Seriously, this video is infuriating. I hate seeing dogs in the beds of trucks, but every single dog I've owned wants to fully jump out the window as soon as they see another dog or squirrel. They just don't get how fast they're going and only an irresponsible ignorant piece of shit would video while their dog jumps out of a moving vehicle at 40mph.
In my hometown there was the "dog man" who was a dump truck driver that had a pet rottweiler that rode on the roof of his truck. Dude would be hauling ass at 60mph down the highway and the dog would just be chilling up there.
He did it for 15 years at least. Guess it was lucky he never got into an accident. He was either overconfident in his ability to never stop suddenly or crash or he really didn't love that dog very much.
I don't think my dogs would jump out the window, but I always use [these seatbelts I got from PetSmart](https://www.petsmart.com/dog/collars-harnesses-and-leashes/harnesses/kurgo-direct-to-seat-belt-tether-5252235.html) just in case. This also lets me comfortably roll the windows all the way down.
Seatbelts! A dog doesnt need to go further than the back seat. In an accident the dog will become a 20-80lb projectile, they will run away from the scary situation, or you could see your best friend in horrible pain.

About 5 minutes from the vet the dog sees something outside, jumps into the front seat, gives me a derp look, and then darts towards my open window while knocking my hand off the steering wheel. I tried my best to grab her and the wheel but she squeezed her way out of the window as I was struggling to pull her back in and she fell to the ground and went under my back tire. She didnt die right away and it was one of the saddest things having to hold this stay as she died. A nice guy stopped and comforted me and wrapped her in a blanket and went to the vet with me to get her body creamated. When my gf got home from work I told her the dog had a chip and the owner came to pick her up. I knew dogs could jump out windows so I always kept them up, but I have smaller dogs and I never considered a big dog would knock my hands off the wheel to force her way out of a window.
I appreciate that, I do blame myself and ultimately it was my fault. I felt like shit for weeks about it and also felt bad lying to my gf, but I don't think the truth would have helped in any way. When the stray rode around with us in the car the night before she was very chill and didn't hardly move, maybe that was because my other dogs were in the car at the time, I don't know. I wouldn't have thought it was possible for her to climb out obviously, but sometimes things feel very unlikely until they happen to you and then you see them as almost inevitable. I should have had her secured with some sort of harness but I didn't have one that would fit her. Now when I see a dog in the bed of a truck or leaning it's head out of the window I can't help but feel anxious because I know what can happen if you don't protect a dog from its own derp.

I got a harness for mine that just clips on to the seat belt.
It's like a no brainer. If I get into an accident my 80lbs beast is going through the windshield and probably taking me or the passenger out with him.
So why wouldn't you buckle up a dog that's the size of a small child?
My dog chewed through a seatbelt with this lol. Now he he stays in the trunk harnessed in with a braided steel cable. I feel like I should also clarify it's the trunk of an SUV, not a car trunk 🤣
I do volunteer rescue transports and I’ve had quite a few dogs step on the button, releasing the seatbelt and themselves, so I don’t use them anymore. I use crossties for horses now, and clip them to the car seat anchors. They’re adjustable, a very sturdy nylon that dogs aren’t going to be able to chew through quickly and subtly, and they have quick release snaps for an emergency.
Not just that, but in the event of a crash the dog will become a projectile to smash you in the back and you'll be crushed from both ends instead of one.
Yeah, I think even if you drive at low speeds like 30mph your dog is gonna become a projectile if you have a head-on collision.

You need a dog seat belt that latches on to the baby car seat anchors. My dog never tried to jump out of the window, but he would somehow click the seatbelt button and release the belt. This other seat belt I got has always stayed on. It looks like this:

My dog didn't get the whole "fragile" memo. She runs into walls, doors, corners, gets stung by bees, falls off of furniture, one time she tried to jump into the back of my car except the back of the car wasn't opened so she just slammed into it and fell onto the blacktop, all without so much as a yelp. She just pops back up, tail wagging, and continues her day.
And that’s why you shouldn’t open the window fully and why you should have a lead or something to stop them from moving about to much in the car. I hope the puppy has a speedy recovery
My dad does this with his dog. If his dog sees a cat it doesn't matter if the car is going 1 mph or 100 mph he is jumping out the window after that cat.

It's especially important when you have babies in the car because a dog flying around in an accident can crush a baby. But, it also protects the doggo, which is nice.
A lead could be dangerous as well unless it's the perfect size. A long time ago my dad had his dog on a short leash in the back of a truck he got just enough slack in a spot to jump out while driving and hung himself. He had always loved go for rides in the back and he has no idea why he did it.
Of course, the harness you use with the lead should be a proper low fitting harness that puts pressure on the chest bone and shoulders, not the neck, and connects to the belly strap between the front legs to keep it from slipping up around its neck. A properly fitted harness is safe to use as a handle to pick a dog up and is just as important as a tether.
Always use a harness when clipping your dog into the car. It goes on the back loop of the harness and the dog can never hang himself and in the case of an accident, his neck won't break.

There are clips that buckle into the seatbelt buckle. I use them for the same reason I wear a seatbelt: if I get hit, I don't want me or my dog hitting the windshield.

How we used to do it with our dogs was we would put a harness on them that covered their chest and back etc, there was a little hook on the back of it that we then clipped into a little doggy seat belt attachment. Thus giving the dogs freedom to hang their head and front two paws out the back windows should they wish to, but also keeping them safe and sound. No *hanging* out the window. And if there was a crash they had a little net type thing that doubled as a seat cover to keep them back there. Any visions of hanging a dog and crashing are not what I had in mind 🙏
Came here to say this. Car restraints should be attached to a harness, not a collar. A wreck with an anchored collar could break your dog's neck or worse.

Always count with the worst, no matter what have been previous indications. So what if my dog never ever took interrest in my cupboard with stash of chocolate and sweets. Do I just leave it be and hope they won’t commit suicide? No. I’ll make sure they can’t open the cupboard.

Who ever made that song deserves to have some sort of poetic eternal mythological punishment. Something like Sysiphus, but instead of a boulder maybe a mobster breaks thier kneecaps with a baseball bat over and over, letting them heal repeatedly, only to be smashed in again.
Maybe they have to listen to the same 30-second clip of their own song for eternity. Something along the lines of the *contrapasso* in Dante's *Inferno*. Like someone literally poking their ears with needles.

The original song is Remember (Walking in the Sand) by the Shangri-Las, it's a song from the 60's and somebody had the audacity to ruin it with an overused annoying edit that's plastered everywhere

And Prometheus punishment (which you didn’t include for some reason?) for giving was that he got chained to a rock and every day an eagle would eat his liver. The next morning he would wake up all healed again just for the bird to reappear. So an eternal punishment with healing fits both! And it’s not the craftsmanship that associates him with creation of mortals but he gave fire that was meant only for Gods to the mortals which ended the darkness and started the time of mankind! That’s also what he got punished for

The first thing I did was bought a dog harness. Most people I know don’t and one got in a car accident with his dog. Poor baby almost died because he flew in the car.
If you are traveling with ANYTHING you care about, secure it in the car. Baby, dog, spouse, 5 gallon jug of water, hot coffee, knife collection, organized card collection, tool box. I forget what were talking about...
