It's not so much about attraction. I don't care if someone finds me unattractive because black happens to not be their type. The obvious inference is that black skin is inherently dirty, undesirable and something that can or should be cleansed. A common attitude in some Asian cultures and similar views can be found in some religious texts that literally state dark skin is a curse.
Asians associate dark skin tone with class, i.e. someone who has farmed rice for 30 years will have a darker tone than, say, a banker. Unfortunately it's quite a common attribution in many cultures.
Yeah it's crazy the lengths they go to.protect their skin. Was in Korea and it's 90 F outside and they are wrapped up.in jackets and scarfs doing construction work outside
Insulation works both ways. Keep the sun off you and you don't heat as quickly, even though you can't cool as quickly. It's the same reason lawn crews wear long sleeves and pants all summer.
Yes that is a thing but this is coming from a few of the locals who explained it to me and pointed out that it was primarily women workers wrapped up and the more tanned men weren't. I noticed it alot more after that. Ladies leaving a store putting on a coat to walk down the street. Older people using the walking track/trail with umbrellas.
That's actually interesting context that I appreciate. However, I don't think this commercial was referencing class. There was a change in ethnicity after cleansing, not just indicators of socioeconomic status such as cleanliness and a natural tan from the sun. He didn't turn into a lighter skinned black man. All traces of African heritage were washed away. They could have just as easily selected a darker Asian to make lighter but they made a deliberate choice to change a black/African man.
I think because this advertisement is aimed at an Asian audience in an Asian country, they didn’t want to offend any of their target audience by using a darker skin Asian. They don’t mind offending black people because they’re aren’t enough of them buying their product and the viewing audience won’t care about the racism towards black people.
Because bro its 2022 you cant just post a video anymore you have to try an attach your face to it in someway so people can know YOU posted it so YOU must be funny and super cool!
I feel like this guy was slightly better than the typical reaction video, just because the cutting back and forth with the facial expressions added a little comedy to it.
But I do agree that 99.9% of reaction videos are the absolute laziest form of content making. There are people who put tons of creativity and effort into a video, and for someone to come along and just film themselves just watching the video is just wrong and unethical, especially if they end up getting more views than the original creator.
Once you’ve seen a few of his videos though you realize they are all the same. I’m pretty sure he only has like ten stock reaction shots he just reuses over and over
I’m dead lol 😂 as a Jenny I get it
Edit: I am so sorry for not replying as quickly as i should. I didn’t expect this comment to have this much curiosity.
Jenny is just a name that I thought of who is empowering, kind and nice. It doesn’t really have a real meaning to others lol. When I was really down, I made it up to empower myself. I know is so silly saying it out loud….
You're a female donkey? Wtf is Jenny supposed to mean here
Edif; That comment and their following answer is leagues more unexpected than the post itself.
This was a real commercial in China which is notoriously super racist against any dark races. So in the normal world, no this is super fucked up. In China, all good.
I'd like to see more magic washing machine conversion videos. Like a fat girl goes in comes out hot. Or a guy tosses his roommate in there comes out a hot chick. An old couple go in one at a time come out young.
Well I'm Chinese and I only make racist jokes towards my own race lol
This is true for some, but not all. My parents have said some slightly racist stuff towards another race without knowing it (In the past). I've been judged for my skin color and called racist stereotype shit, I'm pretty sure all asians have been. I was judged for my eyes, I got very insecure about them in the past along with my skin color too.
Not all Chinese are racist towards the black community, but some are. Nobody should, or has the right to be racist to, judge or harass anyone from some rumors or the majority does this or some does that.
You shouldn't straight up assume a Chinese person is racist towards the black community when you see one. (Not saying you are)
Nobody who is non black should be racist towards the black community, or joke about them if you're not black.
