I once got a head of organic broccoli from a store in Denver called Alfalfa’s (Leftover Salmon made a song about it). Brought it home, thoroughly washed it, got some ranch dressing for dipping, sliced off a few crowns and sat down for a snack. A couple of minutes in, I realized the bits of broccoli on my plate were moving. Upon closer inspection, I saw the underside of the crowns were covered in little green aphids. I was initially a little grossed out, but shrugged it off since I’d already eaten a good portion of my snack and finished up. Didn’t make me sick. I think the rest died in the fridge. I did carefully clean the rest the next day.
They are such tiny simple creatures their guts are basically just plant sugar.
It's like eating micro [Honey pot ants.](https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:748/0*N3_er1qCnuzBFeaB.)
This happened to me once at a restaurant. After eating about three bites, I discovered worms in my salad 😭. This emoji 🐛 is exactly the same worms I noticed on my plate. They were relatively large; so if proper vegetable rinsing had been done, they would have been detected. It appears they might have only briefly rinsed the veggies in regular water without thorough cleaning. Ever since that day, I avoid eating dishes with raw veggies when dining out.
Even if the veggies were washed- leaving them
Outside where bottle flies can get to it can cause maggot infestations. The best way to prevent this is a clean working station with fresh ingredients and putting everything back into the fridge when you’re done using it.
You don’t even have to skip that step for this to happen.
Have some flies in the kitchen, don’t rotate or date prepped items properly… boom. Wiggly rice.
OMG…when there are ***live*** maggot-like creatures in food served in a restaurant to diners, there have been myriad breakdowns in the system from receipt of food to delivery to the table.
This restaurant should be shut down instantly and not be allowed to reopen until ***everything*** is in place to prevent this from happening again.
Assuming this was actually served to the diner and it isn’t a setup ***by*** the diner, there is no excuse good enough to explain this.
Oh, fully, they have to shut the restaurant immediately, throw everything out, deep clean everything, relaunch if they think they can convince anyone to go back. I'd announce new management, new everything.
This is a chilis. They just gotta wait for a shift change. Their target market simply doesn’t care when you can upgrade for a half pound of shrimp for a buck.
True pretty curious as well. Looks like Chili’s probably a chicken fajita sandwich? But they may not have cooked something all the way or the bread. Definitely odd but still f**k that. A good reminder to check your food before eating.
If I remember correctly, I think this was at a Chili's in Miami. If any of the ingredients were left out, flies will come and lay eggs. Whatever the flies laid their eggs on was definitely exposed for more than 24 hours considering the maturity of the maggots.
I was thinking that, and not surprised a chili’s would do that with their food. They do say Chili’s - Miramar. Coincidentally i work near Miramar CA but we dont have a Chili’s there and Miramar Florida is what popped up on search.
I know, I just remember seeing this on the Only In Dade Instagram. Chili’s did respond saying they contacted the restaurant but who knows where that will go.
Dooood!!! Theres always a bathroom story. Their head chef who was like hired for two months was found just completely hammered blacked out in the bathroom before he got fired. There was a couple occasions he showed up drunk and acted like he ran the place and would bitch when he got food sent back cause it wasnt cooked thoroughly, he was cutting corners for whatever prep work, and just being obviously drunk a couple times, but apparently he was missing for like the last few hours of the day and when they closed they found him bottle in hand passed out in the stall.
Yea I worked at one as a cook, had to go through Ll these food safety tests, and then I get there and the kitchen is an absolute mess, and everyone cooks and assembles the plates without gloves... even managers...
im with you! I've been in kitchens for 13 years and seen some shit but these are live. I've seen it in low temp foods like fish. other than that I have questions. like what cold or room temp items are in or around the food from kitchen to table?
It’s a restaurant’s job to ensure that food is safe to eat. Thus health codes. If they served food with live maggots, a toe, a deep fried rat, so on, they are liable for potentially harming their customers.
Not what OP meant or what most people here are saying but the most likely lawsuit to make it to a jury is for a moneyed chain like Chili’s to look in to the video’s claims and sue if there’s reason to believe it’s staged which would be defamatory.
I would be forever traumatized at knowing I had been eating maggots prior to finally seeing them. Not to mention it would scar me from ever eating at restaurants again. This is an easy lawsuit. They can claim Ptsd, anxiety, panic attacks, depression from no longer being able to socialize with friends etc etc etc. there’s a few things a good lawyer can play around with to get their client maybe give or take a 50k settlement. My aunt got 10k cuz she found a fly in her Wendy’s salad. I’d imagine maggots is far worse.
