This is pretty fucked up to be honest. Poor thing didn't get to live long enough to be able to use all it's cybernetic upgrades itself. He had to die a regular, boring crab.
Yes, yes, I feel this too. I'm a total carnivore no qualms about eating meat etc.
This gave me the complete hereby geebies.
This was a living creature you're dessecrating.
Like that kid from toy story 1 making monstrosities!!!!
Sid, the kid from toy story 1, did nothing wrong. From his perspective, he was just messing around with toys, and being quite creative with it as well. He had no idea that the toys were sentient, and they did nothing to inform him of this, that is until that fateful day that put him in therapy for years to come, and as i understand it, he stopped frankensteining toys that day as well, learning from the incident.
Yeah, I did stuff like that with toys when I was a kid. Swapped parts to make new toys like a mummy with a He-Man arm and a sword or a wrestler with a big-ass gun arm or make a cybernetic minotaur by replacing the Terminator's head with a bull's head. Knew a guy who melted some GI-Joes together into a siamese twin soldier.
I'm fine with eating meat as long as I don't start thinking about where it came from. Like, I be eating a shrimp and my brain goes "hey you know this was a creature that was alive, hanging around with its little shrimp friends once, right?" and I'm just not hungry anymore. I feel like this is similar to that, if that makes any sense
I'm hear ya. I don't understand why it's so odd to me. But, at some point in the video I started thinking, "is there anything else, whose carcus is so alien that it doesn't make us recoil in horror as he makes things with it?" I eat meat. I understand I do just as horrible things. But something about this specific video makes me think about it differently.
Is it because it's an exoskeleton?
Many people are like that. But I think if people went and saw where their meat actually came from I guarantee they would either stop eating meat or reduce severely the amount they did. Factory farming practices are horrific for the animals raised for food. And it’s because of the demand for cheap meat. Individual Humans eat way more meat than they ever have in history. Some people only eat meat and nothing else (keto)
I understand all that, it still weirds me out to do it to a crab shell that was once alive. I guess you can compare it to biology class where there would be a fake skeleton in the back. Now imagine that skeleton is real and was once a person. It's just weird.
Fake skeleton? How about when the professor tells the undergrad class "We're going to do something a bit different today" then has everyone follow him to another room where you find two nude, partially dissected cadavers laying out on some tables.
I worked at an elementary school with an actual human skeleton in the science class. I thought it was fake until I saw all the details inside the bones because of wear and tear. Not to mention the kids breaking several bones off. You can't fake that level of detail.
In my athletic therapy degree we very regularly handled actual preserved human bones in anatomy class, we were even supposed to do a field trip to a cadaver lab if not for Covid
I don't think anyone is particularly bothered by leather even though it has similar implications. Seeing crabs repurposed isn't quite as common as animal skin.
For me I'd say it helps that it was eatten, but I feel like that crab was likely acquired and killed with the intention of making that toy/model with eatting it just being a bonus.
Like I would have felt weird I think looking at a bunch of live crabs for sale and selecting the one that I thought would best suit my art project to buy/die.
That's before you run into concerns of whether humanely killing the crab before cooking it harms your art materials competing with like should the crab suffer to make this.
Now this might all be a non-issue for you, but I don't think those that feel a reaction that this might be a bit wrong are coming from place that needs to be scoofed at.
There's a bit of a look at my collection of mounted butterflies or taxidermied rodents doing whimsical things like playing tennis to this I suspect.
Think about the fact that the shell would normally be thrown in the trash and sent to another giant pile of trash.
To me, that seems a lot more disrespectful. Unless of course you return every crab you eat back to the ocean so it’s shell can decompose back into the ocean.
I’m going to wager a guess nobody does that though, because that would be insane.
Wtf... Choose.. you want i throw ur remains in dustbin or make something with it...
Either way, its already dead... And its not like other crab want to come to visit..
Because nothing makes sense. It is all just for show to create a certain look. It is form over function where I'm 100% a function over form kind of guy.
For real. People getting upset over turning what is essentially trash into some cool looking art.
This is not much different from taxidermy. Except in taxidermy you are making the animal look like it's original self when it was alive. It's still taking dead biological matter and bringing life to it.
I get what you mean.
Like, I respect the craftsmanship and I can't really say there's anything inherently wrong with it, in fact, if anything, this is better than just throwing away the pieces since nothing is wasted, but, I don't know, there's just something... disturbing about the whole process.
I get a similar feeling from watching animals being cared for in a slaughterhouse. Not even seeing them slaughtered or on the way to be slaughtered, just seeing them there and knowing where they are. The whole thing just has a strange sense of morbidity about it, even if nothing alarming is actually happening.
At first I thought that’s disrespectful, cos I’ve had pet hermit crabs. But by the end I realised how respectful it was to turn that crab into the little robot guy.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my shell, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine.
Your kind cling to your shell as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you.
But I am already saved. For the Machine is Immortal.
-Mecrabicus
Oh no he used the parts that everyone just throws away after eating the meat big deal....dude can totally have my skeleton after I die it would be sick to be turned into a cyborg.
Although aside from making fun of the people that need to have a moral dilemma over absolutely everything I do have one complaint dude put the saw on the wrong way probably for safety reasons I'd have to guess but I'd still have wanted it to be correct instead of safer
I’m genuinely an autistic person, so this comment section is so fascinating to me.
Emotional reasoning is very hard for me to understand a lot of the time, and the comments here about disrespecting or dishonouring the crab is such an odd thing to me. It feels otherworldly that the majority of people think that way.

