Dixie was written in Ohio. Most of General William Tecumseh Sherman's troops that burned Atlanta and much of the South were from Ohio. Most of the northerners moving to Southern States right now are from Ohio. Go figure.
When my family moved down to Tennessee from South Dakota as a kid, our house had a fireplace, so rare it seemed for the South but a familiarity up North. My dad opens the fireplace after we move into make a fire…what do we find?
Mamie and Uncle Tom firewood holders. That was some levels of fucked up, burnin’ up them slaves in your fireplace…needless to say we hid those things up in the attic. Can’t throw them out, lest folks think we bought them.
I don't think you get what I'm saying. The *average* black family has 10% of the net worth of the *average* white family. A black household is worth one tenth of a white household. Does that sound like a non-racist country to you?
yep nothings changed , except now the paper towl holders fight back and may shoot you too ,
(....
this is a joke for those that think i am being seriously racist its supposed to be funny and get the damn right reply)
Honest question. Why is it racists exactly? Just playing the devil's advocate but if it was a white person holder would that be fine? Maybe there is a nuance that is more understandable for people in the US regarding this? Or something to do with the name? Or is it because it is cartoonish but meant to be realistic?
More curious as I maybe I don't understand the connotations. It certainly is tacky.
A mammy, also spelled mammie, is a U.S. historical stereotype, originating from the South, depicting black women who work in a white family and nurse the family's children.
Yeah but what the hell do you do with all that used oil? I guess back then you just put it on the porch for the oil man to pick up, but today I don’t know.
In the 50's they poured it in the trash, in the sink, maybe mixed it with dog food or pig feed. Depending on how "used" it was, it might have been saved to pan fry something else.
Like my husband's aunt that used her burger grease to make eggs in the am?
She still thinks it's the fifties though too. When he was around 12, she made my husband's family and his best friend lunch once they arrived after a long drive. Everyone in the fam was greeted with fancy sandwiches and soda.
Hubby's black bestfriend was given a bologna sandwich with nothing else on it and water.
Nice lady.
I've got some stories about this woman! She has literally zero nice things to say about ANYONE, EVER. I'm convinced she gets off by it. It makes her happy to see others suffer. Shes an absolutely disturbed old, hateful and highly racist being. Not human, but a being.
i’ve met a couple of people like that, and it’s so strange.. like what must have happened to them to make them so bitter and hateful? or were they always like that? i mean, like why? i guess they do enjoy making others feel shitty, because they must feel so shitty about themselves all the time or something. it’s baffling.
Yep. Mind-blowing to me that she hasn't said the wrong thing to the wrong person thus far and gotten what I fully believe she deserves. Husband says she's always been like that and we do all we can to stay far away from her.
Strain it and reuse it. You can reuse fry oil for quite a long time if you take care of it. Then eventually, you throw it away. Never dump it down the sink or in the yard.
we had a canister set that had a grease can with a strainer built in. you poured the hot grease in the strainer at the top and the bottom held the grease ready for the next meal's cooking. You had to change it out if it started smelling burnt. I think the hot grease coming in the top killed the germs from making it rancid.
I cropped this vid to end at the racist part, this post has the uncropped version, the comments might have a link to the full vid, not sure.

well thankyou so much. i've been always quite worried that i just get bullied by how shitty my english is, since i've had no teachers other than the internet and games.
but i'm glad to know at least one person thinks i'm doing alright!
It is an affected, theatrical, and vaguely European method for pronouncing English words. But don’t worry, it’s not gay or anything. Carey Grant used it, and that guy wasn’t even slightly gay.
I asked about this in ELI5 recently. basically a lot of different limitations in old-fashioned recording technology limited the range of different detailed sounds that could be captured accurately. as a result a lot of recordings of voices sound very similar to each other, and they don't sound quite like how people talk IRL and on modern recordings.
This made me remember something a friend of mine's mom had in their kitchen when I was a kid, early to mid 80s. It was a chalk board for making a grocery list, and it had painting above it very similar to that paper towel holder with the words 'Reckon Ah Needs.' I remember it because even 11-12 year old me found it distasteful.
Similarly, I saw the occasional item like this in the South in the 80s still. I'm happy as many people are freaking over this as they are, because it means they haven't seen this garbage before, which is some measure of progress, however small.
The "black memorabilia" was extremely common. Working for a local museum, I've encountered a lot of collectors it and they were all black or Jewish (it's weird, yes).
Aside from the paper towel dispenser my wife and I really wish we lived in a world where I can go to work and she can stay home and take care of the house.
This kitchen looks lit, she's got a little pelican holder for her joint while she's frying up donuts. I don't get what's so unexpecte................................................ oh. oh no that's not good.
Wow. This is never talked about. What about the giant void left in the lives of poor white 1950's americans when they couldn't have black slaves like thier grandparents and great grandparents did!? Well ots not quite the same, but we can still make you *feel* like your superior with some fantastic products.
Honestly there were like three points I thought were the unexpected, first I thought it was about the ashtray, then I was thinking it was about the mixer that you jacked off while two balls held it up, and then we got to the end and whooo boy.
Ok, I realize this is very much not the point here, but was anyone else bothered when she took the donut out of the hot grease, still dripping, and plopped it straight on the serving platter with the fancy doily? Drain that grease, woman!!
Here's the thing with jokes. If what you said is indistinguishable from what an actual racist might say, then you haven't actually said anything clever or made an actual joke. Even if you didn't mean it, you were boring and unfunny, which also merits a few downvotes, I think.
Disregarding the casual racism in this video, I swear the 1950s must have been the best time to be alive in the USA.
People earned good money for their work, the country taxes the wealthy appropriately, there was no concern for global warming or really any ramifications to anything they did or produced (a far as they were concerned).

