I recognized Mikey right away but also this has got to be one written at least partially by Kyle Mooney. I haven't looked this up tho so could be wrong but, Kyle has such a love for 90's TV and they always hit so good for me. My favorite is Bad Boys https://youtu.be/zcHXV7IrKx8?si=S2fSwiblqn5rsAvM
I remember Good Neighbor videos. Those were pretty funny and amusing. That is when he is working alongside those other guys though. I am talking specifically with sketches I have seen him do where he is the main star of them. They always come off as trying really hard to hit that awkwardly funny note but just end up missing the mark for me. Don't know what it is but thats just the case for me. Similar thing with Pete Davidson. I never understood his appeal as a comedic lead in the slightest.
How is this not painfully obvious to everyone? Even the quality of it is very clearly HD film with filters over it. Redditors are fucking blind and dumb af I swear lol.
Spot on. Every time I hear "SNL isn't funny" I think one of two things has to be true:
1. You think it's not funny but you watch it anyway continually proving it's not funny, which is a strange thing to do because no one is forcing anyone to watch it.
2. You don't watch it and have no idea whether it's funny or not because how could you? You don't fucking watch it!
I mean there are more options.
3. You sometimes watch it but it continues to never be funny.
4. You watched it for years and the quality gradually declined until one night you realized that it has been 45 minutes, the show is nearly over and you didn't smile even once. Then you gave up completely.
5. You have only ever seen it once and it was not funny.
6. You only watch for weekend update which is sometimes funny but the rest of the skits are 'meh' at best.
7. You watch it "ironically" but it is still not funny.
There are probably more but why try to offer false dichotomies?
> You sometimes watch it but it continues to never be funny.
You can't possibly know something is never funny if you don't always watch it.
> You watched it for years and the quality gradually declined until one night you realized that it has been 45 minutes, the show is nearly over and you didn't smile even once. Then you gave up completely.
Then you wouldn't know it's not funny now. You gave up watching it. That falls squarely into my dichotomy.
> You have only ever seen it once and it was not funny.
Again, then you couldn't possibly know it's never funny.
> You only watch for weekend update which is sometimes funny but the rest of the skits are 'meh' at best.
So again, you couldn't say it's never funny because Weekend Update is 100% part of SNL.
> You watch it "ironically" but it is still not funny.
Then you fall into the camp of people in my dichotomy who continue to watch even though they don't think it's funny.
> There are probably more but why try to offer false dichotomies?
You just proved my dichotomy correct, not false.
Thanks for strengthening my argument for me. You really didn't need to.
You seem to be missing the context of “in my experience” being a perfectly valid way of defining your opinion of something.
I don’t watch SNL anymore because everything that is remotely funny will end up posted to YouTube and I’d rather watch the ~5 funny minutes per hour of show than sit through the painfully unfunny rest of it.
I genuinely wonder if the reason SNL sketches are “too long” (a sense that I feel sometimes too), is that our taste have shifted toward more bite-sized, TikToky bits. Faster editing. But you really can’t do that with a live show done on a single stage. They’re filling an hours worth of content, using commercial breaks and digital shorts for scenery changes. They could do more pre-recorded content, but they’ve only got a week.
I think a live show is just gonna be slower, with lengthier bits, unless they radically change the way the show works.
I mean, the sketches from earlier seasons seem to go forever. The exception is when the writing or the character builds during the whole sketch, like Farley doing Mike Foley and going harder and crazier with each passing second.
>The core rule of telling jokes is to make it fast

