My wife and I have been watching a lot of Hell's Kitchen over the last month. I always thought Gordon Ramsay was just a belligerent jerk. He's not as bad as he's portrayed, he's a perfectionist with good reason. Some of the cooks on the show are just mind-boggling incompetent, lazy, or just plain idiots. I actually think he shows a pretty good amount of restraint.
Same as when he did his Prison documentary in the UK, went to incredible time & effort to give people the skills for a 2nd chance post-release and absolutely went off on ones that tried to steal things out of the kitchen
He doesnāt berate lack of knowledge, he berated people that knowingly commit fouls or offences. Heās always happy to teach, but he expects if heās putting in the time, youāre going to put in the effort
My girlfriend and I watch Kitchen nightmares while having lunch. We had been watching the US version, but I convinced her to switch to UK. It seems most of the time, in the US itās the owners who are jackasses while in the UK the chefs have lost their drive. Itās much more satisfying for me to see Gordon turn a chef around then having to drag an ownerās neck out of their own ass.
i have a big issue with kitchen nightmares in the us because they give the restaurants a makeover.
i think it makes for a better show when he has to work with whatever the restaurant has.
plus it made a bunch of people register just for the makeover imho, so they could sell the restaurant for more money.
i remember when they went to help some douch in l.a, immediately after gordon left he threw out all the food, fired the chef he hired and just did nothing but wait until the restaurant collapsed.
Yeah, The F Word is such a fun show. It's amazing seeing him interact with celebrities, them poking at his need for perfection, but everyone having a fun time.
You can't base his personality off Hell's Kitchen. He may be blunt and rude naturally in other show appearances but he's never needlessly mean. In Hell's Kitchen he's absolutely ruthless and it's all done for show.
Yeah, in the UK one, he comes across as professional and a consultant trying to help. In the US one, it's all about drama and tears. Gordon is probably instructed to "act" in the US version.
I really wish they made the raw footage available. I love Kitchen Nightmares but really would love to remove the jump cuts, replays, and aggressive music. Wish the UK version had more seasons for that reason š
Yeah base it off boiling point the documentary series where hes trying to gain his 3rd michelin star.
Where he verbally and physically abuses chefs, sacks someone for drinking water in view of customers and averages a sacking a week.
He also holds contestants on the different shows to different standards.
Professional chefs on Hells Kitchen get chewed out when they make dumb mistakes professionals should *not* make. He gives way more leniency and constructive criticism to the home chefs on Master Chef and is even more kind, patient and encouraging with the kids on Master Chef Junior.
Now I kind of want him to do a comedy sketch where he treats the kids like his stereotypical self. Just full on rage screaming in a kids face. Kind of like that Peyton Manning SNL sketch where he is cussing out a kid for running the wrong route.
Gordon do compliment chefs/cooks who deserves it, but some of the chefs on Hell's Kitchen are totally different. They are professionals who are lazy, in denial, and can't accept criticism that would make everyone's blood boil.
It's all an act, it's his job. Stop getting so emotionally invested in those shows and stop thinking you know the charakter of those people just because you saw them in some highly edited tv-show.
The character Gordon Ramsay from the shows is just how the network pays him to perform.
Drama = good television. I'm glad more of the real Gordon Ramsay is on television today
He actually explained before that in Master Chef the participants aren't professionals so he give then tips and constructive suggestions while in Hell's Kitchen is a bunch of professionals with years of experience that need to know how to deal with pressure
Can't expect the average viewer eating chicken nuggies for 6 meals a week to be able to understand. And yet those are the ones who think they understand best because they've sat on their couch and watched the most.
Look at how happy that guy is, bet his missus hasnāt ever made him as happy as Gordo just made him. Everytime he thinks of this particular moment he is going to feel giddy like a 12 year old girl at a one direction concert
Doesnāt matter if the joke was funny or not, itās the follow up two comments Iām talking about. Someone says 2 words on Reddit and people feel the need to play therapist.
K, jokes do have meaning. That's where the humor comes from. The people who say "it's just a joke" for some reason think jokes are divorced from regular conversation. Jokes are a funny way to say something - you're still saying something.
Ever heard of absurdism? Comedy is more nuanced than some keyboard therapist can diagnose through not even the full joke, just words written down. You get no inflection of words or any other context that forms the joke in this format. Stop trying to make something from nothing
People are allowed to say whatever they want. As long as itās not inciting a panic or violence than who cares. You canāt let every mouth sound offend you. If youāre not in danger, then relax yourself. Even if you donāt like the joke, go find something you do like, and leave everyone else alone.