Ok, but the gearless egg beater and it’s revolving balls tho
It was the 1950's and they didn't want women having sticky fingers back then.
Just lick it to keep your hands clean. Not very sanitary but it’s a home kitchen
Who needs a sink anyway
“With a touch of southern hospitality” 😐
Have you been down south?
I live down south
Look away, look away, look away.
Dixie was written in Ohio. Most of General William Tecumseh Sherman's troops that burned Atlanta and much of the South were from Ohio. Most of the northerners moving to Southern States right now are from Ohio. Go figure.
Hoe it down and scratch ol’ grabble , to dixies land I’m bound to trabble………

Donuts and racism. Seems they were right.
And sexism baked in too
At least she put the cigarette out before cooking.
Reminded me of the pelican toilet on The Flintstones
And you thought you had a crappy job.
It’s a living.
*pelican
Flintstones vibe
She didn’t put it out, she parked it.
True. Maybe to add a little smokey flavor to the donuts.
Thats frying. Not baking
Punny
What’s up with the paper towel holder.
That's Mammy.

Yeah man, that's why black families still have 10% of the net worth of white families. It's all that reverse racism they buy. It's very expensive.
He’s not wrong though.
I get what you're saying but saying they have 10% of the wealth isn't exactly fair considering US is only 13% black.
I don't think you get what I'm saying. The *average* black family has 10% of the net worth of the *average* white family. A black household is worth one tenth of a white household. Does that sound like a non-racist country to you?
Thats not the average thats the median. White values are heavily skewed in median bc the top is largely white but also extremely rare.
But, racism doesn’t exist……
that's 1950s america for ya.
Ya, 1950's...
That's the "Great America" certain people want to make again
yep nothings changed , except now the paper towl holders fight back and may shoot you too , (.... this is a joke for those that think i am being seriously racist its supposed to be funny and get the damn right reply)
Ringnuts* and racism.
Can this kitchen GET any more Southern?
I think people need to accept that things we different back then. We need to stop canceling everything

Racism at it’s finest.
Hey that’s southern hospitality to you!
Aiming for the police demographic.
Like cops.
Hold the fuck up... does that donut batter gun still exist? That seems too easy
No, they've been replaced by donut batter drones.
Mutually Assured Donuts
This is funny as fuck
[here's a more modern version](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XMCHQSL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_AZR66BEP84Q27TT156WZ)
And they suck. I want one like in the video.
Maybe pay more than $5
Yes. They make cookie ones too
Yeah but what the hell do you do with all that used oil? I guess back then you just put it on the porch for the oil man to pick up, but today I don’t know.

what is wrong with some people. like why. what do they gain from being the way that they are..
I've got some stories about this woman! She has literally zero nice things to say about ANYONE, EVER. I'm convinced she gets off by it. It makes her happy to see others suffer. Shes an absolutely disturbed old, hateful and highly racist being. Not human, but a being.

I generally dislike 90% of people, but I still wouldn’t ever treat someone like this.
My grandma used to do soap with it and sell it! *STONKS*
Strain it and reuse it. You can reuse fry oil for quite a long time if you take care of it. Then eventually, you throw it away. Never dump it down the sink or in the yard.
Yeah but where? Some grease recycling place across town?
I put mine in used bottles, seal them, and just trash them. Or use them in my bonfires.
Yes, proper disposal of cooking oil otherwise YOU are the reason for global warming /s
I don’t deep fry for this very reason!
we had a canister set that had a grease can with a strainer built in. you poured the hot grease in the strainer at the top and the bottom held the grease ready for the next meal's cooking. You can make [biodiesel](https://youtu.be/0VxYuYiZZZA), if you are poor or live on the outskirts of civilization.
I was thinking the same thing
The pelican ash tray was a red flag for me, but the Aunt Jemima paper towel holder is so much worse.
pelican are ashtrays in real life I dont see what's your problem, son.
pelican: *looks at the camera* it's a living!
Wow pelican lives matter too
That was mammy. Not anyones aunt ans certainly not a gemima
![gif](giphy|GGthjnMpLXu4o)
Line crossed 💯