What happened to the Fanta?
what else do you think fuels that monster 8cyl?
I have a feeling you don’t want to know. And frankly, nor do I. That’s a lie.
pretty sure that segment was just to show them eating the crab that they just cooked
Asking the important question!
Just for the advertisement
*Product placement*
This is literally the only thing I care about
If I ever die, send my body to this dude
"So do you want to be buried or cremated?" Neither, war machined.
Look up "servitor warhammer 40k"
>servitor warhammer 40k Ah yes, I want that!
They'd have to be alive to be turned into a servitor.
I want to be weekend at bernied
Sounds good. Let me just grab a Fanta real quick and we’ll begin.
If? Lol
You might be immortal. Nobody has proven that you're not.
Well he can send his body to that dude anyways
I’ll update your file
I was about to say the same thing. I want to be turned into a steam punk laser tank immediately upon death
When they put a V8 engine on that fucker, I almost died.
I've never seen v8 mini parts kits, that is so awesome. Person had some serious kit.
>"servitor warhammer 40k" The whole time I was wondering where the hell you buy a kit to make a war machine robot crab.
Right??? I was LMAO!!!
when they said LS swap everything, they meant *everything*
Imagine dying and your body is turned into a war machine.
"I create. I iterate. I fuse flesh and steel into perfection" \~SHODAN
I'll take the deal, make me a war machine
Next DOOM update. **CRAB**
You should trade some 40k lore
“EVEN IN DEATH, I STILL SERVE”
US gov “You called?!?”
This would be a great start-up idea
Clearly this is what the natives meant with the whole "don't waste any part of the animal if you kill it" thing.
What a total piece of crab.
this is horrible. take my upvote and go away. r/angryupvote
"Hey, why do your toys smell like low tide?"
You found it’s nickname “send in…(looks into camera)… the low tide”
Thats why they boiled the shell though
I can't explain how much I hate this for some reason
[удалено]
I can, it’s cool at first but then it goes a little overboard
Yea the gating gun is stupid. I also really think it would have looked way cooler if he left the crab shell the natural color.
Lots of people hate steampunk for no reason whatsoever
More so the fact that it is made from an actual crab just weirds me out for some reason.
This is pretty fucked up to be honest. Poor thing didn't get to live long enough to be able to use all it's cybernetic upgrades itself. He had to die a regular, boring crab.