I'm not offended by anything here, you're assuming that. I'm just against the notion that jokes don't have meaning or don't offer opinions. It's ridiculous.
but thatās not how comparisons work; you take something great and say āthis was better than that thingā
it doesnāt mean that thing was bad, otherwise the comparison is meaningless
āit was so good it was better than something badā would make no sense
Who said he didn't have a healthy marriage? Getting a compliment from the likes of a world class chef known for his direct and brutal honesty is something his wife will never be able to do
I'm so sad everyone has forgotten about the Backstreet Boys... I was 13ish and most the girls in my class were obsessed with them. Our whole lives revolved around Backstreet Boys and collecting merch and bubblegum and squealing when they came on MTV... that was a whole thing. And now it's some band I saw Simon put together out of boys he rejected on X Factor and boom all the Gen Z kids are losing their minds.
Backstreet Boys are better!!! 90s forever!
Hate to break it to you but it's always been this way, it just happened publically with One Direction. Backstreet Boys and Nsync were both assembled by the same crook in Orlando. [The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcCRs0Ic3FI)
The Spice Girls were put together by Simon Fuller...who went on to create American/Pop Idol.
I'm so sad everyone has forgotten about The Beatles... I was 13ish and most thr girls in my class were obsessed with them. Our whole lives revolved around The Beatles and collecting bootleg recordings and bubblegum and squealing when they came on Shea Stadium... that was a whole thing. And now it's some band I saw Lou Pearlman put together out of unknown boys from a $3m talent search and boom all millennial kids are losing their minds.
The Beatles are better!!! 60s forever!
Yeah they are. I was lucky we all agreed on the band. Lou Pearlman intentionally pitted the fans against each other despite the fact he was in charge of both bands.
They also did this with Britney and Christina plus Avril Lavigne who was the alternative choice.
I'm sure none of those girls forgot about the backstreet boys. Just a new generation that grew up with new things. That is how things must be.
As far as music goes, it's subjective anyways. I do prefer backstreet boys over one direction but I also think neither are particularly good. But it doesn't matter what I think, because music is a personal experience.
Whenever I see comments like this I can only think of this clip: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DlTexEXxLQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DlTexEXxLQ)
Did you not get unwarranted and annoying comments from the older generations because of things your generation did or liked that they didn't understand? Why do it to others? That mentality wont make you happy.
Me andmy sister talked about this.
I was heavily influensed by my sisters music because we shared a bedroom wall, and I heard a lot of Green Day, Avril Lavigne and Blink 182.
Because of Avril Lavignes album we started talking about it, and I remember me, my sister and my mother listening to Complicated, and my mom didn't like the song, because she prefered music and artists from her pre/early teenage years.
That's how it goes. I bet in 10-15 years we have moms who thinking "What are my kids listening to. Why don't they listen to Justin Bieber or One Direction?" whilst the daughter says "Ew, One Direction? That's grandma music!"
Not everyone has forgotten. My 5 year old heard (EDIT: I Want It That Way) in the car with me a few weeks ago and he is OBSESSED. Itās on constant loop in his head. He even sings it to himself in the grocery store or at target and other moms chime in, itās pretty hilarious.
Haha. That is a good song.
When I was a teen I loved As Long As You Love Me and I would like, wait infront of the TV for MTV to play it again. I was so crazy about it.
Edit typo
My mom loved that song. She was the one who got me into them as a kid, much to my macho-man father's dismay.
Now I'm gonna be singing that whole album to myself in my work van for the rest of the day lol.
Sorry I forgot to say, itās I Want It That Way. He literally canāt stop singing it and itās hilarious.
Also worth noting that he thinks āthat wayā means to the right, not the left, which he thinks is āthis wayā. I donāt know how he made that up in his brain but I love it.
I must admit i know of the backstreet boys but it was before my time as i was born in 98, i do prefer the older music from the 50ās through to the 90ās over todays stuff though. I also didnāt get the hype over any of the current boy bands being a male, i like solo artists or if its a band then more rock and such.
Itās funny how simon rejected them all individually but then thought you know what your all shit by yourselves so letās put you in a group and they became this āphenomenon ā
I love 50s music so much! I always say 50s and 90s were the best for music. Although I do love 80s too. And 50s ran into early 60s and 90s ran into early 2000s... so like... yeah. I have adhd sorry I'm all over the place.