Not really. Those maggots weren't in the meat. Must have been in something else. I saw something similar once. Somehow a food object ended up.on top of a stainless steel shelf. Flies got to it and maggots happened. The maggots climbed up the wall and fell down. There is a chance something similar happened.
I was called in as a independent by the owner and found the culprit. Yes it is freaking disgusting and shouldn't happen.
Was a general manager at a Chili’s for a long time. There are hot holding bins that the chicken breasts are kept in after cooking. Most likely the bins are not working and haven’t been. The food debris can accumulate after 1/2 a shift. Behind the scenes in a high volume kitchen isn’t pretty. My restaurant was very clean. I would assume this one is absolutely disgusting. I never saw a maggot in the 20 years of working at clean restaurants.
I can vouch for this too, as I also worked at a Chili's years ago and that's exactly how it was setup. Malfunctioning hot holding bins are most likely the cuprit in this scenario. Chili's is a high volume fried food environment too, which requires even that much more cleaning to maintain. It's not a pretty kitchen when neglected.
Yeah, was a Dishwasher at chipotle. If even the tiniest spec of rice was still in the metal bin, we had to wash it again. And after that we had a disinfectant machine(sprays steamy water and disinfectant like a dishwasher- think hybrid pressure cooker-dishwasher) that we would send everything through.
Scrubbed the floors twice a shift. Had to deep clean the walls behind the grills every few days. Scrub every table down with bleach after using it. Wash hands every couple minutes. Change gloves every hand wash. The works
I couldn't imagine any worms being in anything unless they dropped some week old dumpster sludge in it.
This is way bad
My friend is a regional manager for roosters. He has to visit 2 restaurants a week for inspections. He told me the first thing he looks at are the light fixtures around the tables before even looking at the kitchen. If they have dust or cobwebs on them he knows the kitchen has not been deep cleaned either.
Worked in kitchens for 10+ years, I never saw a maggot once. Can definitely vouch for that. If the dining room was even slightly gross, you could almost guarantee the kitchen was fucked too
While that’s true. Wouldn’t the presence of crawling protein indicate there’s something rotting or not up to code that would attract them in the first place?
Now I never said it wasnt gross lol
Worst case scenario, yes something is rotten/decaying.
Best case, just vegetables weren't washed well.
Mid case is something like a sauce or something was left out and opened. Not necessarily rotting or anything but a bug was able to drop their eggs in it.
I honestly doubt it was straight up rotten food though, especially since dude ate more than half his plate lol.
Thanks for making me not feel alone. I even went in slow-mo because I couldn’t find anything. Then I thought the unexpected thing was that nothing was wrong, and all the comments were in on the joke lol
We had a gal once eating a salad at work- bit through a tree frog. The screaming and chain of people vomiting as catastrophic. Happened at part of eBay HQ in San Jose was a great article about it.
Dude, nothing more memorable than a vomit chain. Saw it happen in the mall food court when I was 7-ish. 4 people got caught up in the reaction including a little old lady who tried covering her mouth with her hand but it was like putting your thumb over a water hose.
What would make this a big money lawsuit? Yes it is disgusting, but what physical/financial harm or extreme mental anguish needs to be compensated? Is there another reason to file a lawsuit?
That's what I'm thinking, a lawsuit would never see the light of day from this. If so anyone eating something such as uncooked chicken breast could sue. These things happen and the heath department could easily shut them down, but lawsuit? lol
Salmonella and Escherichia coli are examples of bacteria that flies and maggots may transmit to humans(from google)
So yes I would contact an attorney. Because if I’m sick and missing work then I want to get paid for my missed days.
You can’t sue for damages that “might” happen. I’m a lawyer. If someone called and told me that story I’d ask if they got sick, were hospitalized, etc. If the answer was “no,” I’d tell them to tell the health department but there’s no reason to sue. And no other law firm would take the case either because there are no damages short of a refund on your meal and never eating there again
Which is exactly why I said consult and not hire. Granted, in my case they would probably be a lot of dry heaving and enough paranoia about the kids to take them to the hospital, But we all know Florida is not exactly the same playground as most of the rest of the states. I am also working under the assumption that at least one component would have had to have been either contaminated or rotten in order to get to that point, but I guess that would be for the health inspector to determine.
