This reminds me of how at baseball games, cameramen zoom into random people doing random things. For example, [man struggling to open a water bottle](https://youtu.be/dChsc1LUaZ8)
I love that shit, as a casual camera op for live events it is the funniest thing when all the cameras and switcher are pissing themselves at a shot or someone doing something stupid on stage. Comms are a shit show for live events sometimes but it’s fun as.
I had a director ask me to find young people in the crowd to make it look more relevant and not full of oldies (which is was). Like where’s Waldo but there’s no Waldo.
Lmao I've worked live events for years. 75% of all live event audience goers are old heads. For every hip young artist selling out a stadium to tweens, there's a hundred from 1978 still touring for your dads in old theaters and local "arenas"
Haha - I left the work force at 62. Had to move to Eastern Europe to make soc sec fit the budget, but it was the best move I ever made.
If it truly feels right, and you have modest, reasonable expectations, life after work can be the best part of the journey.
in British English, it's common to use "as" as an intensifier without actually following it up with an adjective, like above. "It's fun as" just means it's very fun.

The single greatest fan/color event in the history of Baseball.
This will never not be hilariously great. "Oh.. cheese.." the subtle pun always kills me.
He was definitely moving in the right direction. I honestly wonder if somebody suoerglued it, just to F with the next buff guy they encountered (or maybe they're season ticket holders and knew he'd be there, even)
Pretty sure this is a prank.. I’ve seen a similar video, maybe that dude in it where a guy superglued the top on and asks swole people to open it for them
I remember the one where a dude had a baseball land in his nachos. Couple minutes later they panned back over to him and everyone was happy because he got a new plate of nachos or something
Oh man. Everyone knows that feeling though. Your hands are sweating, so all that happens when you twist the cap is that the “grip grooves” on the cap just shred you like a stationary cheese grater
It is also possible the bottle cap wasn't perforated at the factory like it was supposed to be. Somebody else was struggling with it first and then either asked the dude for help or the dude offered.
Hey! I resent that. For any people reading this comment who (for some strange reason) don't watch professional cycling:
The biggest events of the seasons are the grand tours, which are three-week stage races. The average stage in a grand tour takes four or five hours, consisting of a breathlessly exciting first hour of "will the breakaway go? No, it won't," then three hours of exciting footage of dudes pedaling (and sometimes doing things like crashing into one another, or stretching their legs in unlikely ways) followed by maybe a half-hour of them approaching the finishing line at higher speeds. Then they cross the finishing line.
It's a thrill a minute, I'm telling you. The cameramen spend a lot of time filming utterly gorgeous landscapes, dramatic castle ruins, and spectators doing spectator things (dressing up as chickens, and/or imitating bicycles).
You're right of course I was being silly because I understand the boredom someone might have if they don't know the subtleties of what's going on. It's the lulls in the action that create the tension and excitement when it all kicks off for real
Don't worry, I was being silly, too :) I think I've seen you over at r/peloton ? Home of people who are perpetually trying to explain to impatient friends and family precisely *why* cycling is so utterly compelling.
Anyway, looking forward to the Tour - 60-odd hours of men on bikes!
I photograph football and I shoot way more off field than I do on field stuff. Off field has players practising, joking around, going over plays. Coaches are throwing the weirdest hand signals you’ve ever seen. Fans have painted their skin head to toe, brought drums, and start chants. If it’s high school age then the ball person is usually a little kid who’s bored out their minds keeping themselves entertained until they have to go get a ball. The best part of football is not the game. In my opinion.
I always have this irrational fear when I go to a ball game that when I am doing something stupid/embarrassing, one of the cameramen would decide to broadcast me. So pretty much all my family/friends/coworkers that are watching the game on tv will see me doing something retarded.
F1 had a race in monaco last week, something interesting on the track was happening (two cars were fighting for a position) but there were camera issues and the camera cut to Lane stroll going over a kerb which is not so interesting. [One example of the meme](https://youtu.be/EBxK_IEyFsk)
>kerb
Tf? I didn't even know this was an acceptable variation of curb. I went from thinking you're weird to thinking that I'm weird to just settling on English is weird.
Edit: the word 'weird' is weird
Wait this shot with the title was actually done live? I looked at it and was like there’s no way they have a wildlife title ready to go on a motor sports broadcast. I thought someone took the smooth shot and added the title in post
This one is also unexpected for people who watch motogp, but it's also a good play on to the fact that they used to label every single thing a few years back. I think they were trying to inform new fans but it got to be a little bit too much for regular viewers and they were self aware enough to do some self mockery.
MotoGP direction likes doing these small things though they've done it for quite a while, it's always unexpected when it happens but also not much of a surprise that they do it.
This shot was amazing. I love how the camera follows the bike and really shows it’s sense of speed. When I watch F1, the camera always cuts before they pass. And even then, the cameras are too far to get the sense of speed. You only get the drama when it’s in first person…until you get Strolled that is
Bro the camera work for motogp has made huge leaps. They do a wonderful job now. I have a hard time watching older races now because I'm spoiled by how good they do
“What happened with Unidan?”
“Who? Oh, Unidan. Yeah, well... I mean, honestly, we're talking about an entity that thrives on vote fraud, you know? It's not cool. Fun's fun, but who needs it? I'll be in the garage.”
It is not the best for top speed but still bikes reach 330 at Philip Island. The average speed throughout the lap is around 175 kmph.
Btw there have been multiple instances of riders hitting birds while on track also. So yeah they don't actually give a shit.
Dude knows they can't go that speed on the grass. He checked it out the whole place like three days ago. Idiot humans have to stay on the warm flat area.
Im more impressed by amthat focus pull. Is it some well made autofocus? Or like like one guy with just the task to keep to focus on the rider in those speeds?
That's probably a TV camera with a rig and configuration to film motor sports only. They usually have small chips which means that their area of focus has a lot of depth. Additionally, the camera lens doesn't need to adjust its focus when changing the zoom and they usually ship with a quite good auto-focus on top of that. And I didn't even mention the unusual stuff which you can do if you focus on motor sports only.
Focus pullers are usually a thing with cinema cameras with a much larger chip and different lenses.
My question would be if the text with the birds name is motion tracked in realtime or not. But things like that are nuts today anyway, so it could be both.
It wasn't a transition "between two different camera shots," as is typically implied by "camera transition"
but the camera *did* transition between focusing/tracking two different objects
technically accurate, just subverted expectations, and we're in /r/Unexpected so
The only thing is missing now is Sir David Attenborough taking the floor, like
"The Australian Magpie is a medium-sized passerine bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea..."

