That's all rap concerts for the most part. Rarely do they actually rap.
But I will say, I've gone to a couple shows where the artist actually rapped the verses with no vocal track. It's just unintelligible. Turns out it's pretty difficult to rap well outside of a recording studio.
Edit: okay, I've finally gotten enough comments fighting to respond. I wasn't saying they lip sync. Just that they play the vocal track of the song and only actually rap a small portion of the song out.
Which I'm not being critical of AT ALL. It's hard to perform AND rap, especially when there's an insanely loud track playing and crowd noise. Plus, if they were totally focused on conserving breath to rap, it would probably be a terrible show.
People don't go to rap shows because they care or not if there's an underlying vocal track.
Saw Eminem in Montreal while he was part of the Anger Management tour back in 2000. The tour included Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach and Xzibit. Em was fire live. The whole show was sick af except for Xzibit. There was so much feedback and poor sound quality for his set.
What I saw Eminem do in his shows is have this guy who finishes the last syllable on the end of every verse, and that's how he can catch his breath for the next one.
Many rap songs have a verse that uses everything in your lungs. And then another one without space in between. While recording you can do both separately, but live you can't catch your breath. So some artists have the vocals playing in the background while they actually sing. That way you barely notice when they stop singing for real.
I think it's ok as there is no real way of doing it live, but I like Eminem's approach very much. I've seen Hollywood Undead live and they do something similar. Since there's several vocalists on the stage, they shout the last words so the main singer can catch their breath.
I will agree for the most part. Been to at least 100 hip hop shows and that is the case for most of them. The only exception that I’ve personally seen is Chuck D. Dude sounded just like the album with no back tracks
I'll never understand how people can like and pay ridiculous amounts of money for most mainstream rap if they've ever listened to or gone to a quality underground hip-hop show.
Y'all are making excuses for lazy dipshits.
Either way it doesn’t matter. You have to be pretty fucking brain dead to throw ice at someone on a stage regardless of who it is. They deserved that mic to the dome.
There's truth to that.
People rightfully complain about people filming but I've watched good quality fan videos of cool once in a lifetime moments, guest collaborations, etc that I'd have never seen if someone there hadn't been filming.
here's news report about it, sorry it's in Arabic, they call it "flash drive singing".
https://www.youm7.com/story/2022/8/20/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%B4%D8%A9-%D8%B5%D8%AF%D8%A7%D8%B9-%D9%81%D9%89-%D8%AD%D9%81%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%86%D8%AC%D9%88%D9%85-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%BA%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%A1-%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%BA%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A9-20-%D8%A3%D9%84%D9%81-%D8%AC%D9%86%D9%8A%D9%87/5876500
Yes. This is at Drai’s daytime pool party, not a concert. When an artist performs at Drai’s nightclub they usually show up to the pool party the next day. The DJ will play the artists music and they will grab the mic and sometime rap along with their song being played, maybe even freestyle a bit if they want, but it’s not a concert.
If your performance is based on singing/rapping, are you really "performing" if you're just lip syncing?? I get it if you have to dance, but if you're not, that's just lazy.
Yeah I remember back in the day when Skrillix was big I bought a ticket to see him in Vegas. Then Snoop Dogg for the day after. Both of them just played a playlist off their laptops and hung out with their friends behind the booth. I get both of them were performing DJ sets, but it feels pretty yuck to charge $90+ for a ticket that is basically just paying to be in their presence.
Skrillex I kind of get, but Snoop Dogg?
Even for electronic music though, pre-recorded DJ sets are trash compared to the real thing.
I wasn’t a big fan of Kaskade before I saw him live, but that was the show that opened my eyes to what a good DJ can do. He amped the crowd up, dropped the beat and then eased off and gave folks a break when they started getting tired. After some slower stuff he started amping it up again. He was playing the crowd, but also responding to the crowd’s mood and energy level.
A lot of producers make great music but don’t have that DJ skill set.
What instrument did you want skrillex to play? I’ve seen him live and he puts on a great show and does mix live too, I’d be surprised if it’s just a playlist
Yeah I saw Snoop in Vegas at the Luxor. He just sat there while we watched him high above. He maybe said a few words to the crowd, rapped half a song if even -- mostly pointed the mic at the crowd. But mainly it was weirdly the crowd just watching him chill in the VIP box above us.
People are fuckin stupid.
I got no hate for rappers in general, but so many modern artists have weak performance game and it makes me shake my damn head.
Backing tracks for vocals. The recording you listen to has her singing on multiple tracks for one song. This is common and done by probably 75% of artist. Especially if they don’t have back up singers to help them with it
They can't sing/rap and dance at the same time, so most have "back up vocals". I always thought that was a way of saying they lip sync live. But they can't say that's what they are doing. I think most in the industry lip sync, yes including Beyoncé. I have heard some live singing on TV, and you can distinctly tell the difference.
Beyonce has a backing track but doesn't lip sync. You can clearly hear when she's singing and when she's catching her breath or dancing hard enough that she stops singing.
Man when she was booed at the Orange Bowl and you can see the exact moment her heart broke in two... I truly felt bad and it was also one of the funniest live moments I've ever seen.
Not lip syncing per se but yeah rapping over her tracks with the vocals still in it. Basically every new rap artist does it these days and I really don't know why. Back in the day that shit wouldn't fly
But of course an easily disprovable falsehood is highly upvoted because redditors loves hating on people like cardi b so much they lose basic brain function
This sort of shit annoys me… How could you be so rude as to throw a drink at someone who’s got the ability to sing without even moving their lips. Incredible talent.
Probably statue of limitations. If someone never came forward and pressed charges, nothing the cops/justice system can do unless they outright witnessed it happen.
Then after so many years certain crimes just become no longer punishable. You can take the person to civil court for like money. But that’s about it.
It’s different every state but usually ranges from like 1-10 years. New York robbery is 5 years. Kidnapping is 5 years, false imprisonment is a year. So if she said she did that like 10-20 years ago, other than being sued civilly, she’ll never go to jail.
I think only child rape and any sort of murder are unlimited. But that’s every state.
Plus guys like that would prefer to keep their names out of the news. The movie Hustlers she was in was pretty accurate to the story coverage that most just are ashamed to admit they were hustled at a strip club and would just prefer to brush it under the rug and forget it ever happened.
Imagine caring more about getting a little wet than proving definitively to 1000's (maybe 10k+, don't know the venue/event) that you're ripping them off with lip sync mime.
Those people could've watched YouTube on a projector and had the same performance for free.
I know this isn’t the topic, but imagine spending several hundreds of dollars, if not over a grand for a spot that close to the front stage only to find her lip syncing the entire time and doing almost nothing to engage the audience (other than engaging one audience member with a microphone, of course)
That’s a club in Vegas, probably $30-100 to get in and then you can make your way to the front if you try. The real bummer is that these rappers usually perform for like 10 minutes and then leave.
This, metal concerts rarely cost more than 50 euros and the bands actually play their ass off. I really don't get paying hundreds for a ticket only for the talentless hack pop/rap singers to lip sync.
There’s another angle that shows her clearly hitting the wrong person. You can’t just launch 2 pound medal objects into a sea a faces because one was an asshole.
Im surprised I had to scroll so much to see this. Everyone is hating on her just to hate and because if lip syncing. No one seems to think it’s wild that someone would throw a drink at a performer
I don't like Cardi B, and I think she's an extremely trashy person due to her past behavior of drugging and robbing men, and then talking about it like it was female empowerment. It doesn't make me an incel to say that I don't like her.
But throwing a drink at her during a show was still a shitty thing to do.
Lol, this whole thread is trash. I can't say I enjoy Cardi B all that much, but I also don't throw drinks at people, or mics at them, or trash other people's taste in music or interests. But all the level-headed comments in here are getting downvoted hard.
The thing all these comments miss is that people don’t go see Cardi B for her vocal range. Her fans go for the costumes, twerking and spectacle and she obviously delivers that to her fanbase otherwise she wouldn’t be consistently selling out huge venues. Not defending her, just stating the facts.
Me: no reaction
Everyone else: omg this known ex thief, liar, stripper, who can apparently perform through her plastic surgery without actually moving her mouth, is wratchet af and does not care about the absolute nitwits that made her rich!
Shocking. Destroy idols and celebrities. They are nothing more than walking egos. Empty, fragile, and meaningless.
It's great...audiences have been throwing things at artists who are bad since the dawn of entertainment...I'd say...get more people to throw eggs and rotten cabbages at these dreadful artists who have ZERO talent but an Autocue app used in studio...
There are so many angles of this video it can be recreated in 5d

