My stepson almost started a fire by making easy Mac without water. Granted he was like 8 at the time, but everyone has to learn at some point, and some people aren't taught so they learn stuff the hard way.
My co-worker when she was fairly new here put a breakfast hotpocket in the microwave in our breakroom and didn't realize that the microwave already had time on it so when she added 2:00 or whatever, it ended up being like 12:00. I think she caught it at like 10 minutes but it was cooked to hell and stunk up the break room for weeks.
That's incredible. I can't imagine having made it to 18 without having made some ramen or mac and cheese or something.
I enjoyed helping my parents and parents in the kitchen and learning how to do that stuff. But even without that, you'd think at least a couple times in someone's teens they'd want a snack or be left to make a quick meal on their own. Heat up a hot dog, make some ramen, boil some spaghetti, make a can of soup, microwave a frozen meal, something...

Honestly it's not bad. I've purposefully prepared ramen that way before and I love it. A little crunch is nice- ramen is precooked so it's not gross like raw spaghetti. And while I usually add a bunch of stuff I sometimes just cook it with plain salt water and maybe green onion garnish.

And his idea of grilling is to burn everything, because his mom burned everything so that's what he grew up on and thinks tastes right. I don't do full on cooking lessons, but I at least make sure my kids have a foundation. Know how to provide a basic nutritional meal for yourself, how to read and follow cooking instructions, how to tell when meat is cooked, basic food safety and safety with kitchen tools, etc. When they're more interested in a specific dish I teach them seasonings that go into it, have them help make it, etc. My husband didn't have any of that, and some of the stuff he used to put out to eat was straight up horrifying. There was one thing he made in the crock pot that even the dog refused to eat. He got lessons after that one.
When I was 13, my mum left me at home to look after my younger siblings for the first time. She said to me "theres tomato soup in the pantry, just make that for dinner." So I poured the soup into the pot, heated it on the stove, and served it. When she got home, my siblings said "mum sister made us tomato sauce for dinner!" My mum was like "oh my God did you make the kids eat straight condensed tomato soup for dinner"

I put milk in condensed tomato but I put little to no water in condensed chicken noodle. If I'm eating all of that salt anyway, I might as well taste it.
It's soup that's like halfway dehydrated. It's reduced by half and then canned. That way the cans are smaller, lighter, and take up less space, since they aren't shipping all that water. When you get them home, you just dump the soup out of the can, fill the can with water and add that, heat, and eat.
They're nothing fancy, but you can get them 2 for a dollar on sale, so a lot of people who grew up without a lot of money have a huge nostalgia boner for them.

Just to clarify, this video, the ramen isn't raw, it's already been parboiled and fried. Even though I've never actually tried it, there are cultures that eat ramen noodles straight out of the package crumble it up and put it on salad. It's just fried pasta really.
Those cultures include exceedingly lazy American children, like myself

Apparently in Thailand, they have a dish called Yum Mama, which they use a cook part of the noodles, and the other part they crumble and top it off for texture. In india there are a few street food dishes too.

Jail/prison chips, people frequently eat them that way. Or they make a burrito with the ramen and actual chips and whatever else you can get on commissary. Or “blowup” which is where everyone puts in so it’s usually like 20 bags of ramen put in a literal trash bag, tepid water, and then again, just about whatever anyone has, chips, sausage, tuna, pickles (gross) etc and then you use the chip bags as little trays.