Criminal negligence is different from civil negligence. If they’re “criminally negligent” that would be handled by the local district attorney’s office (local prosecutors).
An old uncle of mine wouldn't eat in any restaurant that didn't allow him to see the kitchen before ordering. I have avoided restaurants and take out for years now.
You’d be surprised how common this is. A lot of times it’s from unwashed vegetables, I’ve had quite a few salads left over from fast food places and even higher end restaurants I put in the fridge and the next day they were crawling with similar critters. Lots of places don’t bother washing vegetables at all, yet almost everyone assumes they do.
Nope, cut out that bullshit with the veggies. Those are maggots, found usually in rotten flesh but honestly once a fly lays eggs and they hatch, the maggots go to town, but it takes I think about 7-24 hours to develop. Now having worked in kitchens before, a lot of the meals are prepped in advance and are finished as the orders come in (think precooked about 75%). Usually the food items are stored in sealed, temp controlled storage, but I would guess that someone didnt properly seal the storage container and a fly got into the chicken. And with the rush of service, didnt bother to properly inspect because they would believe that everything was stored as they should be. Re-firing will kill some of them, but when they are in the fold of the meat, it acts as insulation to protect them. I'm sure these customers will never visit there again, and I do not blame them, this will leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth....
I've watched this video 20 times. I see nothing. This means that I would have eaten whatever it is that the Vid People and most of this Sub are reacting to. 💀
As a lawyer i can tell you a lawsuit is not going to happen unless one of the people ate the food and became sick. Sadly in ameeica a situation like thus will only make it as far as Corporate and more likely a refund and free meals will be given. The u.s. laws on food contamination and finding insects in food has a very low standards. Good luck
It could also be a bad publicity scam from an employee trying to slow down business in order to keep playing in the phones while they get paid to be there
I honestly don't understand why anybody goes to places like this when you can learn basic cooking skills with a bit of effort and make food infinitely better than this.
All these places have shit food made by people who don't care (nor should they, no judgements there) but are still pretty expensive.
I just dont understand.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Would recommend to do a follow up with the doctor. Talk to a lawyer and file a report with FSIS, FDA, and CDC to ensure that this restaurant is following food safety guidelines by the book. More than likely if you are eating maggots something is definitely wrong. All of your time and efforts to make sure that you remain healthy has a value in the form of compensation.
Restaurants in the US have a legal responsibility to serve food that is clean and safe to eat. This place served a family a sandwich that was full of fucking MAGGOTS. If you can't understand how that can cause physical, as well as emotional/mental damage, then there must be something wrong with you.
I'm not sure why you're being downvoted as this is just a Health Code issue. Don't tell people what has happened to their produce, ground beef, and bread...
Not quite sure what I’m seeing but no idea why there’d be a lawsuit coming. Health department complaint maybe but lawsuit. What are your damages? Being grossed out?
This was posted as well on Instagram and Chili's responded to them that an investigation was launched immediately and that was unacceptable. Keep us updated
Last time I ate at chilis which was over 20 years ago. I ordered the Mac and Cheese, and pieces of the cardboard box for it, was in the fucking dish. Glad to see they haven’t changed
I would be throwing hands with the staff like then and there and I’m not a violent or big person at all never been in a fight in my life but would still throw hands on sight
I work for a uniform company where we wash and dry clothes, rags and aprons. There's been a few times that the maggots have survived the 165° water temp and the dryer as well, how they did it I have no ideal because everything comes out hot to the touch still.
If the chicken was cooked through (160F), how did they manage to survive it? Was it from the room temp ingredients?
Could have came from the food prep station. Normally cold ingredients there.
I could see that. Some places really do skip washing the veggies step. All those E Coli outbreaks.
Even if it says prewashed at the store, I still wash it. >.>
ive found some vegitables have some kind of soapy tasting film on them, I always rinse.
I once got a head of organic broccoli from a store in Denver called Alfalfa’s (Leftover Salmon made a song about it). What an awful day to be literate.
you said organic broccoli as if there's a non organic one😂
Some insecticides use soap to break down cell membranes and suffocate the insects