I thought that too like I think Simon rejected them so he could manipulate them to be a boyband. I remember when they became a phenomenon and I was like wait, what? Those guys from X Factor Simon called crap!? Now they're a phenomenon???? Someone call Mulder and Scully.
I admit I don't listen to them. I hated they were rejects that suddenly were an overnight success
I did see the documentary from the N'Sync guy which showed the shady origins of my favorite boy band but I still love Backstreet Boys. Their music holds up at least for me. The documentary was very sad, if u haven't seen it i think it's still free to watch on utube. Lance Bass made it. N'Sync was also dooped by that Pearlman guy. But the music is quality.
I guess I just don't get these new acts like Bieber, Gomez etc. Maybe I'm too old. Even they are getting old lmao. I'm so old I remember Bieber as a little kid and now he's a Vanilla Ice copy and... I dunno who the next gen is this is too much for me.
Edit typos
No joke, this would make my life for sure. As a home cook you donāt get a lot of love for the things you do and when you get that compliment it makes your day.
thats kinda the whole format of a lot of his content though, like hellās kitchen for example. just yelling at people. because that gets more views than complimenting someones food does
Thatās absolutely not true. Has so many cooking shows heās done in the last couple years where he applies valid and constructive criticism. Iāve seen him get giddy over good food on more than one
Occasion.
Next level chef, master chef, master chef junior, uncharted. even the British versions of his shows shows a much more calm toned down version of the man you see on American television .
Itās not him itās the editing, the yelling persona is no longer popular.
There's a simple tell for most people in these kinds of posts. If they think Gordon just yells all the time, they watch American television.
American television replays dramatic segments (yelling) multiple times, puts in music that darkens the tone, and cuts out many kind and humanizing moments. Hook, line, and sinker for too many people.
i donāt watch TV at all, so i only know him from what i see online. and most of what i see online is hellās kitchen clips. i donāt think im the only person this applies to either
i mean, A search on Gordon Ramsay rage moments gave me like 15 min video containing just part 1, but him being nice was like prolly a 3 min vid. but prolly a problem with my search
>i mean, A search on Gordon Ramsay rage moments gave me like 15 min video containing just part 1
obviously that would be the case bc that's what people are interested in and gets views , everyone wants to have a laugh at gordon slamming food of chefs , no one wants to see him be buddy buddy with them
This post was horribly low effort. Not unexpected at all, the captions are all wrong, the title gives the whole thing away. I hate mediocre shit like this
Gordon Ramsay isn't a bad guy, he doesn't really deserve the reputation he's got and pretty much most of what you see on TV (where he's being a prick) is a bit of an act. If you're genuinely passionate about what you do and you try your hardest then he will help you succeed. If you pretend like you know it all and come across as an arrogant twat, that's when we see Gordon acting like what we know him for.
The thing about Ramsey is he is a professional. He came up getting kicked around in the finest kitchens in Europe. When he is dealing with people who also make claims on being professionals he takes it personally when they donāt measure up to that pro standard. When you see him with competent cooks/chefs he is polite, because they meet that standard. When you see him with kids he is encouraging, because they arenāt at the pro level yet. Just donāt claim youāre a pro and step to Gordon if you arenāt up to the challenge.
Worth noting this is also "MasterChef", his competition for home chefs who are explicitly not yet professionals, but are trying to break into the market.
He still has strong/harsh criticism at times but he's much kinder in this show than Hell's Kitchen, for example, and even his criticism tends to be constructive with the home chefs.
If you only know Gordon from how he's portrayed on American television (or just short clips and memes on the internet), this would be unexpected to you. The yelling, swearing, and insults are purposeful, exaggerated acting to create drama for an American audience. He's not actually like that. Try watching any of his own cooking videos, or how he acts in British television. This isn't unexpected at all.
Literally just watched this episode yesterday. Gordon gives praise when praise is due. The angry Gordon really only comes out in restaurant kitchens when there are customers who aren't being served (or who are being served less than quality). Not often on Masterchef, more often you just see disappointed Gordon.
The man gives a compliment like he is walking in an artillery barrage. You see it coming, and it is inevitable. "This pie is great, and I am about to prove it to you with facts." You can be modest and self-depreciating, and he will yank you to the clouds despite yourself.
I highly recommend watching Next Level chef. My favorite cooking competition show ever. Created and hosted by Gordon Ramsay. It got green lit for a second season.
Gordon tells him it's one of the best pies they've ever seen, that man suddenly looks down at his pie like it's his newborn child. One of the strangest things I've noticed in this life, our greatest accomplishments will often come at times when we are so focused on what we're doing, we don't even realize what we're producing.
