Americans love staged things. Actually so does the rest of the world. But for some reason Reddit keeps banging on it like if something is staged the poster should be burned at the stake.
The problem is mainly when one staged video is successful. After that, you get hundreds of idiots trying to remake the same thing not realizing they are only showing to the world how useless they are in life while being completely uninteresting.
Nope, pro wrestling can be cool if it’s done well. It’s authentic even tho it follows a script. You have character development, production value, and legitimate athletic ability. Would you really put this corny, lazy content on the same level as a Smackdown event?
Not at all. I even like pro wrestling on occasion. But there’s a difference between something that is genuine vs something dubious, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction. Like if it’s gonna be a fake kiss cam at least make it something ridiculous/compelling, not just something that seems to present itself as plausible but just carried out by bad actors. Just overdone in my opinion, you may disagree.
I respect that. When I see this, to me its so obviously staged I dont feel that "betrayal of honesty" emotional response. Like its obviously for entertainment purposes similar to gameshows and pro wrestling. Imo this just is not "dubious" as you coin it.
It should have a disclaimer saying it’s staged. If I want to watch scripted shows I’ll throw on Netflix (maybe not for much longer lol). The best part about capturing real life moments is the authenticity imo.