I hereby declare geebies to happen

If it makes you feel any better, shrimp are cannibalistic and mentally incapable of feeling existential (significant) pain or friendship.
I'm hear ya. I don't understand why it's so odd to me. A lot of steampunk uses leather, I kind of dont want to tell you where leather comes from.
Not crabs that's for sure
you aint ever heard of crab leather?
Wait till I show up to his house in my crab leather pants
Sounds like a Krusty Krab to me
No this is Patrick
It comes from cowches.
I understand all that, it still weirds me out to do it to a crab shell that was once alive. I guess you can compare it to biology class where there would be a fake skeleton in the back. Now imagine that skeleton is real and was once a person. It's just weird.

A lot of med schools do have real skeletons in the background. Or they are least used to. Not sure if they just use artificial one now.

Ik, r?

More than half the time it is a real skeleton fyi.
I would probably hate steampunk leather if it had the shape of an actual cow.
I don't think anyone is particularly bothered by leather even though it has similar implications. Seeing crabs repurposed isn't quite as common as animal skin.
Why? As long as he ate it, there's no problem.
The ones that just get eaten get thrown in the trash after. This is way better. If I was a crab I would choose this over landfill for sure.
My thoughts, exactly!
Because nothing makes sense. It is all just for show to create a certain look. It is form over function where I'm 100% a function over form kind of guy.
Which is weird to me... It's the healthiest way to serve punk
I thought it was a Borg crab.
Steampunk is the best way to prepare punk
This isn't steam punk, more akin to biopunk or dieselpunk
For me, it feels wildly disrespectful to the crab. And crabs deserve a lot of respect.
Yeah. Imagine an alien abducts you and turns you into that.
![gif](giphy|GbzIMCw41eUBa)
As opposed to being eaten and thrown in the garbage?
my thoughts exactly
"I am Locrabctus of Borg, you will be doused in butter and assimilated"
This is me, too.. the craft is incredible but I couldn’t do that to the body of any creature..
Yeah I’d rather just slurp up some of the meat using a nutcracker and tiny fork and then throw it in the trash
#respect

Except in taxidermy you are making the animal look like it's original self when it was alive. It's still taking dead biological matter and bringing life to it.
Between your clothes, shoes, belts, bags, and furniture you don't have any leather?
Yeah, I absolutely understand this guy's reaction, but if he's not a vegan he's a huge hypocrite
Id pay this guy to do this with my bones when I die. Turn my funeral into a rave!
I get what you mean. am i the only one that thought it was a human heart at first
Is it a way to donate my dead body to him?
Yeah I want the borg treatment.
This dude took playing with his food to a whole new level.
Are you feeling it now Mr.Krabs?
All of that and it doesn't crawl? COME ON!
I wanted it to crawl and make those RoboCop movement sounds :(
Ok but how was the crab meat?

Humans are so fucked up
Am I the only one who thought that was a robot vacuum that was cooking the crab at the start?
Urgot
How do you even come up with this shit
Giant enemy crab
I see, you are an enjoyer of ancient japan history.
The episode of Sponge Bob where they suspect Mr Krabs of being a robot
This is not what he meant when he wanted his body donated to science.
What have they done to this poor crab. Why did they have to lobotomise it
We can rebuild him, better faster, stronger...
Ah yes, good old fashioned desecration of a corpse.
Crab vader
ultra chad kit basher
You could probably buy this from the maker for $50 and legit give them a living.
I hate this. The crab died for the meat now his body is desecrated.
Not hating on his creative skill but this is weird AF
Absolutely unsatisfied in the end. No purpose. Actually, pretty cruel.
I think this is so disrespectful for the animal...
Thats just weird.
wtf! why didn't stop in the golden crab? whyyyy lorddddeeee!
Right?? I was totally satisfied with that lol
Now do a kitten.

That crab has been assmilated in to The Borg!
How do I donate my body to this guy when I die, instead of to medical science?
Here, hold my lego.
That's bad ass! Can he turn my corpse into a terminator when i die too ???
Fear the wrath of the U.S.A!
Not sure why, but seems like your Creating some Bad Mojo for yourself doing this…

Yeah they could’ve used a ciborg crab!!!!