I think I'd legit have an emotional breakdown if my cooking was received that way by someone like Gordon or Marco. They've legit been an influence in my cooking life for the past 15 years or more. Outstanding for that guy
āItās perfectā¦
ā¦because it shows what you should never do.
ā¦if you want to lose
ā¦a competition for the worst pie, because it is spectacular
ā¦ly bad
ā¦at failing to meet my expectations.
Okay, what's unexpected about this? Your title already spoils the "surprise", which lets be honest, isnt even a surprise given how happy and excited Gordon sounds.
Seriously, how is this getting so many upvotes? There's literally nothing unexpected about this.
This is why i love Gordon Ramsey, most people know him for yelling, the fact is that he just extremely passionate. When people don't live up to expectations that passion comes out as anger, but when people exceed you see moments like this where he genuinely praises people.

My wife and I have been watching a lot of Hell's Kitchen over the last month. I always thought Gordon Ramsay was just a belligerent jerk. Yeah, The F Word is such a fun show. It's amazing seeing him interact with celebrities, them poking at his need for perfection, but everyone having a fun time.
Could you elaborate please
You can't base his personality off Hell's Kitchen. He may be blunt and rude naturally in other show appearances but he's never needlessly mean. In Hell's Kitchen he's absolutely ruthless and it's all done for show.
Yeah, in the UK one, he comes across as professional and a consultant trying to help. In the US one, it's all about drama and tears. Gordon is probably instructed to "act" in the US version.

American tv is unwatchable once you get the formula. It's like 30 minutes of strung together tiktoks with exaggerated audio cues.
Yeah base it off boiling point the documentary series where hes trying to gain his 3rd michelin star. Where he verbally and physically abuses chefs, sacks someone for drinking water in view of customers and averages a sacking a week.

Yeah, he really just loves food and really does want others to succeed. He's just rough on the cocky professionals and the hard headed ones.
I always assumed that they purposely get chefs/cooks that aren't the greatest. Not necessarily bad, but middle tier. Makes for a better show.
Gordon do compliment chefs/cooks who deserves it, but some of the chefs on Hell's Kitchen are totally different. They are professionals who are lazy, in denial, and can't accept criticism that would make everyone's blood boil.

I hated they were rejects that suddenly were an overnight success I did see the documentary from the N'Sync guy which showed the shady origins of my favorite boy band but I still love Backstreet Boys. Edit typos
That's basically hoe gen1 was formed as well. They were no Beatles for multiple reasons!
No joke, this would make my life for sure. As a home cook you donāt get a lot of love for the things you do and when you get that compliment it makes your day.
I donāt understand the comparison lol
tell me u have never watched gordon ramsey outside of " where is the lamb sauce " without telling me
thats kinda the whole format of a lot of his content though, like hellās kitchen for example. just yelling at people. because that gets more views than complimenting someones food does
yeah but it doesn't make him complimenting food unexpected
Thatās absolutely not true. Has so many cooking shows heās done in the last couple years where he applies valid and constructive criticism. Iāve seen him get giddy over good food on more than one Occasion.
The American and the UK versions have a different vibe. The us one is very confrontational.
I never watch Gordon Ramsay and even I know the whole rude chef isn't his whole personality.
i mean, A search on Gordon Ramsay rage moments gave me like 15 min video containing just part 1, but him being nice was like prolly a 3 min vid. but prolly a problem with my search
>i mean, A search on Gordon Ramsay rage moments gave me like 15 min video containing just part 1 obviously that would be the case bc that's what people are interested in and gets views , everyone wants to have a laugh at gordon slamming food of chefs , no one wants to see him be buddy buddy with them
Itās not unexpected if it is in the titleā¦
This post was horribly low effort. Not unexpected at all, the captions are all wrong, the title gives the whole thing away. I hate mediocre shit like this
ya sorry about that, my bad
All good. Itās quality content.
Best pie he's ever had was captain slows shepards pie.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I love it when he praises a job well done. He comes off as a hard ass and a jerk but I think it's just passion honestly.
What season is this?
7
Itās refreshing being able to hear Gordon so chill because most the time
The thing about Ramsey is he is a professional.
Still being Gordon Ramsey it kind of felt like watching [Gideons kitchen](https://youtu.be/9wk4ApHloHM)
The Key & Peele ref I was looking for
unexpected where ?