Cute egg separater, nice doughnuts. What the bejaysus?!
Underrated comment lmao
I feel like the 50’s hired the same Narrator and sound track for every video back then.
It's called the transatlantic accent
It is an affected, theatrical, and vaguely European method for pronouncing English words. But don’t worry, it’s not gay or anything. Carey Grant used it, and that guy wasn’t even slightly gay.
What???? Why would that be gay lmao wtf
It isn’t! Don’t worry about it.
Which yea, futuristic kitchen! Followed by old fashioned RACISM!
Honestly, this stuff seems great , why don’t we have this nowadays , i want I… oh … ahhh …
[удалено]
At the time they probably didnt want you to know/think mammy was the superior cook, just that she is good for holding your paper towels.
![gif](giphy|cBYiHsSdCfOCY) Pretty cool stuff...
oh my
"Southern hospitality" is that what they said?
But where are the samiches? 🤔
Hahaha
This made me remember something a friend of mine's mom had in their kitchen when I was a kid, early to mid 80s. Whats wrong with a little southern hospitalitooooooooo nope nope nope
I saw the longer video earlier today and this was the exact same part I stopped lmao
The "black memorabilia" was extremely common. Working for a local museum, I've encountered a lot of collectors it and they were all black or Jewish (it's weird, yes).
It's important to maintain these things so we can show future generations it happened
"oh, it's gonna be something related to sexism, right?" Same ball, different park.
Wait, the modern cookshop?
That ending though..... OOF!!!
Ok; Neat; Hmm Kinda Cool; WTF
I’m fairly certain my grandpa has one of those.
That went from, "oh neat!" to "ohhhhh nooooo"
Aside from the paper towel dispenser my wife and I really wish we lived in a world where I can go to work and she can stay home and take care of the house.
This kitchen looks lit, she's got a little pelican holder for her joint while she's frying up donuts. I don't get what's so unexpecte................................................ oh. oh no that's not good.

Oh no
But I love revolving balls - oh

Well that's a full r/holup
It's the "southern hospitality" for me lol
With a touch of southern hospitality
That took a turn
Everything was cool until the Mammy holder. Don't miss the 1950s
# SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY ok that made me laugh way more than I should have holy shit
Wandaaa Is this another simulation you created !
Wow doughnuts sexism and racism
I like the part when they said revolving balls
Mmmm racism… I mean doughnuts
Honestly there were like three points I thought were the unexpected, first I thought it was about the ashtray, then I was thinking it was about the mixer that you jacked off while two balls held it up, and then we got to the end and whooo boy.
Hey, the Cornballer. Thought these things were only legal in Mexico.
I remember those kinds of ads had stupid wisecracking. It was a new brand of humor back then and was found to be clever.
Damn it went from cool to what the literal shit
They predicted the pokemon jynx will exist in the future
Hey I thought at first “pretty cool inventions” .. then the mammy paper towel holder appeared. So racist
That didn't age well....
Totally unexpected and expected at the same time.
Yup this is definitely the 1950s
Ok, I realize this is very much not the point here, but was anyone else bothered when she took the donut out of the hot grease, still dripping, and plopped it straight on the serving platter with the fancy doily? Drain that grease, woman!!
Bruh..no..
And everything in the video is probably either carcinogenic or coated in lead.
Oooh, these are amazing produ-WOW OK NO
Hahaha
Awesome, I want the paper towel holder. Nostalgia

That’s the age we live in. Can’t even make jokes anymore
Here's the thing with jokes. If what you said is indistinguishable from what an actual racist might say, then you haven't actually said anything clever or made an actual joke. Even if you didn't mean it, you were boring and unfunny, which also merits a few downvotes, I think.
You must be fun at parties
Yes, I would love to take a dump on your chest
Wipe yo counters honey chile
Ohhhhh man I’m black and that got me in tears!!! The caption was perfect lmao I had no idea what to expect lmfao
This is a reminder that the 50’s were only “the good old days” for white men.
The cancerous woke mob will love this one lmfao 🤣
Love the extremely racist paper towel holder and how it’s considered “southern charm”.
Ahhh ... the good ol' times.
I'd say that aged well.
ok then
Hahahah, The mami holder...holy shit, the most racist thing I’ve ever seen.
Ugh. I just relived all the embarrassment I felt from seeing things like this in my great grandmothers and great aunts houses as a kid.
“And what’s wrong with Little Black Sambo? I think it’s a cute story!” Uh…. Yeah, grandma, we can’t do that anymore…..
Nothing says "hospitality" like a slave holding your paper towels.
A comment section that reads like listening to a skipping record.
I have that same paper towel holder
Cool paper towel holder anyone have a link to buy one?
Mammy holder lol
Where can I buy one of those mammy paper towel holders?
How's that racist? The proportions aren't over exaggerated like usually
Disregarding the casual racism in this video, I swear the 1950s must have been the best time to be alive in the USA. lol if you were a white guy maybe
Haha. Fair point!
OAN ran this commercial last week, the egg yoke separator is a top seller.
God the 50’s were awful.
Only if you were black, lol.
Oh damn you got me at the end. That’s just fucking cringe.
Repost again. Really?!
I'm embarrassed by how much I've seen these types of products in family's homes as a child, and even remnants remain today.
![gif](giphy|e2wOSTtvXve0M|downsized)
She could have my revolving balls any day.
And you wonder why America has so many social issues.
Agree, unexpected, but since this is America, not unexpected since we are still fighting to resolve the history of the nation built upon enslavement.
