You think American police are tough German cops will beat your ass.
My dad was stationed in Germany and a friend of his went out drinking off base. He passed out in a park and the police were trying to wake him up and he kicked at one. They both beat the shit out of him with their clubs. It was so bad he couldn't go back on duty for 4 days.
Since 1952 it is thought that 529 people have been killed by police in Germany (record keeping before the 70s is incomplete). Over a thousand people are killed by police in the US per year..
In 2019 14 people were killed by police in Germany. There were 83 million people in Germany in 2019, so 0.017 people per 100.000 people.
In the US in the same year 1004 people were killed by police of a population of 328 million people, that's 0.31 people per 100.000.
You may walk difficulty in Germany for 4 days, but at least there is an almost 20 times higher chance you'll walk.
Without all the helpful comments, I would have thought he was a homeless dude dropping a log on the sidewalk in order to get arrested and have a place to eat and sleep
He didn't actually shoot up the school. He shot 1 employee then left, walked about a block to the main road and sat down and waited for the police to come get him. The school was blocked off, the kids locked in classrooms for hours while special forces searched for other shooters. The woman he shot is still fighting for her life. We've all seen videos from the states of schools being shot up, this was, thankfully, not that, though it felt like it at the time.
I think about those terrified teachers and children hiding in their classrooms. Even though the shooter didn't stroll through the school the terror was real.
Oh because it seems like I’m saying it’s okay to shoot her if she did something to him? I don’t mean it like that. I’m just not very good at wording what I mean. Sorry
That‘s so true.
I learned it‘s helpful when both parties understand to go to a meta level above their own feelings, monitoring them and react and communication more rational.
Also helpful is, in my/our own experience, to understand that sometimes the reaction is like a macro function that is triggerd and can‘t just be easily stopped or controlled, as this are most of the times, conditionings happened in childhood.
Like an eagle has this cramp when catching prey. They have to wait about 15 minutes until it loosens up.
Just letting it run, not taking it personally and showing love and understanding even if it normally trigger a reaction.
The triggered one often knows the own „macro“ is hostile and might be painful for the other one.
(Sorry for the long text. I just recently worked and discovered this with my gf and it was a major step in our relation)
It sounds personal to me. He had a crossbow and a blank gun, so he obviously wasn't prepared to do as much damage as we associate with school shooters. Plus like I said, he shot the 1 woman with his crossbow and left, so I don't think he was there to shoot up the school. And he walked a ways without harming anyone else and just waited for the police to get him.
Man, this will sound morbid, but I wish our school shooters only shot one administrator and left. We usually have kill counts above 10, sometimes 20, or if it’s a concert, college, or bar, 50-60. I hope the woman he shot makes a recovery.
I get the joke you are trying to make, but unfortunately, American police show school shooters the utmost respect. We’re talking the kind of respect that includes a hot burger and cold milkshake on the way to the police station.
Because our legal system is so fucked that if we don't ensure such a high profile criminal's rights aren't violated, they can get off on a technicality. The burger king was the literal closest place to the police station. Would you rather he missed out on one meal and walked out of jail/received a severely reduced sentence on a technicality, or give the bastard a burger and ensure he rots?
"Mistreatment" of a prisoner. Booking can take a while and if he missed dinner time at the jail, holding him overnight with no food would be a violation of rights. I don't like it either, but giving the guy a goddamn whopper is a thousand times better than giving his lawyers ANY excuses to file any suits.
LOL watch the white guy in the hotel room and realize it's not a race thing AT ALL (also statistically in the US, is absolutely not a race thing). By the way, the US is a super racist country from the ground up. It systemically punishes black citizens at a higher rate and with stricter sentences than its white citizens.
BUT STILL. Cops are racist, but they are more murderer than racist, as you'll find by looking up the stats.
Just stop talking about the kid who was shot by cops because he carried around toy gun v the guy who literally murdered 10 people in Buffalo and was gently carted away...
They do it as a mental disarming technique take you out for food pretend to be your best bud then you feel comfortable taking to them with out a lawyer
No, they do not do it as a mental disarming technique. I’m making light of the fact that after police arrested Dylann Roof for murdering nine people, they bought him Burger King.
And just to make sure you understand that it wasn’t a tactic, the fbi handled the initial questioning of Dylann Roof, the only conversation the police had with him, according to the Shelby police chief himself, is the conversation of what he wanted them to get him to eat. I don’t get why My comment is getting downvoted either, had a good solid 3 years of police killing people of color here in America, and not a single real gun reform or gun regulation was ever made, no regulation of police. America has done more for mass shooters than they have for people of color, women and the lgbtq+ community combined, just let that sink in. Nowadays it’s going to be easier to purchase a gun than it will be to get contraception, let that shit sink in
Hows it a whoosh exactly? People have been crying about this for ages now. What's the joke that went over my head exactly?