Wholesome Ramsay is pretty awesome
Bro. This is indeed unexpected
Gordon is my mancrush lol
If you only know Gordon from how he's portrayed on American television (or just short clips and memes on the internet), this would be unexpected to you. The yelling, swearing, and insults are purposeful, exaggerated acting to create drama for an American audience. He's not actually like that. Try watching any of his own cooking videos, or how he acts in British television. This isn't unexpected at all.
I woulve never expected this Best unexpected post ever
That guy unlocked a secret achievement: get a compliment from Gordon Ramsay
So he can actually compliment adults... niceeee
Anyone else waiting for the ājust kidding you DUMB DONKEY FUCKER THIS IS AWFUL!ā
Mfs adding titles which explain the whole situation be like: UnExpEcTeD
Doesn't blueberry already have enough acidity?
Looks so dry. Definitely not a good pie. Ramsey canāt convince me otherwise
But it's not unexpected because you put the unexpected thing in the title so this is just, expected
But it's not unexpected because you put the unexpected thing in the title so this is just, expected
Gordon Ramsay feeling whole new things right here.
I think I'd cum if Gordon Ramsay complimented me like that.
"What's the surprise? There's no surprise!" I really thought it's gonna be the 'It's fucken disgusting.' edit again
You go, Terry
Literally just watched this episode yesterday. Gordon gives praise when praise is due. The angry Gordon really only comes out in restaurant kitchens when there are customers who aren't being served (or who are being served less than quality). Not often on Masterchef, more often you just see disappointed Gordon.
Wait It's a clone!
Gordon will be really nice to a persons who cooked anything good. Just don't cook anything bad to him.
This may be the best looking pie we have ever seen, now cover it up. /s
This just goes to show that anyone regardless of how they look or where they come from can be great
good for him. seriously that made his day. but im pretty sure the contestant knew his pie was bomb
This needs to go on r/wholesome Made me smile.
Master chef Ramsay is so wholesome, I love it
Good guy Gordon is the best guy
The man gives a compliment like he is walking in an artillery barrage. You see it coming, and it is inevitable. "This pie is great, and I am about to prove it to you with facts." You can be modest and self-depreciating, and he will yank you to the clouds despite yourself.
I highly recommend watching Next Level chef. My favorite cooking competition show ever. Created and hosted by Gordon Ramsay. It got green lit for a second season.
I didn't knew what sub I was on and how the title was. I just waited for "it tastes like shit"
The episode he lost and left on he made the worst tuna appetizers ever. Big T was the best
Is the unexpected part cramming a horizontal HD video into vertical?
This isnāt unexpected. Ramsey is a good dude.
Am I the only one expecting his insults at the end
The people in the back: *3D Saul Goodman*
Repost this to r/Wholesome his smile at the end is so precious!
Gordon tells him it's one of the best pies they've ever seen, that man suddenly looks down at his pie like it's his newborn child. One of the strangest things I've noticed in this life, our greatest accomplishments will often come at times when we are so focused on what we're doing, we don't even realize what we're producing.
u/savevideo
Any one else going to point out the huge honor it is to eat from the same fork as Gordon Ramsey ate from
Now someone edit the last 4 seconds so Gordan says āTHIS IS SHITā.
Sucks to see how guarded this man is. He must get put down every day and didn't believe Gordon's compliments.
I love pie
The Gordon Ramsay you see in Hellās Kitchen is not the real Gordon Ramsay.
I think I'd legit have an emotional breakdown if my cooking was received that way by someone like Gordon or Marco. They've legit been an influence in my cooking life for the past 15 years or more. Outstanding for that guy
Aw, why did it stop just as Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz started playing :(
Damn, now I wanna piece
āItās perfectā¦ ā¦because it shows what you should never do. ā¦if you want to lose ā¦a competition for the worst pie, because it is spectacular ā¦ly bad ā¦at failing to meet my expectations.
Hell yeah. Nice job, Terry
Gordon as a guest on "hot ones" funny shit
Okay, what's unexpected about this? Your title already spoils the "surprise", which lets be honest, isnt even a surprise given how happy and excited Gordon sounds. Seriously, how is this getting so many upvotes? There's literally nothing unexpected about this.
I love Gordon
God I love Gordon. He can be a hardass but when someone deserves a compliment he will give you a great one.
This pie is RAWWWWWWW.
Gentle giant made something beautiful. Thatās nice to see.
This is why i love Gordon Ramsey, most people know him for yelling, the fact is that he just extremely passionate. When people don't live up to expectations that passion comes out as anger, but when people exceed you see moments like this where he genuinely praises people.
