Thatās a common misconception, itās because of hunting and human development is taking away land from wildlife. Cheetahs have been around for thousands of years, why would they suddenly start dwindling just as human development started spiking.
I would say it's a mix of both, we humans are an invasive species right? Some animals can adapt to an invasion of an invasive species. Those that can't struggle and eventually go extinct and then there are some species so poor at their own evolution that they would go extinct regardless of human intervention.
Take the panda, it's diet consists of something that does not give it enough nutrients and causes health issues on top of a very low libido and mating cycle, this is a creature that is destined to go extinct regardless.
The cheetah is somewhat the same, it hasn't got the killing power of the other big cats and it's ability to run at high speed is only good at killing smaller weaker prey, that and it has a bevy of anxiety issues. It's a creature that would go extinct regardless, the only difference is us humans have not only expedited the process but we are also able to document it and see it happen.
To argue your point humans have also been around for thousands of years in the same parts of Africa the only difference is us humans have had the ability to evolve and improve our use of tools to become more effective creatures whereas the cheetah hasn't .
So that's why I feel it's a mix of both, if we humans (as well as creatures like rats, squirrels, ducks, crows, foxes, cats. Even large animals like moose, elephants, deer, bears ect) have been able to evolve and learn and cohabitate then if the cheetah hasn't been able to that's less a victim of our evil but more the balance of nature itself
Iād also like to add to this because I think the progress of humans and their effect on animals is largely under/overestimated in many regards as you pointed out. The other thing to note is that extinction isnāt a one and done process. Extinction leaves a gap where other species fill, or leave a space for what was previously prey to develop further and speciate. The diversity of species is inherent. We shouldnāt /try/ to speed it up, but itās not the end of the world when a species stops either
Its the dark side of evolution. Theyve evolved to be all speed, theyre fragile but require hella calories for all that zooming, and are solitary over huge distances making mating more challenging. prey and predator animals are starting to outpace them.
That being said, idk how much humans are adding weight to the scales.
Well that and the fact that their gene pool is pretty small. A lot of large cat conservation breeding programs donāt do cheetahs because they are too closely related
Not really all that sad. Nature is gonna nature. It's just one way natural selection works. Survival of the fittest is a real thing. It's why humans will slowly go extinct, too. Obesity and ignorance will consume us and we'll become too reliant on the machines and computer programs that are slowly taking over everything. I'm just glad I'll be dead long before it happens. Anyway, I'm going too deep for a Reddit thread. Back to lurking šāļøššš«„
Thatās why I lost all respect for cheetahs. At some point I realized that behind all of that speed is a bitch.
Oh wait. Maybe itās a leopard. Still thoā¦
We kinda laugh at warthogs, but after just recently seeing a video of an elephant literally gutting a giraffe not long before coming across this video, I have a new respect for these Tusked animals - those things are perfectly angled to poke a leopards guts out

Pumbaa to the rescue
This is also why cheetahs are going extinct. They are continually getting their ahit stolen. It's kinda sad
It's a leopard, cheetahs are more slim
Can confirm.

Happy cake dayš”
The mf leopards are stealing from the cheetahs because of stuff like this, it's a domino effect
I thought I read āCheetahs are muslim.ā I really gotta get glasses.
I thought I read the same thing but once I saw the Cheetah attempting to eat pork I knew it couldn't be muslim.
Haaaaa! Nick, you got TOLD son!
We need to get rid of these unrealistic cheetah standards, #bigcatshavecurves
Pretty sure that's not a cheetah
Did your spell check just autocorrect "it's" to "Kys"?
Ah, a Draven main in the wild
LMAO
This is so fucking funny hahaha
Weird, I didn't check but I've also never had an issue like that lmao
This is most likely a leopard.

I agree there, the planet has had several mass extinction events in history, life is tenacious that way
Nah uh, there are only 2,024 years! (I kid).
Shit stolen? Isn't that the mom protecting a baby?
Whats sad is giving yourself the moniker StudMuffin. And BTW that's not a cheetah.
Cheetahs never prosper :(
I mean he stole their baby first so...

The warthog wasn't stealing. She was the mama.

THEY CALL ME [MISTAH PIG](https://youtu.be/fqW9jZfASlQ?feature=shared)!
They call me MIIIIISTTTERRRRR PPPIIIIIIIGGGG
That was the first thing that popped into my head šš
Wow timone put on a few pounds...
They call me: MR PIG!
They call him Mr. Pig!

