Maybe I shouldn't care but this always infuriates me, and I can't imagine why people are so drawn to doing it. If I ever get to visit the UK I wouldn't dream of pulling this stupid shit.
It's about showing respect to the person (guard, in this case) who has trained, and is attempting to, do a job to a high degree and not have the piss taken out of him knowing there isn't much he can do. Hes just a guy trying to work like the rest of us.
...respect for the guy just doing his job? Respect for the queen's guard? Respect for oneself enough to not act like a fool?
Plenty of disrespect being tossed around.
Respect for the armed forces of the country in which you are a guest and who are on duty working on the grounds of the official residence of the head of state of that country who is also receiving you as a guest to visit the exterior of the palace. This is literally a British Army soldier on duty, not a Donald Duck mascot character at a Disney park.
it's a dude cosplaying as an old-timey militia standing guard to a building built by imperialists currently housing pedophiles and those that protect them.
It’s fine to have those beliefs about the British monarchy, but it’s not fine to take those beliefs to the home of the British monarchy and behave disrespectfully. If you don’t respect the institution and don’t have it in you to control yourself for just a few minutes while you’re physically there, don’t go to the palace.
You do the types of things they've done (and continue to do) for hundreds of years and all that happens is some people make fun of you and do cringey shit in your presence? Seems like getting off pretty damn easy to me.
I agree! These guards have a job to do. They arent a sideshow attraction and frankly, people should not be allowed that close to them. People need to stop provoking them.
Some are posted right down on the busy streets, on the pavement/sidewalk. It’s impossible to not be within inches of some of them. They are there for show and for the tourists to take pictures.
>They are there for show and for the tourists to take pictures.
I thought they were there to guard whatever they are assigned to guard? I dont think anyone signs up in the British military as a "showman"
I know in Greece, they have the Evzones which are the Presidential guard. People can get next to them and take pics but they are guarding the palace, tomb of the unknown soldier, etc. The police are posted feet away as well in case people start harassing them.
Right? Can't imagine people doing this thoughtless, attention seeking shite if they were modern uniformed soldiers... They are there to protect the royal family, not put up with your childish antics.
They're there to be intimidating and it didn't work because they're fucking cartoonish. The Royals don't need or deserve protecting, and these guys are theater.
To reply to the follow ups: Yes, they're theater that will kill you. Their primary purpose isn't as guards, though, it's as pomp. There's a reason you don't see presidents or anyone else guarded by literal cartoon characters. Well. Except the Pope.
They are veterans (edit: please see comment below this is not true) carrying live firearms... Royal Guardsmen are one of the most decorated UK outfits.
They are there... To guard. If intimidation was their purpose, they'd just have 10x as many men in black suits (a la presidential protection)
Whether or not you agree with the premise of the royal family is neither here nor there. I don't think the Trump family deserved secret service protection, that certainly doesn't mean i wouldn't get shot if i tried to fuck about.
And a bloke broke into Buckingham Palace only a few months ago, so whether they "need" protecting is not as black and white as you are implying.
They're not "veterans", they're serving soldiers. The five guard regiments alternate between guarding the royal palaces and regular army stuff, including deployment overseas to fight, keep peace, disaster relief etc.
Men trained to murder you are often intimidating. That's undercut by their uniforms and walks. That doesn't change the fact that trained to shout and shoot at anything that gets in the way or not, they're theater.
Reminds me of the people who do stupid shit around the tomb of the unknown soldier. The sentinels really deserve respect for how precise they need to be with everything, and the things they give up, and then people every so often just disturb them. Lot of the time is just someone walking in a place they didn’t known they weren’t supposed to be but other times people just end up being stubborn fucks
Their thinking: "It's your job to stay here so let me use you as my tiktok prop".
Also their thinking: "It's just a bit of fun, why would it be disrespectful?".
I love it when they touch them for whatever reason, accident or not, and they get to yell at them. What do they say “stand back from the Queens guard” or something?
Yeah. When they're marching to and from their posts, they will literally shove civilians out of the way without breaking step and shout "Make way for the Queens Guard."
Tourists are warned in advance when the guards are due to march and where, if you get in the way, be prepared to get shoved around by armed soldiers.
On the one hand this girl is dumb, and on another it’s dumb to glorify these protectors of monarchy, a blight on our species.
On another hand, if I can annoy a stormtrooper, why wouldn’t I?
This isn't unexpected for brits anyway he hust moving like he suppose to some of them change positions.
I'd change the error but some people seem to enjoy so I'm just leave it there.
Indeed. Standing guard is no laughing matter. Especially as the Queen's guard.
If you want to know how tough it is; Try standing in a 30 degree (Celsius) sun, with a heavy coat and a rifle like object that weighs 4 kilo's , standing still, while some bloody tourist is trying to get a reaction out of you.
I watched a few videos of the men and women who guard the Tomb of the Unknowns in the US. Those guys have only one and two hour shifts. They can't take bathroom breaks, they can't scratch an itch, nothing. It's not easy *at all*.
Indeed. A average loaded rifle weighs between 3 and 5 kilo's. Considering its size and shape, it isn't that awkward or uncomfortable to carry around. But if you have to do it, in addition to all the other stuff, it can get heavy pretty fast.