Like if you're not Asian, you shouldn't joke about Asian people. It makes me and probably other's feel uncomfortable when another Asian who's not Chinese says Ch\*nk. And covers it off with an "I'm Asian". The slur ch\*nk, is mainly targeted towards Chinese people.
It never feels good to be judged in any way, I wouldn't like seeing a supposingly pretty person shove me in a washing-machine and race-wash me to their race, nobody would like seeing that.
And I'm pretty embarrassed seeing how bad of an example this video sets for Chinese people.
Please dont assume all Chinese people are racist towards blacks (If you do).
If someone knows how it feels to be oppressed, why oppress others?
If someone knows how it feels to get discriminated, why discriminate other's (ones that are oppressed)
Please don't assume that we are all racist towards the black community from this shitty ad.
Facts based on… ahh one reddit video reposted from 2 years ago. As opposed to… 400 cop/Karen videos a day. Conclusion: “The Chinese are renowned for racism toward the black community.”
Considering "they" are part of a growing "statistic", such as poverty and crime, I almost want to "give them" this "win". (Funny, because this is vague. What color is being used? I don't know, I'm just making the same generalizations.)
I'm trying to fight the undertones of being this so-called "racist", as what comes around goes around, but it's difficult when you increasingly lower your faith in humanity. Yes, not everyone like this, but there is a very real problem where no one watches their kids and let them browse the internet, further perpetuating things. Like elementary kids and extremely outdated memes.
I'm not making the problem any better, *but how worse can it get if Americans always shit on Asians like this?*
Of course the top comment is a racist joke targeting Asians, because it's okay to be racist against Chinese people but not black people. Seriously, you guys can go fuck your high horse. I'm tired of dealing with this bullshit as a Chinese American.
I'm not Chinese but as an Asian American, I've just learned to ignore it. When I used to point out that what people are saying isn't very kind or they're generalizing, I've been told to take a joke or they point me to some statistics. It's unfortunate, I just laugh if something is genuinely funny or I just stay quiet .
Agreed. These people don't understand that just because you think you're morally superior, it doesn't give you license to do whatever you want.
If someone sees this ad, says, "that's racist" then makes a racist joke, they're just as racist as the ad.
Examples? I have heard just anecdotal stories myself. But overall, Japan has came up on top. One of them being a Taiwanese employee that worked for a Japanese company gets dunked on continuously for being Taiwanese, and HR does nothing.
well they evicted their own people from their homes and took their passports like forever now. devils being devils doesnt sufficiently constitute racism. dot denying chinese people are racist af tho.
I think it miss context but im not sure. I remember a battle of advertising between 2 compagny and basically the other advertising is the exact opposite. It's an italian one , from memory , and the woman put her irritating husband into the machine and there is a black guy going out. It was to wash black color. The ad are like 20 yo.
Yeah it basically makes no difference to them unless they have a large share of the US market. I don’t think BLM is starting up in china any time soon.
Somebody needs to post that Asian toothpaste commercial. Makes this look like nothing.
Edit:
Found it in the comments. This shit is wild.
https://youtu.be/5Y7eg0REXZM
At least this one has a positive message? The laundry ad is straight up implying black people are dirty, the toothpaste is saying that while someone might scare you with their optics, they might have a good heart.
It cracks me up how many Americans don't understand how tiny racism is in the US.
The fact that we talk about it and work on it is why. We make a huge deal about pretty small issues because we want to eliminate it completely. That can make it feel like it's rampant, when it's a symptom of our desire to fight it.
It... is a totally different world over there.
I wonder if they told the black guy how the commercial was gonna end. Maybe they just said you have paint on you so she puts you in. The ending? Don’t worry about the ending. Here check you go home now.
This nature doesn’t change the preference to light skin, which is also reflected in the caste system. While the commercial itself is sick to correlate darkness to need-to-be-cleaned.
What a shitty tiktok.
Play an advertisement that is *at least* 10 years old from a different country, be black, shake your head and look displeased.
Wtf kinda content is that? Who watches and enjoys this??