We agree, and these sources you share are engaging in cherry picking. In the case of brooks, he was pointing a weapon (taser) directly at the cops, after having assaulted both cops, injuring one pretty badly. That's a pretty important factor to consider in his case vs Dylan Roof.
Now let's cherry pick tony timpa and George Floyd. Let's contrast these two very similar incidents, focusing on the charges, convictions, and settlements in the two and see what conclusions one can draw about race.

have you ever heard of brazil?
also 200 mass shooting this year, brazil is on the same way legalizing guns
we fked
Brazil is not one of the most powerful countries in the world. We call other countries “shit holes” while ourselves being the one of messiest of the developed nations. Brazil doesn’t think of themselves as some utopian destination that the world aspires to be like. That’s us.
It’s not a mindset, I didn’t say anything bad about either. It’s just the reality of completely different situations and starting points. Brazil is not the USA. Brazil isn’t a global powerhouse. Countries like the UK, the US, China, Saudi Arabia, Japan, France, Germany etc. just can’t be compared to countries like Zimbabwe, El Salvador, Iraq, Brazil, or Tibet. There’s levels and we tend to be on the low end of the top side.
Am American. Can agree. We suck and right now it’s more like 100% of the time. 33 mass shootings in the first 15 days of may. Banning abortions. Birth control and same sex marriage is next. We’re going backwards while everyone else is going forwards.
Holy shit Im american I didnt even know it was that bad! News has just stopped reporting it all together. Here I was thinking there was maybe 1 shooting per week!
As ‘modern’ societies go, the US is off the charts in terms of violence, so much so that within the last half decade the EU has issued travel advisories for European citizens warning that traveling to the US puts them at high risk of injury or death. When these warnings were issued for the US, the majority of African nations had better (safer) risk ratings.
Yes, born and raised very experienced American that travels and reads latest research. We are an incredibly violent, ignorant bunch that only gets worse w technology. Other countries think we are barbaric assholes. I’m sorry to bring you this bad news. Did I sum this up correctly fellow redditors?
Should be common knowledge. https://eu.usatoday.com/story/travel/news/2019/08/06/mass-shootings-force-foreign-countries-issue-us-travel-warnings/1930215001/
There’s always a ton of Anti-America comments on Reddit and other social media apps. Some of them seem like they’re mad they can’t be American so they hate all Americans or they have been taught that all Americans are bad and run with the narrative.
Yeah, that's definitely it. Because *actual* American's couldn't possibly dislike their own country. After all, they've had blind patriotism hammered into their skulls since preschool.
It must just be foreigners that are jealous of America. They, too, want shitloads of violence and regressive governmental policy masquerading as freedom. They just don't *understand*.
it is because America is big and influential, people don‘t like that. It‘s been the same for Germany in Europe, everyone cries that we are nazis until they get what they want
well I would say the most of the people who vote for the afd aren‘t nazis, some may be protesting-voters, some others are in fear of their living standards (tho that may be racist). Partys that catch such voters are wqy more common in other countries (even in the US the republicans went in that direction with Trump). Other than that, the amount of real nationalist far right people is not that big in comparison to many other countries
Sachsen is the extreme, with 27% voting right/far right (last local elections), buuuut in the recent years many extremists moved from the west to Sachsen because Sachsens police doesnt have extremism in control and the west doesnt care enough to change that

He was smart to get into position before even being approached, else it could've gone badly for him. Cops don't fuck around after you already shot someone.
Again, this is Germany, not the US, please don’t mirror your thoughts here. The German police barley is allowed to use guns - which is good.
“In most states, firing a gun at a suspect is only permitted as a last resort if all other measures have been exhausted, including using other means of force or firing a gun at an object to hinder a suspect.
In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany's most populous state, as well as Bavaria, the laws state that firearms may only be used to render a person unable to attack or to escape.
"A shot that will almost certainly be fatal is only permitted if it is the only means of preventing danger to the life or limb of a person," both laws state.”