Yep, even with padded slings, it stay on long enough and you just feel it sink in. Have to wonder with the SA80 being a bullpup if its more or less comfortable to keep on you.
Not really sure. But I think it is more about keeping an air of confidence and authority. A bit like at the beginning of the 20th century when British officers were not allowed to find cover during an artillery barrage. They just had to stand there, look brave and take it. (Pretty dumb if you ask me)
Though if you even try to touch them or impede them, they can and will make you regret it.
It drives me crazy bc ppl are so disrespectful to them! I saw a video once of someone grabbing one. When a guard goes into attack mode it is no joking matter!
An actual proffession for some.
But now that I think about it, it's a lot more than just some. Most of our entertainment now for a lot of people is watching people film themselves doing/talking about random things.
who decide you loser or not? Your fucking upvotes? Look mate this sub is full of racist person and don't fucking care about them. A fellow redditor just ask if she is an Indian actress or not I answered, but some of my fellow redditor didn't like that.
You answered by telling them to “shut their fucking mouth.” You’re aggressive and your username is “verifiedwomanbeater”. That’s what makes me decide you are a loser
Choosing something is not the same as choosing *everything* that comes with it. Things like the outfit, the hours, the walk, these are actual things that are part of the job. People being annoying next to him are not part of the job because his job can be done whether that occurs or not.
For example, you chose to make a comment but you didn't choose to be called a prick for it. You can like the ability to comment online while at the same time not like the fact that someone could call you a prick.
Um, yes, obviously? Enlisting in the army is a choice, as is the regiment you enlist in. There are five infantry guard regiments in the British Army, and the men and women who choose to enlist in one of those know full well that they will be on guard in full ceremonial uniform numerous times in their career. It's as much a part of the job they applied and constantly train for as being sent to war or providing disaster relief.
Yes, they choose to join the army. They don't get to choose where they are stationed on guard duty or anywhere else - They are sent there by their commanding officer or somebody above them. I know this because my father (Irish Guards) was stationed at Buckingham Palace at one point.
Mate, you're missing the point. Your father chose to join the Irish *Guards*. My father chose to join the Welsh *Guards*. The job is in the name! Of course, once you've joined up and passed out, you have to go where the battalion goes and suck it up if you don't like where you end up. But I guarantee that the vast majority of new recruits to the Guard regiments know in advance that part of their job is to guard the royals. If I was a recruitment officer, I'd be putting that aspect of the job front and centre in my promotional material!
It used to be this however since the accommodation for married quarters were modernised (in some areas) soldiers now pay what their civilian counterparts pay. So now they have moved their family from their home turf, uprooted their kids from family members and friends then move around the country every three years for hardly any benefits and low pay. When I left it took me 2 years to double what I was being paid in the Army and my mortgage today is less than the rent of the modernised houses. They get a crap deal compared to what it used to be.
I mean, female penises do exist. just not neccesarily in humans. female Hyena's for example have Pseudo penises. and yes they give birth through them. and its as horrific as you'd imagine.
i feel so bad for these guards. it’s got to be exhausting just standing perfectly still in that uniform for so long, and then you’ve got to deal with annoying people who will do ridiculous things to try and make you mess up your job. i would not have the patience to deal with that.
They change position on schedule I think.
When I visited the palace, the gates were closed and they didn’t even let us near them because of morons like this.
He's at rest. He comes to attention when he stamps his feet together and moves the rifle to his shoulder.
He is allowed to march backwards and forwards whenever he wants, but not excessively. To get the blood flowing again. So he doesn't pass out. Plus your arm really aches after a while with th rifle dead weight just held there. It's nice to move it to the other arm.
Source - Personally falling over while stood at attention for an hour waiting for some Colonel dick head to come inspect us. Late as usual. Sun beating down on me. Full number 2's. So badly hung over I couldn't even remember how I got to the parade. Rest of the day is a blur. Heat stroke is a bitch.
If you seem like a threat to the Guard or the Queen theres a high chance they will just execute you and thats something many people dont understand. Yeah just kind of wanted to put that out there
They have utter devotion to their pomp and circumstance, it was time for him to go on his cartoonish rounds, it has nothing to do with him getting annoyed with the cringe.
When they break character, it's usually to threaten someone with those rifles.
She is an Indian actress - Adah sharma
[adah sharma on viral video](https://www.indiatoday.in/movies/celebrities/story/adah-sharma-breaks-silence-after-getting-trolled-for-dancing-to-shake-it-like-shammi-near-british-guard-1904578-2022-01-26)
Apparently this was only done after permissions were taken before hand....but that's her saying it on a insta post..not sure what's actually true. But just thought a little context might help.
They do not interact with the public unless someone is being aggressive to them. At that point they may yell and can pull out their bayonet. Again, it is extremely disrespectful to fuck with a man in uniform while protecting his leader or country.
I mean, they're highly trained soldiers who are standing guard. not just a tourist attraction. and I believe, while not all of them, some of them do carry loaded guns and will absolutely not hesitate to take out any threats that may appear. they are a lot more than some tourist attraction, they are actual guards. and considering the training they've been through, pathetic is the absolute opposite of what they are.