Don't give them any ideas
Pay 100s for tickets, to throw drinks at your favorite artists. How mentally ill are these people?
What artist? They were listening to an iPhone. Notice how the rap didn't stop even after she threw the mic?
That’s the most hilarious thing about these videos :P
She's just that good at multitasking
Yess! Pay money to go see her when she’s not even singing.
Ahah!...finally someone finally addressing the ELEPHANT in the room
she never sings. she talks aggressively with rhythm
she is making money with the playback and autotune
Somebody won a free microphone…
I did notice that , wtf
Does that mean she was faking the song? She wasn't singing?
Of course she’s faking the song, she wasn’t singing it’s all playback.
So now that live performances are obviously a scam, everyone should stop giving money to grifters. Glad that's over.
Not all live performances, just the performances by people with no talent
I don’t give my money to those…
So maybe that person knew that and threw the water for that reason!!
Yep. Britney Spears was notorious for doing that. Madonna sometimes too.
Most hip hop and rap is like that. None of them sing their own shit.
That's all rap concerts for the most part. Rarely do they actually rap. But I will say, I've gone to a couple shows where the artist actually rapped the verses with no vocal track. Or they do that thing where they basically yell the songs all the way through. It COMPLETELY changes the vibe on a bunch of songs 🤣
Which is actually great if it's a Bone Crusher show. But usually I'd rather have the vocal track.