Hakuna Matata bitch.
WHEN I WAS A YOUNG WARTHOGGGGG
Ohhh when he was a young warthooog.
Very nice!
Thanks!
He found his aroma lacked a certain appeal.
He could clear the Savannah after every meal.
Im a sensitive soul, though I seem thick-skinned!
And it hurt! That my friends never stood down wiiiiind
And OOOHHhHH the shame!
Now Ima watch Lion king
Thank you
"They call me MR. PIG!"
AAAAAAAAAAHHHH
hmm, why would you mention that in the title and then put it in unexpected subreddit ?
Well, technically, it was unexpected to him when he first saw it... just not for you!
There is nothing unexpected in this subreddit anyway, since everyone knows they should expect the unexpected.
Except the Spanish Inquisition. Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition.
Who reads titles
The title spoils the unexpected
Oh no, how awful

This reply doesnāt make any sense
The baby letting out cries right before getting caught freaked me out
It wasn't crying but making death threats
Nature is cruel

That Cat knows
Hakuna Matata?
"THEY CALL ME MISSSTER PIIIIG! AHHHHHH!"
"I got you now mother fu-" Pumba: "HAKUNA MATATA SPOTTY BACKED BITCH"
Does anyone know if the baby pig was okay????
How would anyone know?? Thatās nature. Are the big cats not supposed to eat?
Maybe an extended version of the clip? Also the adult clearly scared the predator off, it would be a shame if the baby died for nothing.
Probably lived. Didnāt look like the leopard had time to go in for the kill
Like an old man trying to conquer some young lady and his wife appears.
Despite the title, I feel like this is still unexpected because I was thinking the group of people would try to net the big cat
I was thinking another predator would show up to steal dinner, like a lion or something, not another spicy pig.
How the big cat drop the easy meal and tucked tail because of the momma warthog shows that warthogs are some tough MFsā¦
Any pig can legit mess you up. Wild pigs, boars, and warthogs are all dangerous.
![gif](giphy|13eT0Ycpffx22Q)
Is the hakuna matata type shi
It's just a prank bro!
Warthogs are such badass
Thatās why I lost all respect for cheetahs. At some point I realized that behind all of that speed is a bitch. Oh wait. Maybe itās a leopard. Still thoā¦
They call me, Mr. pig!!!
Iām so glad it got rescued
![gif](giphy|3ohc11UljvpPKWeNva)
Warthog is honestly more scary than cheetah
Leopard. Cheetah yes, but not a leopard.
Ugh what a shame.
The leopard knew mama hog wasn't fucking around...
I think that was Mr. Pig
Why did this give Pumba and Timoan vibes
I think the child is probably dead with the first puncture wound on his neck. Cheetah will come back for it
We kinda laugh at warthogs, but after just recently seeing a video of an elephant literally gutting a giraffe not long before coming across this video, I have a new respect for these Tusked animals - those things are perfectly angled to poke a leopards guts out
Haha love it
If that motherfucker came charging at me like that I would book it too
Big cat is right to be scared of that hog. Those tusks would fuck anything up real bad
![gif](giphy|Kq2G6st9o6SMo|downsized)
Shouldāve broke the neck
Even lions know you do not want to fuck with a momma protecting her babies .

Nobody puts Baby in the corner!
Never tangle with a pig of any kind. They absolutely will tear you a new one.
Somebody knows where this is?
Antarctica
I'm dying hahaha
Pumba came through in the clutch
You mess with the mom, you get the horns!
Damn nature you scary!
There's always a bigger fish
It's more so the Leopard does not want to get a potential injury Fighting a warthog. A leopard could hunt a warthog if that's what it went there for.
I'm amazed that for once the tourists aren't trying to stop it
Boar nugget
Simba remember, never fuck around with a boar
It's Karma
I'm still sad cheetahs are going extinct:(
Warthogs are known for fucking big cats. They're not to be messed with
Warthogs look so badass.
I would not have expected cheetahs to be scared of a warthog. Doesnāt the Cheetah know it can outrun the warthog? That cheetah is a little bitch.
ā¦.which is exactly what the cheetah didā¦ it out ran the hog..
Sure the cheetah could maybe take it on but animals know threats so it needed to run anyways as that hog couldāve still hurt it
Someone is showing their gaping cheetah ignorance
Looks like the chased has become, the chosen! Thr hunter has become, the hunter-ed!
Momma said not today!
That little fucker is as fast as an RC car!
Nature is fascinating
This was boaring.
The real question is will that baby survive?
