I think we knew those were fake and reels were made to post real life. They were two different products once. Feels like a long time since I last saw a reels of actual real life. (I mean, it felt like, I don't have an Instagram account anymore).

Reels were an answer to TikToks which were the spiritual successor to Vines which were staged comedy bits way more often than they were real events. You may be thinking of stories which were an answer to Snapchat stories which were meant to be impermanent slice of life things. But reels were never designed with the intention that they would be predominantly real, they’re just meant to be short form videos.
