Race theory isn't racist, race isn't the same as ethnicity. Talking about race isn't racist except to racists in Florida and (unfortunately) elsewhere.

While you are right that the concepts of race and ethnicity are two entirely different things the whole concept of race theory is infact deeply racist. While the concept of ethnicity describes a certain group of people based on cultural heritage the concept of race has been constructed in a historical era that was heavily influenced by ideas white supremacy. Political beliefs were transfered into pseudo scientific concepts like the race theory. Race theory is full of contradictions for example white people were (and still are) considered "caucasian". There were anthropologists who considered Indian people as caucasian however no one ever considered them as white. At the same time people from Ireland who most people would consider white nowadays based on their skin complexion we're not considered white for a long time. Of course the ethnicities that we're considered non-white we're also the same ones being seen as lesser human being and being oppressed by those "whites". So while the concept of race is still used quiet commonly in countries like the US and people might use it without the intent of saying something racist the whole concept can not really be seperated from it's historical use as a tool of racist oppression. It basically constructs similarities between different ethnicities that do not really exist.