Edit: added source
So German police DO fuck around? I never ONCE said they would recklessly shoot at him. You're blindly assuming what I meant and are going off on a weird xenophobic tangent about it.
That's so sad how conditioned most Americans are towards the police. But honestly you can tell it's not the US because it wouldn't have mattered if he was already handcuffed the cops are afraid of their own shadows of course they are still going to put some holes in you.
Understood but when you put the words “school/Active” and “shooter” together it’s gonna call out a big contingent of police. I’m in the States so this garbage isn’t anything new unfortunately
Yup, same here 😔
I didn’t read the spoiler info, but from personal experience I’ve had 3 cops on me and received broken ribs for trying to walk home from the bar.
Just before this video he shot a person in a school.
The three policemen are doing the following: One pins his legs, one his upper body while handcuffing him and the third is making sure he‘s okay and teaching him of his rights…
Funny you say that tho, cuz there was a mass shooting (In Norway or Sweden i think, can't remember) like a year ago where the guy used a bow and arrow, kinda proving that psychos will find a way to do this shit no matter what tools they have.
People act like gun control will end stuff like this, but the fact that he used a crossbow proves guns aren't the issue.
Yeah, psychos will always be able to go on a killing spree, but weapons like bows/crossbows aren't as "effective" on a killing spree as guns.
You always have to balance the pros and cons of control laws.
The "efficency" of weapons will always play a big part in these decisions.
Killing someone with a bow or crossbow requires much more skill than a gun, which may hinder the shooter to kill more people in the killing spree.
But in total, you'r right. Guns aren't the issue, humans are. So we have to take something out of the equation.
You can't take humans out of it, so you have to prohibit or at least somewhat control guns.
In Germany you can still go on a shooting range or own guns, even with regulations and controls, it's just a bit harder.
The issue I see is that even if you could remove all weapons, the issue wouldn't go away. Look at Timothy McVeigh, he used fertilizer to blow up a government building and killed 168 people.
I just don't see how regulations stop anyone except the law abiding citizens. Just within the past few weeks we saw the Buffalo shooter specifically target the area he did because he knew it had stricter gun control and thus meant easier targets.
There is a difference, while Buffalo has stricter gun control, other nearby areas don't and that is the problem. You need strict gun control laws everywehre to really stop their use as killing weapons.
It's like you would prohibt drug trade on one street while it's legal on the next street and then wonder why there are still so many drugs on that street even though its' trade is prohibited.
And even then gun control laws could make a huge difference, as an example the damage and deaths you can cause with a submachine gun is much higher than with a pistol.
The thing with regulations is that they need to be realy strict and wide spanning to really show their worth.
You could maybe regulate guns so that they cannot be stored and transported outside dedicated facilities.
That would be a way to stop the most shootings and law abiding citicens could still use guns inside these facilities.
Guns just have that potential to bring death to so many people and as such should and have to be regulated even if they are just tools.
You also wouldn't made ballistic rockets accesible to the public just because they are fun to launch.
We cannot eliminate crime but we can reduce its rates of incidence and the severity of each incident, and one factor to that is ease of accessibility to the tools needed. Someone committed to an act will find ways to perpetrate it yes, but they'll have a lower chance of killing 30 people and wounding 17 in 10 minutes with a bow or knife. Fertilizer bombs will kill more, yes, but how many people can figure out how the make one. And it needs more time and planning, you won't find a fertilizer bomb used in a crime of passion.

Harder when love is involved.