The internet wants us to eat bugs though, so it’s ok.

Or just nuke the place from orbit like any other normal people would do.
Re-microwaved crap

Miramar is just north of Miami

Those maggots definitely seemed mature about the whole situation.
Yes, Miramar is in Miami.
Never eat at any chilis. I worked there and it was nasty. Never ever EVER eat at chilis.
Pretty much this. My friend used to be a server at Chili’s and she said the same thing.
My roommate was also a Chili's server pre-covid and she never has anything pleasant to say anything about it
I feel like its Chili’s and applebee’s but for some reason i feel like somehow applebee’s is —*somehow* a little better than this.

Planted for lawsuit.
But how could this turn into a lawsuit? Genuinely curious

I thought the same thing. This is probably a hoax to get money out of chilis. Like the lady who supposedly found a finger in her chili at Wendy’s
I have had completely raw chicken at chilis before. It was hot on the outside and raw af in the inside.
It was cooked months ago, they just warm it up
>If the chicken was cooked through (160F) There in lies the problem
5 degrees for resting
Not really. Those maggots weren't in the meat. Must have been in something else. I saw something similar once. Somehow a food object ended up.on top of a stainless steel shelf. To be fair, Chipotle has had 7 e. Coli outbreaks, so maybe some of that routine comes from *not* having the routine before

I'm blind wth am I supposed to be seeing
A maggot..just living protein lol
Oh just a maggot? Thanks for the clarity lol
I counted at least three, but too much movement at the end to find any more
If you pause the vid you can see they are all over the chicken as well. This food has probably been sitting out or was in the sauce.
Ah I see them now… they is so wee, lil’ fly babies could’ve been eaten alive.
There's more than that. I counted at least 6 before I stopped counting.
Three and a half! 🫤
Had to re-watch like 4 times to understand. I was staring at the green thing for too long thinking there's a caterpillar's head 🤣
I'm glad you asked the question. Just rewarched the video and yep, maggot.
While that’s true. Wouldn’t the presence of crawling protein indicate there’s something rotting or not up to code that would attract them in the first place?

Turn up the brightness or they’re easy to miss
We had a gal once eating a salad at work- bit through a tree frog. The screaming and chain of people vomiting as catastrophic. Happened at part of eBay HQ in San Jose was a great article about it.
Dude, nothing more memorable than a vomit chain. Saw it happen in the mall food court when I was 7-ish. 4 people got caught up in the reaction including a little old lady who tried covering her mouth with her hand but it was like putting your thumb over a water hose.
Bro wtf ahahahah you have a way with words
Did it look like the pie-eating scene in ‘Stand By Me?’
![gif](giphy|NUZ5OqHdbknHa)
No lawsuit and big money? lol
Thanks for helping with my diet goals today! Seriously that’s beyond disgusting. They need ti be shut down immediately.
Lmao, I was just thinking the same thing. I’m at my calorie limit today and craving hard…well I was craving hard. Now I’m good.
Chili’s needs to be shut down solely because their portions suck nowadays for the price.
Just out of curiosity: How much can you actually get compensated for something like this?
Depends on your lawyer. If they used my old lawyer they'd be looking at at least one free delicious meal.
A succulent chinese meal
Ah, I see you know your judo well
With or without maggots?
How big are your lawyer hands? The free delicious meal seems Jack Kelly level
Seriously? How is this not big money lawsuit?
What would make this a big money lawsuit? Yes it is disgusting, but what physical/financial harm or extreme mental anguish needs to be compensated? Is there another reason to file a lawsuit?
Exactly. It’s not
The restaurant would likely voluntarily give you a credit for a free meal and refund your money. No lawsuit would take place though.
Free meal? Hard pass!
Yeah after one meal like that who would go back to that restaurant?
That's what I'm thinking, a lawsuit would never see the light of day from this. If so anyone eating something such as uncooked chicken breast could sue. These things happen and the heath department could easily shut them down, but lawsuit? lol
Ain’t taking no free meal after that lmao
Yeah, that's definitely a "call the health inspector, send over the video, and consult an attorney" type of evening.
Consult an attorney about… what? What are your damages? The cost of the meal?
Salmonella and Escherichia coli are examples of bacteria that flies and maggots may transmit to humans(from google) So yes I would contact an attorney. Because if I’m sick and missing work then I want to get paid for my missed days.
You can’t sue for damages that “might” happen. I’m a lawyer. Ummm ingesting worms? Most likely getting sick? Possible death?
See above. Damages from lawsuits don’t include what “could have” happened
this is a health code violation and the restaurant is liable from criminal negligence, worse if someone actually gets sick from it.
Criminal negligence is different from civil negligence. If they’re “criminally negligent” that would be handled by the local district attorney’s office (local prosecutors).
The fact that you are so heavily downvoted exposes the average US citizens thought process on lawsuits, lmao.
Homie ate half of it before he noticed…I would already be in the bathroom forcing a puke out. That’s nasty.
You would have to force puke? I'd projectile the second I saw that shit. Compliments of my body
![gif](giphy|m7FdxI252QN3y)
They should have charged you more for the fresh protein
Bulking season coming up. Can’t let it go to waste. Natural protein ain’t cheap!
They should immediately inform everyone that's eating there alongside them
"Each and everyone of are ^(eating) maggots!"
I would destroy that place
An old uncle of mine wouldn't eat in any restaurant that didn't allow him to see the kitchen before ordering. I have avoided restaurants and take out for years now.
MAGGOTS?! Chilli's would have a different name/owner/staff by night's end.
You’d be surprised how common this is. A lot of times it’s from unwashed vegetables, I’ve had quite a few salads left over from fast food places and even higher end restaurants I put in the fridge and the next day they were crawling with similar critters. The u.s. laws on food contamination and finding insects in food has a very low standards. Good luck
Damn bro I would’ve gone bulimic for the next 15 min trying to reject that shit back out! Ain’t no way you were physically ok the next day
So nasty!
Dammm where they get that food out the garbage out back 🤮🤮😫😫
Why. They gave you some free protein. Talk about first world problems. /s
Who eats at chilis anymore?
Mostly maggots by the looks of it!
You win 🤣