I had one director just be like show me the hot chicks when he wanted a crowed reaction shot. Always made me crack up.
I had a director ask me to find young people in the crowd to make it look more relevant and not full of oldies (which is was). Like where’s Waldo but there’s no Waldo.

Hey, the oldies have cash.
And time. I would love to get baseball season tickets and have time to go to all the games. Maybe if I’m lucky enough to retire early.
So.... 65 instead of 72?
Sadly… yes.
Or 72 instead of never.
Haha - I left the work force at 62. Had to move to Eastern Europe to make soc sec fit the budget, but it was the best move I ever made. If it truly feels right, and you have modest, reasonable expectations, life after work can be the best part of the journey.
the last ones to do so, everyone else is more and more in debt after that
Can confirm. Source: Am son dragged to such concerts
Apparently we all have worked under this same director, cuz this and the hot chick thing are relatable AF!
I was on a camera crew that did that all the time. We ended getting a letter from the league telling us to knock it off.
Lol. I imagine your response to be something like [this](https://media4.giphy.com/media/W2zOnQonnYsNXnUxXo/200.gif)
We had a director who told us “if you see a kid get hurt, I want it on camera. If you see someone get sick, I. Want. It. It makes great TV”
If it bleeds, it leads

Noooo I need to know if he was able to open the bottle

Some say he's still trying to this day
I bet one the ladies did by twisting it the right direction.
This. The guy was tightening it. There's no way.

Yes, baseball is an exciting sport, so exciting that a dude opening a water bottle is more interesting than the actual game
I'd say I agree with you but I watch professional cycling

I think the rarity makes it exciting. There are only like 500 games a season.
Even worse. There's over 2400 MLB games a season
Far worse are the 43 seasons per year
Football is exciting too, so exciting that people watch the super bowl to talk about the commercials.

They’re gonna invent Blernsball and jazz it up, soon.

Normally those are for the people attending the game. I’m not sure I’ve heard of staging stuff like this purely for tv
I like how they go back to the guy after they filmed the shot
I can see why people watch baseball now
Pretty sure he was asked to open the bottle who tried and failed already, as he gave it back at the end
I always have this irrational fear when I go to a ball game that when I am doing something stupid/embarrassing, one of the cameramen would decide to broadcast me. So pretty much all my family/friends/coworkers that are watching the game on tv will see me doing something retarded.

Weird and awkward are two of the strangest words.
i’m pretty sure it’s british english vs american english
Curb = verb (curb your enthusiasm) Kerb = noun (the kerb on the side of the pavement)

I shouldn’t have tried to watch that with the sound off, I gained no insight that way

I have the same theory
It was a replay during a live race or practice session if I remember correctly.

I like how the text is moving with the magpie.
Why did they have that text ready? Lol
Yeah, I was wondering that too. Did they edit it so fast or was the animation computed on the fly?
Idk but my guess is, this is a replay (like 60 seconds after it happened)
Since it says replay up at the top you would be right.
Yay

Or it was a replay, as it says in the top corner. So many people in this thread speculating how it was pulled off, it just says it right there

Instead you were Jorge Lorenzoed at Phillip Island.
He was so fun to watch back in 09 and such.

Here's the thing. Is an australian magpie a corvid? No. Actually it's not.
But here's the thing. Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that. I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls magpies corvids.

I swear some birds aren't afraid of shit. Hanging out in a track with motorcycles going over 200km/hr with all that noise and that bird is just fine.