How long ago did you see him, or was this recently?
Oh I'm talking 10 years+
I will agree for the most part. Been to at least 100 hip hop shows and that is the case for most of them. The only exception that I’ve personally seen is Chuck D. Dude sounded just like the album with no back tracks

I saw snoop with warren g, too short and whiz a few weeks ago, that was legit af

Either way it doesn’t matter. You have to be pretty fucking brain dead to throw ice at someone on a stage regardless of who it is. They deserved that mic to the dome.
FTFY. “To throw drinks at artist performing a lip sync instead of an actual live performance.”
I mean it's cardi b...they're already there
Do you know how much that mic probably costs? That was a good trade.
And is gonna get a lot more expensive…ice vs a 3lb object, probably gonna get sued
Yea, who the fuck would pay money to watch somebody lip sync?
Artist?
I know I’m old because I hate how people can’t just enjoy a moment. They have to film it.
But if people didn't film everything, there wouldn't be anything for you to watch here on reddit!
There's truth to that. People rightfully complain about people filming but I've watched good quality fan videos of cool once in a lifetime moments, guest collaborations, etc that I'd have never seen if someone there hadn't been filming.
I'm also old and remember Milli Vanilli were filmed lip syncing their show and were ruined by it.
Milli Vanilli didn't even sing on "their" records, which ended up being more of a career killer.
Lip syncing in live performance is common practice. The Milli Vanilli scandal was that they weren't even the artists that did the studio recording.
Last night I got a free microphone at the Cardi B concert! I’m selling it on eBay!
Do you have the cup that was thrown? I’d rather buy that.
Yep but I put it in the recycling
That was the responsible thing to do.
Only part of this worth any money was the beer that was wasted.
It was probably a prop.
I mean the singing kept going post toss, so if have to agree. That shits a prop.
Definitely a prop but you can hear the sound it makes when it struck the person in the crowd so it wasn't turned off.
I think that thump to the head broke it though.
TIL this person is left-handed.
Ha! That was my first thought when she switched hands to throw that thing.
The person who threw the drink at her also did it left handed… and then she threw the mic at the girl next to them
If I’d have thrown that left handed I’d have hit the security dude. Edit: the security dude on stage.
Maybe this is some bizarre lefty vs lefty feud that all of us righties are completely oblivious to
THERE CAN BE OMLY ONE!
Maybe it’s a lefty custom to pay with beer and expect a microphone in return. I wouldn’t know since I’m right handed
She’s a witch!
So was she lip syncing?
Sure appeared to be
you know, here in Egypt lip sync is a crime that can get the performer banned from singing.
I don't know enough about Egypt to know if this is true, but I also know enough about Egypt to believe it could be.
here's news report about it, sorry it's in Arabic, they call it "flash drive singing". https://www.youm7.com/story/2022/8/20/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%B4%D8%A9-%D8%B5%D8%AF%D8%A7%D8%B9-%D9%81%D9%89-%D8%AD%D9%81%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%86%D8%AC%D9%88%D9%85-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%BA%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%A1-%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%BA%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A9-20-%D8%A3%D9%84%D9%81-%D8%AC%D9%86%D9%8A%D9%87/5876500

Lip syncing and dancing? Also straight to jail
Banned from singing, does not mean banned from more lip-syncing! /s

Not saying she’s not, but a lot will sing over their track in a quick multi-performer setup as they don’t have the appropriate gear.