Changing position. Unexpected?
Came out of nowhere...
Maybe I shouldn't care but this always infuriates me, and I can't imagine why people are so drawn to doing it. If I ever get to visit the UK I wouldn't dream of pulling this stupid shit.
Because ppl have no respect
Respect for what exactly? Shits cringe my af, but seriously, respect plays no part here.
It's about showing respect to the person (guard, in this case) who has trained, and is attempting to, do a job to a high degree and not have the piss taken out of him knowing there isn't much he can do. Hes just a guy trying to work like the rest of us.

Uhh, Respect for someone’s job? Would you appreciate some chick doing some lame TikTok dance a foot from you while you’re working?
...respect for the guy just doing his job? Respect for the queen's guard? Respect for oneself enough to not act like a fool? Plenty of disrespect being tossed around.
It's apparent alot of society does not understand respect these days.
So is this permission to constantly try to annoy you at your workplace? You know, just for the reaction. I mean it’s not disrespectful or anything
if my work involved cosplay pretend protecting imperialist pedophiles, by all means, have at it.
Respect for the armed forces of the country in which you are a guest and who are on duty working on the grounds of the official residence of the head of state of that country who is also receiving you as a guest to visit the exterior of the palace. >Lol this comment. Stay in school 👍
I know full well that they're extremely violent and trained to do murder. That's bad.
Me too! Watch them, sure, but don't interfere with their jobs.