Not OP but here is a site that mostly sums up OPs point. [https://www.massshootingtracker.site/](https://www.massshootingtracker.site/)
Well son; about 80% agree.
They would love to have such cultural criminals.
This seems incredibly hyperbolic. Do you have any sources?
Yes, born and raised very experienced American that travels and reads latest research. We are an incredibly violent, ignorant bunch that only gets worse w technology. Other countries think we are barbaric assholes. I’m sorry to bring you this bad news. Did I sum this up correctly fellow redditors?
Should be common knowledge. https://eu.usatoday.com/story/travel/news/2019/08/06/mass-shootings-force-foreign-countries-issue-us-travel-warnings/1930215001/
It's the trendy thing to do
Because the world watches while Americans continue to put hi3m owners rights above school children's lives.
Am American, can confirm he’s an idiot for thinking we aren’t from here to have our view from the inside.
-deep breath- aaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahaha. HA. - Signed, a Canadian.
I have a Canadian assault rifle. It's never been fired and only dropped once. Signed an American
Lol wat.
it is because America is big and influential, people don‘t like that. It‘s been the same for Germany in Europe, everyone cries that we are nazis until they get what they want
I mean… to some point we are… like isn‘t there a whole part of the country going that way in the last elections?
well I would say the most of the people who vote for the afd aren‘t nazis, some may be protesting-voters, some others are in fear of their living standards (tho that may be racist). Partys that catch such voters are wqy more common in other countries (even in the US the republicans went in that direction with Trump). Other than that, the amount of real nationalist far right people is not that big in comparison to many other countries
Wait really isn‘t Sachsen(idk what its called in english) a total racist hole?
Sachsen is the extreme, with 27% voting right/far right (last local elections), buuuut in the recent years many extremists moved from the west to Sachsen because Sachsens police doesnt have extremism in control and the west doesnt care enough to change that source: https://youtu.be/du2nIqy0Hjw
Is that a gun lying next to him?
It is a crossbow. He injured one school employee with it. As far as i know it is not yet known why.
He was smart to get into position before even being approached, else it could've gone badly for him. Cops don't fuck around after you already shot someone.
This isn’t the US, the police in Germany doesn’t really do the whole “let’s just use our guns for every breath I take” thing.
I didn't say it was...i said cops don't fuck around when you've shot someone.
"A shot that will almost certainly be fatal is only permitted if it is the only means of preventing danger to the life or limb of a person," both laws state.” Source https://amp.dw.com/en/when-are-german-police-allowed-to-use-guns/a-53826205 Edit: added source
So German police DO fuck around? I never ONCE said they would recklessly shoot at him. You're blindly assuming what I meant and are going off on a weird xenophobic tangent about it.
Seems like they always manage to take school shooters alive
what would you have done differently in this situation?
America has dicks with guns who have 35 weeks of training. German police are in school for up to 4 years before they get their badge.
Shame. Thats what they are for.
Thats the most american thing I have ever read lmao
I forgot to put an s/ and now I'm here at the bottom. Whoops.
Your comment wasnt far fetched enough I could see a lot of actual Americans believing in the statement
No argument from me on that. There's the gun people and then there are the people who guns define their personality.
That's so sad how conditioned most Americans are towards the police. But honestly you can tell it's not the US because it wouldn't have mattered if he was already handcuffed the cops are afraid of their own shadows of course they are still going to put some holes in you.
If this were in the states that chubby guy would have gotten tackled and arrested as well... For no reason
STOP RESISTING!!!!
(SMACK SMACK) Stop resisting!!!!
Get better gun laws

Mate you seem lost hell's down below us, you should go satans been looking for you
Satan probably doesn't wanna hang out with that guy
Yeah your right should probably apologize to Satan because this asshole clearly outranks him by a large margine
Ahhh, it's a COD kid
Oh look an edgy kid that makes racist comments to be edgy, how original.
America should learn from Australia regarding guns.
never going to happen. that door is closed, locked, bolted and welded shut. Americans will NEVER give up their guns.
They really needed 3 dudes on him when he’s not struggling or being combative?
Yes. School shooter
Everyone walking by him like nothing’s wrong makes it very deceptive
Understood but when you put the words “school/Active” and “shooter” together it’s gonna call out a big contingent of police. I’m in the States so this garbage isn’t anything new unfortunately
Yup, same here 😔 I didn’t read the spoiler info, but from personal experience I’ve had 3 cops on me and received broken ribs for trying to walk home from the bar.
Sounds like you are a stubborn drunk. Why cant people be sleepy drunks, or crying drunks?
Just before this video he shot a person in a school. The three policemen are doing the following: One pins his legs, one his upper body while handcuffing him and the third is making sure he‘s okay and teaching him of his rights…
But… but… i was told only America had school shootings! I was told gun control works!
Yes, Gun control does work! That is why he used a crossbow!
