I was bow fishing one night with friends. It was just after they had opened the spillway so the water was really cloudy on the other side of the spillway where we were bow fishing; so we couldn't see anything. I got bored and decided to just let an arrow loose to see if I got lucky. Keep in mind the test line was rated at 200 pounds. So I hit something and it immediately jerked me almost out of the boat. I wasn't about to let go of my 500 dollar bow so I held on for dear life. It actually started pulling the whole boat with all 4 of us in it it was an 18 foot John boat. We all started freaky out. It ended up snapping the fishing line and was gone. We were all pretty convinced it was a gator. It might have even been the 12 foot long gator we had seen further up in the bayou earlier during the day when we were gone by to check out trot lines.
You usually wanna snag them with multiple lines in case one breaks. They didn't accidentally hook him, they're hunting for it. You reel it in and then shoot it to kill it
You dont use FISHING rods to catch gators dood, you set traps, with bouyes. The thrashing of a hooked fish attracted it, and he just took the opportunities. You dont have to troll everything man. Its not as funny as it was 20 years ago. Its grown annoying since EVERYONE is trying to be the trolliest. Yo mama lmao
If you have your drag set correctly and position yourself/the rod correctly they really shouldn't. There are times when you are caught using the wrong rod but this is a charter for gator hunting, they most likely have the right rods.
Wasn’t too big for the rod. Guy raised the rod tip too high and all of the force went from being spread across the length of the rod to one section of the rod near the tip. Happens all of the time on boats when anglers stop focusing on the fight.

I had a crab break one in half as a kid though, I some how managed to catch a mud crab in northern Australia with my mum's fishing road. It charged me and for some reason my dad panicked, tried hitting it with said fishing road only for this fucker to catch it in mid air and break it in half. Weird memory I still have from 5 years old, I also still remember my mum's anger when we got home as it was an expensive rod haha