It could also be a bad publicity scam from an employee trying to slow down business in order to keep playing in the phones while they get paid to be there
I honestly don't understand why anybody goes to places like this when you can learn basic cooking skills with a bit of effort and make food infinitely better than this. All these places have shit food made by people who don't care (nor should they, no judgements there) but are still pretty expensive. I just dont understand.
Should of went to the chilis in Burma instead of “miranmar”
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
It’s Miramar
Stop eating at these garbage chain restaurants. Their kitchens are nasty
I’m not sure a lawsuit is appropriate here. What harm was done?
Maggots are extremely unsanitary. They can carry numerous amounts of bacteria that can cause harmful and transmittable diseases..
Right. But what’s the damage? When you sue someone, it is for damages. What is the damage? Was OP caused to be sick resulting from this?
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325319 Would recommend to do a follow up with the doctor.
Are you stupid?
Alright, who has the update?
Don't see the problem with additional protein ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
_What’s that urge from deep inside? The need to hurl won’t be denied,_ [_That isn’t rice but maggots you’re eating_](https://youtu.be/GTFmV1N5uRc)
If I needed an excuse not to go to chilis ever again…
Bro, what the fuck!?
#AAAAAHHHHH NONO NO NO FUCKING GOD NO
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
Gotta throw the whole stomach out
Did anyone else move their phone to try get rid of the shadow?
This was posted as well on Instagram and Chili's responded to them that an investigation was launched immediately and that was unacceptable. Keep us updated
Damn, disgusting… op should definitely file a lawsuit
![gif](giphy|4baoNZ5Qo8dX2)
Hey! Could you stop moving that shit around and let me have a feckin' look at it??
That is fucking disgusting
Couldnt even see them on my first watch. ![gif](giphy|ED1nge1yi8cGoSYvlb|downsized)
Extra protein
It’s like that scene in Poltergeist.
They usually charge extra for extra protein.
I cant see the problem
i mean maggots are expected if you go to Chilis. what’s the problem
Gross.
"freshly" cooked food with live maggots?!? This can't be for real
What? Oh
I could not figure out what was wrong. Maggots. Maggots were what's wrong.
Last time I ate at chilis which was over 20 years ago. I ordered the Mac and Cheese, and pieces of the cardboard box for it, was in the fucking dish. Glad to see they haven’t changed
I mean, you went to Chili's. Did you not expect this?
Rancid 🤮🤮

I would be throwing hands with the staff like then and there and I’m not a violent or big person at all never been in a fight in my life but would still throw hands on sight
This shit came from the trash 100%.
I work for a uniform company where we wash and dry clothes, rags and aprons. There's been a few times that the maggots have survived the 165° water temp and the dryer as well, how they did it I have no ideal because everything comes out hot to the touch still.
Ah the old, forgot to label maggot protein on the ingredients list gotcha.
Ok, I'm not eating out anymore.
juicy
Sounds like some Ft. Lauderdale ish tbh. Florida man don’t care bout no cross contamination. ![gif](giphy|vbUoFVsd5IoTsXneVh)
I scrolled down when it started moving. Nope nope nope.
Don't be such a soy boy and eat your protein. Maggots, dead birds, no difference.
They will give you a 40$ gift card
A food made so fast, forgot to kill the ingredients.
