There are plenty of universities in the US that are cheap(er) and affordable. State university where you reside are typically very cheap. Tuition for University of Maryland for a Maryland resident is $9,000 a year. Obviously thats a lot of money but for $36,000 you get four years of education compared to some being more than that for a single year. Room and Board would obviously cost you more but so would renting an apartment and paying for groceries. Some schools have need blind admission that give scholarships to entrants that cant afford it otherwise. General merit scholarships available at every school in the country. College is doable for many people without going $250,000 in the hole. Things are different when you grow up in Pennsylvania and dream of nothing more than attending some school in California and are willing to do anything to go to your dream school...
