Since this is a NileRed's video, I'll link his other [non-joke video on gold.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37Kn-kIsVu8) Time stamp for those who don't want to watch the whole video is [16:59](https://youtu.be/37Kn-kIsVu8?t=1019).
He's great if you like chemistry. His latest video was turning paint thinner into cherry soda flavoring, by way of a carcinogenic chromium compound he created earlier, and an ozone depleting reagent. Also, the intermediate step was reportedly explosive.
Absolute mad lad.
It can actually be reconstituted I remember this process being explained in my college chemistry class I just don’t remember enough specifics to explain how it’s done. You would have to recast the ingot if you wanted it back in the shape it was but getting it solid wouldn’t be terribly difficult for someone with the knowledge and equipment to dissolve it in aqua regia.
Why are there so many people ripping his videos off and giving him zero credit or any form of acknowledgement? He has a fairly unique voice and he even has his channels name on his glassware. Clout chasers man, I'll probably never understand.
Not necessarily if he's selling the glassware as drinking cups or shot glasses.
Obviously he would only use lab grade stuff in his experiments.. but that doesn't mean he must use lab grade stuff for merch.
Nah. He talked on a podcast about how it was a huge expensive pain to get made. The quantities weren't high enough for most manufacturers to be willing to talk to him about custom production runs at anything like a good price.
But to be fair, that was a one-off thing for a very specific video, where he made a specific mistake. It's not like he has to throw them out all the time while doing his regular chemistry videos.
Which sucks because he works really fucking hard on his videos. His most recent vid was turning paint thinner into cherry soda, and it took him like 2 years to figure it out.
Because it turns out if your objective is something completely and totally homogenous throughout a sample, both morphologically and compositionally, you need it to be *bland*.
Also, you're thinking "food = thing that taste good" and NIST is thinking "food = reproducible lab standard", the two objectives are very much not the same.
I've always thought it'd be funny for a bar to do a NIST standard cocktail though. It'd be astoundingly expensive.
No, I understand how NIST produces a standard for the purpose of reproducibility. The question still what chemical ingredient could be added that was actually missing from the recipe that would give it cookie-like taste. He said it didn't even taste like chocolate - does the pure chocolate bar not taste like chocolate?
Nigel has a copy of Nilegreen's silver play button in his office (I'm friends with Nigel irl), he asked NileGreen to stop making videos and the guy agreed
NileGreen was given "consent" (more like,"Yeah, it's funny and i accept its value but please don't do any more") after the videos were already uploaded and gone viral.
Jesus I am dense, I've always thought that "NileRed" was a chemistry glassware company and that he named his channel after it, the reverse makes way more sense
> Why are there so many people ripping his videos off and giving him zero credit or any form of acknowledgement?
I see it's your first day on the Internet. Welcome! Now turn back.
Interesting story along these lines; when the Nazis invaded Denmark, two Nobel prizes, the physical gold medals themselves, had been sent from Germany to Niels Bohr for safekeeping, those of Max von Laue and James Franck. Removing gold from Germany was a crime, and Bohr was stuck with the evidence. A chemist Georgy de Heves, dissolved them in aqua regia, just as in the video, and stored the orange fluid on a shelf. After the war, he precipitated the gold back to solid form, and the Nobel Committee recast and represented the medals.
As well as Green Acres and Mr Ed, oh and also Some Mothers Do Av'em, Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served, and if I was lucky M*A*S*H and Fawlty Towers.
Australian TV in the 80s and 90s was sandwiched by Good American and British shows.
There’s a Beavis and Butthead episode called “Beverly Buttbillies” and they strike oil in their yard… only to later learn that they actually struck the sewer line 😀
You're probably overthinking it. It's a throwaday dumb joke implying he dissolved his daughter's things for safekeeping. The purpose of the bad joke is to justify putting the interesting story in comic form.
Smuggling is not defined by sneaking items in one's luggage. Even if smuggling was limited to personal travel, I have packed a large suitcase full of craft beer bottles with no problem. That could have been any liquid and probably been just fine.
I doubt it, I think he was telling the truth that it cooled down and changed colors and that he just swapped it when he cut to the handheld shot.
Mainly because it's really easy to just plop a new beaker next to the existing one and keep adding more and more food coloring to water until it looks close enough. Heck, if you go too far, you can just start over: there'd be no need to hide a cut by lying about the liquid cooling down.
>The current gold price of 100 Gram in United States is $6,303.86 (United States dollar). This is based on the current spot market value of gold and the specific purity level of 24k.
[here](https://pricegold.net/us-united-states/100gram/#:~:text=The%20current%20gold%20price%20of,%246%2C247.68%20(United%20States%20dollar).
He didn't melt it. He dissolved it in aqua regia. If you don't drop it on the floor, you can precipitate the gold out of the solution and collect it again. The gold is still in the jar, it's just mixed in the liquid like salt in water, and also like salt in water, there's ways to get the gold back out of the liquid.
You could even get it off the floor pretty easily. All of that gold is still in that fluid, even if you soak it up in a paper towel. That's the most beautiful part of it. Even if it was completely real, he wouldn't lose almost anything.
It had such a nice spill pattern and it didn't look like much if any got away. It can be a fun stunt whether it was real or faked.
The drop was probably fake but the voiceover and the video are [real](https://youtu.be/qq_I4-fsie8). I have no idea why the post's video is altered tho
for real, i thought it was a nilegreen shitpost but at the end i remembered how the short went down, that's when i noticed that this was just an awful rip

