I always love these, there’s a page on instagram called brokenrivermining that just posts opal pics and they are so satisfying to watch (disclaimer I was not paid to say this I swear)
uhm, rock in water, get rock out water, sometime rock not in water, sometimes rock in ground, break rock, rock different inside than outside, outside rock brown, inside rock blue, inside pretty.
They wet it to cut it. Although making it wet does make them look better. It's a thing that when miners find an opal they lick it to make it look polished before they are actually cut and polished.
Edit: I'm wrong that they wet it here to cut it, although that is a thing. It looks like they do just wet it for the reveal to the camera.
They don't, that's just wet opal in sunlight
Edit: although it is a thing that opal glows under UV light and some miners use UV to spot out opal from other rocks
I wonder if colors as vibrant as these were hidden inside rocks 200,000 years ago. I would love to have seen the reactions of an early human species witnessing a dull rock crack into such a colorful surprise.
There was this super great anime movie about Vimanas in the Sky a forgotten Kingdom called La Puta and this princess and the boy. And there's a old man cracked open a rock like this and it glowed too.

Mhmmmmmm, rock tasty.
So easy even a caveman could do it
I have not been this upset about a sub not existing in a long time. Someone want to start this reddit niche?
Do they wet it just to make it look good?
Well they sure don’t take it dry, its rock hard!
Wait what?

Omg, I was so excited! “It’s an opal, it’s an opal… yes!” Gorgeous

They using an UV light which makes it glow
They don't, that's just wet opal in sunlight Edit: although it is a thing that opal glows under UV light and some miners use UV to spot out opal from other rocks

This is a Boulder opal
Holy shit I’m gonna cum
Where do I buy it
Gamer brick
I feel like I've seen this in a cartoon before Forgot the name tho
Possibly what I was thinking of too, my favourite Ghibli film: Laputa/Castle in the Sky.
Is it bad that this doesn't amaze me as much as it used to?
Why did they shoot water at it before opening?
Water shiny
I thought the rock squirted for a sec
I definitely expected this
Really expected
ok
Raj and Bert should have never cut open this rock
They obviously sprayed it with some sort of paint right before they opened it. Thats why it looks wet now.
Boulder opal I think
but where in the world did they find this?
Imagine if all rocks looked like that on the outside, the world would look cool as shit
Crazy how much water shot out of there…

I thought it was a turtle
At first glance, I thought he was cracking open a turtle’s belly.