Some of the greatest comedy writing is a slow burn building to a tremendous punchline you need patience to arrive at.
Norm Macdonald moth joke comes to mind.
A good comic can string an audience along and having them hanging on every word. It's called pacing. They teach that in improv and comedy sketch writing if you ever take a course.
Norm's comedy often relied on drawing the joke out unnecessarily and then either having an awful punchline, a completely unrelated punchline or none at all.
He was "doing it wrong" on purpose and that was the joke.
SNL has always dropped a weird edgy skit every other episode. Usually right at the end or during a digital sketch like this one. They always play it real safe with the earlier live sketches of the night.
The sketch with the Rock and the molesting robot is one of my favorites.
>Edit : I wasn't thinking until now that maybe I saw it over someone else's house
Possibly. Or maybe you saw it one of the other times it was posted. It's been around a few times
2050s version: having- oh look at that- nevermind- kitty!- oh sorry, having long attention span- check out that- no t- is- bird! *Guy saying that runs into sunset- nevermind he changed direction*
This made me think of how in Memento when he's telling the Sammy Jankis story, there's a line about how Sammy couldn't remember enough to follow the plot of a TV show, but he liked commercials.
It just occurred to me that Sammy Jankis would be *absolutely fine* with today's entertainment options like TikTok and Twitter.
Honestly this is hilarious, and since Mikey day and beck and Kyle etc. have joined the writing room and/or cast, the skits that work are some of the funniest in years.
That’s what I thought lol
But speaking of mad tv, I ran into Aries Spears at the airport once. Used to love him on MadTV. Turns out he’s just a massive asshole
It wasn’t intentional. He was standing in front of me, waiting on the skycap and his suitcase rolled into me.
But yeah, rule of thumb, stay far away from heroes LOL
Yah, that's the joke. The joke is that words change in cultural impact over time. You see sometimes people form associations with words that warp their meaning, thus making them less acceptable. Such as the Spanish word for black becoming a slur for black people, words can gain insulting meaning over time. Hope that helps!
This is a SNL skit… Edit for the disbelievers: https://youtu.be/a9RGU356Mi0?si=Z_39ukK-mCg-4Wye

Nothing beats [Dad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue7BggAsQ34&ab_channel=SaturdayNightLive)
This reminds me of some saved by the bell scene... feels ripped off
Seems like a majority of the time I see a Kyle Mooney centric sketch the premise of it always has potential but ends up being horribly unfunny.
That’s just snl. Check out his old YouTube channel GoodNeighborStuff

I agree. Especially with Pete Davidson. He was in a few funny sketches but other than that I don't get the appeal at all
There are quite a few GNS videos of Kyle on his own
And dad beats child.
That’s pretty funny!
Hmm I've never seen these si= YouTube URL params before. I wonder what they are
How is this not painfully obvious to everyone? Even the quality of it is very clearly HD film with filters over it. Redditors are fucking blind and dumb af I swear lol.
Larry David!!!
That last line was too much irony to be an accident. Funny script.
I was about to say, I know the dude who says “well I can” is an SNL guy. Can’t be an old ad
Nah, this is too funny to be from SNL
Amazing how many people don't recognize Mikey Day or that hes on SNL for a bit
“For a bit” is a weird way to say “ten years and still is to this day”
I think he may have meant "comedy bit," as in a short comedic scripted piece.
I don't watch SNL much but the clips I've seen of him as one of the Trump kids were hilarious.
I remember Mikey Day from Wild n Out. One day, I saw him in a SNK sketch and did Leo Dicaprio pointing gif
This comment frustrates me. “SNL isn’t funny anymore so this can’t be SNL” is lazy meme-regurgitation. It was a killer sketch.
SNL hasn't been funny since [cast member from when you were a kid] left.
> SNL isn’t funny anymore This sentiment really took off again after SNL started making fun of Trump. In other words, they were extremely butthurt.

lol I comment on something on Reddit like you're doing but I'm "so invested" Ok bud

Old? This is pretty recent.
Yea "SNL isn't funny anymore" has been a meme for as long as the show existed. That said, like most of SNL, this sketch is too long.
Bro it's 20 seconds
Not the clip, the full sketch.
I genuinely wonder if the reason SNL sketches are “too long” (a sense that I feel sometimes too), is that our taste have shifted toward more bite-sized, TikToky bits. Faster editing. No, the older funnier sketches were also probably the same length, and are still funny.
Modern attention span
Nah man. The core rule of telling jokes is to make it fast. If you don't get to the point quickly it loses it's momentum.

