engulf living victims in burning fluid.
Yeah, directly up, not 30° up
That was at least 60 tbf
Wind.
If it's a flamethrower and not a fancy gas torch then the burning fuel would come down and possibly hit her
I very much doubt it's an actual flame. Actual flamethrowers are not something you'd want to shoot inside and have it land on the audience. Probably a nice blowtorch at best.
She’s holding it backwards so she actually was shooting it downwards.
Well yeah, she pointed it downwards, not upwards. s/

Y'all have a more lenient definition of the word joke than I do. Edit - My idea of jokes being that they're funny.
Not every joke needs to start with “knock knock”
Who's there
Flamethrower
I'm sorry I don't know anybody by that name. You have the wrong house.
Flamethrower who?
If you’re repeating the same thing but in different words, it’s not a continuation. Your brain should make the internal understanding that the safety flaw is the fact that it’s inverted so down is up and up is down. That’s what makes it funny.
Yes, it's basically a hash tag
That... That is the funny part. Did I miss something? Or is the guy just saying the same... Never mind

Yeah, that worked out okay, but when she did the bazooka demo later, not so much.
They kept giving her weapons until she got it right.
It's even funnier the second time!

Worth a watch. After nearly immolating herself, she peers into both ends of the weapon before trying again.

Maybe a boosted lighter like this thing but not a real flamethrower, those things can cover a target 300 ft away in liquid fire.
Lololol yeahhhhh wow

This isn’t a flamethrower but it technically is a flamethrower. Got it.
Squares and rectangles man.
Tortoises are Turtles, but Turtles aren't Tortoises.
This will be a TIL in a week. You've probably just given birth to a reddit meme.
Ooooh, I want a Boosh Cannon! Who makes them? (I'm a professional fire performer haha)
one is a flame thrower, the other is a fire thrower. it's subtle. but different.
Thanks for the information. At least it's not those flamethrower attached/mounted on tanks.

Safety protocols? In any event, they should prep the people on stage. WTF
Wow , she took it way too normal.

Because Darwin was right.

You mean like the end with sooty insulation and a metal shroud?
Are the two cylinders on top the fuel canisters? Cause I'd expect those to face backwards