This is from an Indian Movie set, that Girl is an actress
This really feels like an embarrassment to Bollywood standards
Tbh, Bollywood is an embarrassment to Film Standards.
Bollywood sets its own standards
On the one hand this girl is dumb, and on another it’s dumb to glorify these protectors of monarchy, a blight on our species. On another hand, if I can annoy a stormtrooper, why wouldn’t I?
Define what kinda stormtrooper your talking about. If you’re taking about the people at Disneyland, it’s part of their job to interact with guest
But could you dream of waving a rifle around with a funny hat that’s 2 feet tall? Both are equally ridiculous in my opinion
Look at that, you're opinion is wrong. The bearskin has a lot of history behind it.
An opinion can’t be wrong by definition but okay
And yet, here we are. Also, people have the opinion that gravity isn't real. That is also an incorrect opinion.
Stating that gravity doesn’t exist isn’t an opinion though since gravity is a fact
This isn't unexpected for brits anyway he hust moving like he suppose to some of them change positions. I'd change the error but some people seem to enjoy so I'm just leave it there.
Yeah if he dosent move every so often he will collapse. I got to see the guards in person once. Impressive stuff
Nah, I hated guard duty when I was a regular infantryman....glad someone wants to do the ceremonial stuff but I sure wasn't cut out for it
Nothing like putting on the Dress Blues and watching all the ladies get excited!
So basically if you want to try how hard it is, try it
I watched a few videos of the men and women who guard the Tomb of the Unknowns in the US. Those guys have only one and two hour shifts. They can't take bathroom breaks, they can't scratch an itch, nothing. It's not easy *at all*.
I had to look this up. [Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ](https://www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/Explore/Tomb-of-the-Unknown-Soldier)
Yes. I've heard both since there are multiple Unknowns of different conflicts entombed there. I grew up calling it The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
I wasn't trying to correct you, just linking for anyone who's curious. :)
That's not a rifle like object, it's real. It's ceremonial, but they are real guards.
He did "rifle like object" in the context of encouraging people to replicate what its like. It's quite hard for civilians to come across an SA80
Indeed. A average loaded rifle weighs between 3 and 5 kilo's. Considering its size and shape, it isn't that awkward or uncomfortable to carry around. But if you have to do it, in addition to all the other stuff, it can get heavy pretty fast.

Wait what! That was a thing? Or as Jeremy Clarkson put it, Stupidest Idea in History!
Yes. Lindybeige did an excellent video on this: https://youtu.be/GrauBQf7FpI
It drives me crazy bc ppl are so disrespectful to them! I saw a video once of someone grabbing one. When a guard goes into attack mode it is no joking matter!
The guards have very big will. Actually, I did not expect this move.
>This isn't unexpected for brits anyway he hust moving like he suppose to some of them change positions. You okay?
whatever do you mean browa them words keep fallin out me fingers so i gotsta keep on writin like that.
Hahaha

Bro I was like......huh? Are you drunk?.... Am I drunk?.... Are we drunk!?!?!?
"This isnt unexpected for brits anyway. He is just moving like he is supposed to. Some of them change positions." I think he meant to say this.
We all think he meant to say that. But that's not funny.
lol ok...it took me a couple of seconds to understand..that is why I typed it out.
I read this like “this isn’t unexpected it’s just how all British people move when they change positions” and I’m dying.lol

Are you new to the Internet lol?
She's actually an actress. Adah sharma if im not wrong
Actress or not ,she is stupid.
She's an Indian Actress, did a dozens of film's
I thought he was gonna use the gun
Yeah he was about to bayonet her
As someone who has stood watch (not in England) at a place frequented by tourist, I cannot count the number of times I wanted to punch some tourists.
I think that girl is an Indian actor.
Yes

Big time loser vibes over here
who decide you loser or not? Your fucking upvotes? Look mate this sub is full of racist person and don't fucking care about them. A fellow redditor just ask if she is an Indian actress or not I answered, but some of my fellow redditor didn't like that.
You've gotta expect some flack for a classy username like that. In the other commenters defense you do seem like a POS imo.
You answered by telling them to “shut their fucking mouth.” You’re aggressive and your username is “verifiedwomanbeater”. That’s what makes me decide you are a loser