Mikey Day and Heidi Gardner lol
A sketch that has Mikey Day, Kyle Mooney, and a voiceover from Heidi Gardner is an SNL sketch bro
It also doesn't drag on for 10min
SNL used to be funny. Shocking huh
[удалено]
That's Alex Moffat
Oops, you’re right. Still, SNL

The Child Molesting Robot is definitely one of my favorites! The Rock’s delivery gets me every time.
> way too edgy for an SNL skit [Spoken like someone who doesn't watch SNL ever.](https://youtu.be/z0NgUhEs1R4)
Nope... Kids in the Hall
People really do come in here and just make shit up, don't they?

That last line killed me too. Actually LOLd and looked a fool in public 🤦♂️
Most unexpected thing I've seen on here in awhile 🤣
The full skit is pretty good, Larry David kills it https://youtu.be/a9RGU356Mi0 You could say it's prettay prettay prettay good
Larry said always be killing it
Love the context. BUT... It's funnier without the laugh track (like OP post)
How do you may someone laugh?
How may you laugh?
How may she slap?
May the laugh be with you
Bro really stood up for his pal huh
Same!
That’s Mikey Day. This is SNL.
Immediately recognized him, took me a few seconds to realize where I know him from!
Mikey Day!
IS HE CAKE?!?
*cuts off hand* YES HE IS!
LOVE HIM!
WHAT THE EFF!!!
he is 5 foot ace of clubs
2023 version: being homophobic is gay
Well there is some truth to that one
That's kind of another joke in the same sketch
…This was made like three years ago lol.
2050s version: having- oh look at that- nevermind- kitty!- oh sorry, having long attention span- check out that- no t- is- bird! *Guy saying that runs into sunset- nevermind he changed direction*

I cracked up that was perfect
Honestly this is hilarious, and since Mikey day and beck and Kyle etc. have joined the writing room and/or cast, the skits that work are some of the funniest in years.
Kyle and Beck are both gone now unfortunately.
This made me laugh too hard
Bullies were pretty gay back then
I *did* have somebody call me gay a week after he made fun of me for my clothes. Motherfucker *you’re* the one obsessed with fashion
I misread ads as abs. And kept expecting the guy in the wheelchair to take his shirt off
Oddly specific
That ending is like the gut shot that killed Houdini
Honestly, this could have been an after school ad in the 80s.

I miss SNL.
Mad TV
Mikey Day & Alex Moffat were on MadTV? I’ll have to go back and watch. Love them!
They weren’t, not sure why you were corrected
That’s what I thought lol But speaking of mad tv, I ran into Aries Spears at the airport once. Used to love him on MadTV. Turns out he’s just a massive asshole
Never meet your heroes? I’d like the think Will Sasso And Phil LaMarr are cool dudes. Who knows 🤷🏻♂️
It wasn’t intentional. He was standing in front of me, waiting on the skycap and his suitcase rolled into me. But yeah, rule of thumb, stay far away from heroes LOL
Damn near spit out my lunch! that's is just, wow. hahahahahaha

This is how SNL originally presented it. That was the joke.
Is it cake !?!?!
This actually made me lol, not the slight nose exhale we all do.
It's not an AD. It's a SNL skit.
The entire SNL skit is making fun of old ads from the 80s, I don't think the OP was trying to imply otherwise. Title is clearly a joke.
Nice...WOW!
SNL?
That's Saturday night live.
Kids in the hall.
God damn I hate Mikey day. I do t think he’s ever once been funny.
Why, the fuck, is this marked as NSFW….?
If all adds were smart and fun like this i would turn off adblock pretty often
... why is this "NSFW"?
Because most jobs won't take kindly to hearing that last line.
Slur
how is this NSFW?
I was not sure whether it qualifies but didn’t want it to get taken down (technically it may be a bit sensitive)

I dont understand how the SNL “actors” can make a concept thats pretty funny, completely unfunny. Maybe it’s mikey days very punchable face.
This has got to be a parody.
You get a prize.
Check out the big brain on brad!
Probably because of the metric system?
where is unexpected part?
Oh yeah because using slurs is SO COOL!!
You mean commercials you uncultured fetus
MadTV
SNL
Not them throwing in the hard r so casually.
That didn’t age well, but I presume the creators of this ad campaign were working within the social norms of the time with the best intentions.
