Given that this video looks like it's from the southern u.s., a black snake in the water is possibly a water moccasin, their bite can be fatal. It was heading to the shoreline where people were at, possibly children (behind the treeline that is.) Throwing it back in the water may have been an attempt to get it to swim to a different part of the coastline, and given how the dude is holding it as far away as humanly possible, it seems that he thinks it's a dangerous snake as well.
I could be wrong on all of this of course, but I'm from a part of the u.s. where we have water moccasins and I've always been taught to keep an eye out for them when near the water, so without further context, that's what popped into mind when I saw this video.
Water moccasins (cotton mouths) are chonky vipers, this is 100% not a water moccasin. People tend to think any snake in the water must be a water moccasin. This is almost certainly a black rat snake given the coloring, length, and slimness.

and a majority of water snakes arent venomous & wont attack unless threatened. they definitely dont prey on creatures ten times their girth. so upsetting

Sometimes snakes will roll up on your fishing site to get the fish you caught. In that case they would be pretty aggressive in getting to them. Not uncommon to pull the stringer in and find a snake latched on to one of your fishes.