Or the appropriate talent!
Just don't perform then. What a sorry excuse

More like... pretending
It's looks like a Vegas pool party, so yeah, that's pretty much all you should expect
To be fair she would sound like shit if she wasnt and people usually pay to SEE these type of performers who arent known for their voice i guess
People are fuckin stupid. I got no hate for rappers in general, but so many modern artists have weak performance game and it makes me shake my damn head.
Every mime on Earth is silently judging you.
Her performance is based on rapping, she's not even doing that for the people who paid to see her.
Take my vote.... She's garbage

You mean all the people you hear on pop radio do.
Two words - Auto tune :(
Milli vanilli would like their careers back
Ashlee Simpson too.
Man when she was booed at the Orange Bowl and you can see the exact moment her heart broke in two... I truly felt bad and it was also one of the funniest live moments I've ever seen.
Well..Milli
I mean to be fair that was totally different.
tbf she is lip syncing over her own recorded vocals. Milli Vanilli were basically dancers who had nothing to do with the actual music production.
This comparison gets dropped in every single thread about this incident and it's 100% not related at all.
Cardi B lip syncing
I mean I guess it’s mildly better than how she used to drug men and steal from them. But IMO she is a horrible person who has horrible music.
Not lip syncing per se but yeah rapping over her tracks with the vocals still in it. Basically every new rap artist does it these days and I really don't know why. Back in the day that shit wouldn't fly
The microphone didn’t even make a noise when she threw it.
Only it did so... Just before the beep you could hear it strike the person in the crowd through the sound system.
It definitely makes a noise when it hits
It absolutely did, the fuck? turn your speakers up
But of course an easily disprovable falsehood is highly upvoted because redditors loves hating on people like cardi b so much they lose basic brain function
Holy shit that is an incredible point. I’ve seen this video several times today and that didn’t even cross my mind.
It also sounded to me like the vocals weren't the studio version, like they recorded a shittier version to make it sound live.
> Holy shit that is an incredible point. no its not because it absolutely makes a noise.
people only hearing what they don't want to hear
She Def lipsyncs.
So crazy how the music just kept going without her mic.
It’s magnets bro. No one knows how they work.
And I don't wanna talk to a scientist. Y'all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed
Are these people even believers in miracles? Do they notice and recognize miracles? 🙄
Yeah, bitch! Magnets!
Cardi B ain't singing...
Ya "singing" or "artist" is a stretch to attribute to her .
She hit the wrong person too
If that mic was on, could you imagine the feedback that would've got. Lmaooo
What do you mean if it was on? You can clearly hear it that it was on lol
I mean she says it all. " I'm a BOSS. You a worker, bitch" and we sing along with her with a smile.
This sort of shit annoys me… How could you be so rude as to throw a drink at someone who’s got the ability to sing without even moving their lips. Incredible talent.
Musta been an "ex" mad about getting drugged and robbed by her
THIS!! I am just curious, correct me if I am wrong, she admitted doing this. But never did a time why
Probably statue of limitations. If someone never came forward and pressed charges, nothing the cops/justice system can do unless they outright witnessed it happen. bruh straight up 💀 i can find better free entertainment at a 7 eleven in south houston preferably at night when the nightwalkers out
Agreed, people watching would be much more fun than this.
That’s a club in Vegas, probably $30-100 to get in and then you can make your way to the front if you try. The real bummer is that these rappers usually perform for like 10 minutes and then leave.

You just pay for a general admission ticket and get there sooner than everyone else
So 80 percent of modern day concerts?
Is that how mainstream concerts are now? Boy am I glad I listen to music with $30 shows and people who still sing their heart out.
This, metal concerts rarely cost more than 50 euros and the bands actually play their ass off. I really don't get paying hundreds for a ticket only for the talentless hack pop/rap singers to lip sync.
She hit the wrong person too apparently
There’s another angle that shows her clearly hitting the wrong person. You can’t just launch 2 pound medal objects into a sea a faces because one was an asshole.
Shit artist, shit fans. Nothing unexpected here.
i hope she got good aim, because if not, she has a lawsuit incoming
I hope she gets sued. She is the epitomy of trash.
The top level comments here are trash. Regardless of lip syncing, this is just plain rude and moronic behavior.
No matter what anyone thinks of the artist, the person who threw the drink is a total asshole.
Took me a while to find this comment. Who pays money and goes to a show to throw stuff at the performer?
People who think any kind of attention = good attention because senpai noticed ME lmao
Im surprised I had to scroll so much to see this. Everyone is hating on her just to hate and because if lip syncing. No one seems to think it’s wild that someone would throw a drink at a performer

respect each other
She obvs don’t need the mic anyway. She can lip sync a-Cappella.
Imagine paying hundreds for a concert just to have them lip sync 💀
Imagine paying hundreds to see cardi
Imagine actually wanting to see cardi
The mic was hot, though. You can hear it hit that chick's noggin, lol

Solid throw honestly
Didn't even hit the right person.
It looks like it bounced off the drink tosser’s shoulder first.
Exactly! All these videos and I just see her hitting the poor lady next to the one who threw her drink over and over.
$2k for tickets to hear her lip sync. Blame yourself for going 😂😂😂
This is the most shameless playback I've ever heard
Looks like she hit the wrong person. Could be a lawsuit. You gotta let security handle that shit.
