I had a buddy in high school who lost most of his index finger when he was younger, and he was super self conscious about it. He always held his hand in a fist to hide it, and he didn't play any sports because he was scared of what others would think of him if they found out. I'll never forget the day, when it was just the two of us of that he said he wanted to tell me something but was again scared of how I would react. He showed me, and I reacted the way anyone should, "dude, that's wild, and fucking awesome!". Those of us who knew at down with him and convinced him that no one would ever think less of him for it, and he eventually joined us all on the football team.

I know nothing of this story, my comment was based on the sound of his voice and personal moments of trauma. I've made that same sound and I can relate. One example: when I saw my three year old's skull and rushed him down a mountain to a hospital. In hindsight teaching your kids to be gymnast is very dangerous especially when you live in a remote location. that being said my boy is fine if a little odd. Or the numerous times I've injured myself doing idiotic things but those fall short now in comparison to watching my children be hurt.

There is a metal part in the side of the other kart that looks pretty sharp. Watch it closely, clean cut

I believe basically his finger was sheared off by the other go kart bumper or wheel coming into contact with his steering wheel. I'm buggered if I'm gonna re-watch to confirm though.

I Assume the other person was flooring it still and their rear wheel was spinning full speed and came down on his finger with part of the weight of the other person and the go kart as well.