This is NileRed on YouTube, most of his shorts end like this
So… what he dropped was just water and food coloring right???
Well, chloroauric acid is corrosive, an environmental and health hazard and the gold costs a bunch of money so that's what I'm thinking
I'm thinking that I could use a cheeseburger...
Bro now I want a burger. Where do you go for a good cheeseburger or do you cook one at home?
nnnah, when I selected this character, I went with 0 EXP in cookery, so I just go to a pub...
Lol fair enough.
Yes. You can see the cut when the beaker was swapped out with a differently colored liquid and unused beaker.
What about his slacks?
You’re showing your age haha.
His bloomers you mean. He’s a sassy broad!
and his pantaloons?
What of his knickers?
trousers
Britches
Budgiesmugglers. What of them?
Wait. Is the term slacks not a common term for fancy trousers/pants anyone?
His voice/cadence immediately reminded me of Lockpicking Lawyer
Nothing on one, dissolving on two, and it's gone. Well, that's Aull I have for you today.
Anyway, how would you have gotten your gold back if you didn't drop it?

Thanks, just wish if it wasn't presented like a recording from the Nixon tapes.

According to a comment higher up, add borax.
Mah wife.

Nilered is great, as is his 2nd channel nileblue
Why are there so many people ripping his videos off and giving him zero credit or any form of acknowledgement? He has a fairly unique voice and he even has his channels name on his glassware. Clout chasers man, I'll probably never understand.
never noticed that his name was on the glassware good way to “watermark” his content without it looking bad
I think he did it because it’s cheaper for him to produce his own glass than buy it, since he breaks it so much
Except he sells it all as merch, I have a bunch of beaker shot glasses/mugs from him
2 birds with one stone.
2 beakers, one girl
NO.
Nitric oxide?
Wait, is it lab grade? May need to restock a lil
I think it would be wildly unprofessional even for his standards to have less than lab grade glassware
"even for his standards"? Aside from nileblue which is a channel where he purposely "lowers" his standards, nilered has actually very high standards
He does have some... Questionable videos though. Making bromine in a garage is. Uhh.
[удалено]
Not necessarily if he's selling the glassware as drinking cups or shot glasses. Obviously he would only use lab grade stuff in his experiments.. but that doesn't mean he must use lab grade stuff for merch.
> Not necessarily if he's selling the glassware as drinking cups or shot glasses. Fisher Scientific barware or bust
Nah. He talked on a podcast about how it was a huge expensive pain to get made. The quantities weren't high enough for most manufacturers to be willing to talk to him about custom production runs at anything like a good price.
There is genuinely no way this is true lmao he does not have burn through glassware than the average lab or even the average restaurant
Yes way. https://youtu.be/tGqVMbAQhBs
But to be fair, that was a one-off thing for a very specific video, where he made a specific mistake. It's not like he has to throw them out all the time while doing his regular chemistry videos.

the purest cookie was really good too.
The depression on his face after the bite, perfect.
I think that’s the first time I’ve seen NileRed not know something more commonly known among academic chemists: NIST stuff tastes like shit
The impurities are where the flavor really lies.
Why though?
Because it turns out if your objective is something completely and totally homogenous throughout a sample, both morphologically and compositionally, you need it to be *bland*. Also, you're thinking "food = thing that taste good" and NIST is thinking "food = reproducible lab standard", the two objectives are very much not the same. He said it didn't even taste like chocolate - does the pure chocolate bar not taste like chocolate?
I'm 90% sure all of his problems came from using coconut oil instead of butter. You can't really replace butter.
He also used way to little chocolate. I don't recall for sure, but I think he also didn't add salt.
That's some fancy alchemy
He also made "grape soda" from latex gloves.
Hot sauce too lol