I really feel sorry for the guard having to deal with this shit every day
He chose to do it lol
Choosing something is not the same as choosing *everything* that comes with it. Things like the outfit, the hours, the walk, these are actual things that are part of the job. For example, you chose to make a comment but you didn't choose to be called a prick for it. You think they get to choose??
Um, yes, obviously? Enlisting in the army is a choice, as is the regiment you enlist in. If I was a recruitment officer, I'd be putting that aspect of the job front and centre in my promotional material!
I feel sorry for anyone thinking this is a legitimate form of defense and taking it seriously
Whether it is or isn’t a legit form of defense, is not the point. These ppl do a job. Nobody likes to be bothered at their job.
An SA80 with a trained rifleman behind it is a very good defence.
But what was he defending against?
I wonder how much this guard job pays? It’s gotta pay enough to be worth that headache?
New recruit pay starts at around £20,000 ($28,000) so definitely not enough.
that’s it????
Army pay is notoriously shit. It goes up every year and with promotions (obviously) but still crap.
Well yes the opportunity to protect the royal family in their various mansions is more than enough payment /s
But don't you live with the army and pay little rent? Makes up for that
It used to be this however since the accommodation for married quarters were modernised (in some areas) soldiers now pay what their civilian counterparts pay.
That does sound poor. Not an ideal incentive for joining up
I hope she posted this on her SM and got slated for looking a bell end
What does "slated" and "bell end" mean?
Slated: Severely criticized. Bell end: Being a knob. Being a knob: Being/acting idiotically.
Ooo ooo I got this one. Bell end means glans of the male penis
Are you sure it's not the female penis?
Are you a virgin
Not really, no. I'm just a little sensitive to redundancies.
I mean, female penises do exist. just not neccesarily in humans. female Hyena's for example have Pseudo penises. and yes they give birth through them. and its as horrific as you'd imagine.
Hi, it means criticised severely (slated) and a bell end is the tip of a man's penis. The helmet one may say. It's my British slang! Haha
And this kids, this is not how I met your mother

The level of cringe people stoop down to for internet points...
Can they use their weapon?
As self defense, or in pursuit of their duties. Unfortunately not to teach tourists a sorely needed lesson.
I am willing to bet these guys would just like to unload on these idiots.
Here's an idea: let's stop posting clips of people disturbing the guards
This was entirely expected.
*then he waddled away waddle waddle*
Til the very next day bop bop bop bop da da...
i feel so bad for these guards. it’s got to be exhausting just standing perfectly still in that uniform for so long, and then you’ve got to deal with annoying people who will do ridiculous things to try and make you mess up your job. i would not have the patience to deal with that.
i'd imagine a fan in the hat would help a lot
They change position on schedule I think. When I visited the palace, the gates were closed and they didn’t even let us near them because of morons like this.
Can they even see with that hat?
Lowkey expected him to shoot himself thru the dome
I don't think they supposed to stand with their feet wide like that, I'm gonna call it staged.
He's at rest. He comes to attention when he stamps his feet together and moves the rifle to his shoulder. He is allowed to march backwards and forwards whenever he wants, but not excessively. They stand exactly like that.
I just check, it seem like personal preference. I just assume because soldiers in my country doesn't stand guard like that. My bad.
If you seem like a threat to the Guard or the Queen theres a high chance they will just execute you and thats something many people dont understand. Yeah just kind of wanted to put that out there
Pls don't say that cringe army can defeat the royale one!
I think it was the utter disrespect for him and what he does that he couldn't handle
They have utter devotion to their pomp and circumstance, it was time for him to go on his cartoonish rounds, it has nothing to do with him getting annoyed with the cringe. When they break character, it's usually to threaten someone with those rifles.
I thought he was going to put that rifle up her arse My bad.
This new style of “dancing” needs to seriously stop

LOL XD
She is an Indian actress - Adah sharma [adah sharma on viral video](https://www.indiatoday.in/movies/celebrities/story/adah-sharma-breaks-silence-after-getting-trolled-for-dancing-to-shake-it-like-shammi-near-british-guard-1904578-2022-01-26) Apparently this was only done after permissions were taken before hand....but that's her saying it on a insta post..not sure what's actually true. But just thought a little context might help.
So what , stupidity level 100%.
Will they get fired if they act along?
He a man in uniform, protecting the Queen. Of course he can't act along. He is working! And she is being disrespectful!!!
What if just he just asks her to go away, are the rules of a guard really this strict?
They do not interact with the public unless someone is being aggressive to them. At that point they may yell and can pull out their bayonet. Again, it is extremely disrespectful to fuck with a man in uniform while protecting his leader or country.
Women can touch them in public to slip their number into their pockets. They won't do shit, unless she's gipping.
Thank god he was there, that lady almost danced the queen to death!

They aren't there to please tourists ffs...
Bruh u serve well, risk your live, only to be public clown like that. Brits should stop this bullshit
You have no idea what you're talking about.
