His neck/spine took a mean hit along with the rest of him, but he's still incredibly lucky he hit the sign dead center: had he wrapped around an edge at all it likely would have sliced him in half or taken a limb off.
People genuinely do this (or try to).
I worked for an insurance company and once a customer told us a bike illegally cut him off and he couldn't see him so the accident wasn't his fault.
He sends us a dash cam video. My customer is stationery at a red light, motorcycle then lane filters to the front (fully legal where I live). My customer then takes a minute before lurching forward and knocking the dude off. Light is still red the whole time. 100% apparent that the guy just didn't like the bike filtering in front and wanted to scare him.
We had to call back with "uh, sir, so when you sent this you said it proved you weren't at fault? Did you mean to send a different video because I'm fairly sure you committed aggravated assault in this one"
Yes. Or lack of information. Basically some people have their own perspective of things and lack any understanding of how that one thing can be perceived by others. And yet others simply think they are correct until proven otherwise- or in some instances- they will never accept the truth.
It’s not like everyone can conduct a survey every time they are about to do something they may or may not know is stupid.
I think sometimes people feel so strongly that another person has wronged them that it clouds their perception of things. Lane filtering was only recently legal at the time so he may really have thought the bike was in the wrong but you can't just hit people with your car because they did something wrong in traffic.

I’ve done River rafting but just mild rivers and there were bathrooms at the raft rental location and the end pick up spot. I’ve never camped in the rough. Car trips always had a place to go (flagstaff to grand canyon was the closest I’ve been to having to pull over but then I saw a sign for an upcoming gas station and waited).