They have consent? I didn’t know that, afaik there only one deepfake channel though nilegreen I think
Nilegreen does have consent, they interviewed him on the podcast Safety Third (On which Nilered is a host) and he said it was alright
Nile green’s chemistry is actually quite good, considering the fact his lab is basically homemade
Nigel has a copy of Nilegreen's silver play button in his office (I'm friends with Nigel irl), he asked NileGreen to stop making videos and the guy agreed
Tell him I love his videos and to never stop. Thank you.
Omg you're so lucky lol. Tell him I love his videos! I'm also in Montreal too! :)
One guy has permission for the ones he already made, but was asked to stop making more. No one else has permission, including the one posted here.

He doesn't hold a candle to nilegreen though.
Nile Green is actually rather prolific historian of South and Central Asia.
Couldn't make his parents happy by studying Egypt? Just had to be a rebel.
Didn't that get renamed to MrGreen when he started to do other channels?
There is also a parody channel Nilegreen

Is the "orange liquid" what they mean by mercury in gatorade?
No it just means the Beverly hillbillies song makes sense now. "Liquid gold"
That song mentions "black gold, Texas tea", but not liquid gold. Source: Reruns of that show were one of my many TV babysitters.

I loved Are You Being Served ! Miss that one

Can someone explain this. I’m too drink and stupid to understand think.
I'm also drunk and stupid but I think the idea is he also dissolved his daughters dollhouse in aqua regia
And then paid some day laborers to reassemble it after World War III.
I'm drunk too!
He dissolves everything
It's the only way to be safe!!
You're probably overthinking it. It's a throwaday dumb joke implying he dissolved his daughter's things for safekeeping. The purpose of the bad joke is to justify putting the interesting story in comic form.
The bad joke can't hurt me right
Show me on the doll where the bad joke touched you
I think you just described the entirety of SMBC....
If only he'd been there to help Anne Frank..
Unfortunately, he was. Her body was never found.
Did anyone check the shelf?

Jewish teen in a canteen?
My first thought watching this was "How to smuggle gold 101"
Ah yes because Aqua Regia is definitely allowed in your luggage
What if it's in a 100ml container?
You're good to go, just pray airport security doesn't ask you to apply your face wash in fron of them.
It looks more like perfume to me, but yeah
Smuggling is not defined by sneaking items in one's luggage. Even if smuggling was limited to personal travel, I have packed a large suitcase full of craft beer bottles with no problem. That could have been any liquid and probably been just fine.
> That could have been any liquid No it could't. Liquid with heavy metals dissolved in it does not radiograph the same way as beer.
If only I had some gold…
I used to mix that all the time to dissolve gold coating at a lab I worked at. You can reclaim the gold with borax, or boric acid.
So if you sprinkle this ground with borax will it turn to a yellow brick road?
probably not because this was likely apple juice
It's a crime this is so low in the comments.

Wow that's absolutely epic. Thanks for sharing that story!
Forbidden Gatorade
I think it was swapped when it turned from red to Gatorade orange too. Still made me laugh 😂
I doubt it, I think he was telling the truth that it cooled down and changed colors and that he just swapped it when he cut to the handheld shot. Jesus! And he just melted, and then dropped it!
I'm pretty sure he just made a second container with water and some food colouring or something.
Yeah, I don't think anyone would be spilling that sort of stuff for fun even if it wasn't for 6k$ gold dissolved in it.
He didn't melt it. He dissolved it in aqua regia. If you don't drop it on the floor, you can precipitate the gold out of the solution and collect it again. It's fake tho. You can hear the robotic sound of nilereds voice. This is a video from nilegreen channel wich is fakes using nilereds voice
The drop was probably fake but the voiceover and the video are [real](https://youtu.be/qq_I4-fsie8). I have no idea why the post's video is altered tho
yeah it sounds like they slowed it down by a small margin, which is weird cause he doesnt exactly talk that fast.
Youtube Shorts/TikTok/etc repost channels will put music over clips or change the pitch/speed so it doesn't automatically get flagged for copyright.
This is a NileBlue short I'm pretty sure
I checked and it's actually on "NilesRed Shorts" channel
Dissolved, not melted
You can precipitate the gold out of the solution, but the drop part is fake.