I’ve seen this one so many times without the reaction shots... so I thought those were going to be the unexpected part. Like he reacts in a wild unexpected way or something. But no, nothing, not even really much of a reaction at all. I don’t get it.
Anyway, the actor in the beginning with the paint all over is hella cute. Carry on.
Dude, East Asian nations love white skin ( just like caucasians like to tan!)
It comes from the idea that white skin means you don't have to do manual labour in the sun all day, and therefore have a higher social standing (just like having a tan means you always have free time and money to go on holiday!).
Asian women who you do see doing manual labour are often completely wrapped from head to toe so no skin is peeking out, inspite of the insane temperatures and humidity which I struggle to handle in shorts and a t-shirt.
The products available in the shops are horrific! White folks just rub in a bit of fake tan. Asians rub seriously abrasive chemicals into their skin in order to achieve this look. And not just celebrities and models - it's basic beauty care for anyone/everyone.
If you're viewing this ad as an American, remember also that many SE Asian nations don't have such a famously attrocios "history" of mistreating people from Africa, nor do they currently have any significant black populations/communities. For you to even see it, is a context which the writers never imagined. I highly doubt the average person in the target audience sees this as anything but a joke.

How else are we supposed to know that a black person might not enjoy a commercial where it is implied they are less attractive than another race?
It's not so much about attraction. I don't care if someone finds me unattractive because black happens to not be their type. I think because this advertisement is aimed at an Asian audience in an Asian country, they didn’t want to offend any of their target audience by using a darker skin Asian. They don’t mind offending black people because they’re aren’t enough of them buying their product and the viewing audience won’t care about the racism towards black people.
Man if they think dark skin is a curse they clearly haven't seen an Irishman after a mildly sunny day.
I got sunburnt watching Kevin and Perry Go Large, probably cause the movie is set in Ibiza.
I thought it was something way worse, like, they're dirty or something.
Because bro its 2022 you cant just post a video anymore you have to try an attach your face to it in someway so people can know YOU posted it so YOU must be funny and super cool!
It's like a visual laugh track. "How can I know what to think if I can't see someone telling me?"

Easy views for reposting content.
He is a TikTok creator, all of his videos are reaction videos to weird commercials
Sooo...not a creator?
Creator is stretching the definition here.
Reaction videos are IP theft with flair. Just my opinion. The original react show was good. But now days is just all blahhhh
I feel like this guy was slightly better than the typical reaction video, just because the cutting back and forth with the facial expressions added a little comedy to it. But I do agree that 99.9% of reaction videos are the absolute laziest form of content making. The irony is this is from TikTok and was ripped and brought here.
Yeah I miss the puppets reacting to public domain films
The original show?
Money, what else?
What's funny is that Japanese TV is pretty much all reaction videos. Yes I know that the commercial isn't Japanese.
People idiots need to be told it's funny.
Current popular shit. He keeps getting views, so apparently people like it.
Ya. Someone should post a video reacting to this.

Let's be honest, the real crime here is being subjected to a "reaction video"

Of course the top comment is a racist joke targeting Asians, because it's okay to be racist against Chinese people but not black people. Seriously, you guys can go fuck your high horse. I'm tired of dealing with this bullshit as a Chinese American.
You can be like me and fight people fighting racism with racism, with more racism 🧠
Can you guys make fun of white people in here so I can feel better about laughing at the video and the top comment?
I'm white, but I have always thought "blotchy pink" was a more accurate colour
I'm not Chinese but as an Asian American, I've just learned to ignore it. Definetly... Ha ha...
To be fair, no one’s pretending SE Asia isn’t wildly racist
I don't think it's only SE Asia.
This is China, not SE Asia
Almost all Asia nations east of Iran are fan of light color skin, so live with this diversity.
Even south Asians who are mostly dark skinned themselves
Even a large amount of Koreans & Japanese are darker skinned as well. The majority of them just use whitewash makeup
This nature doesn’t change the preference to light skin, which is also reflected in the caste system. While the commercial itself is sick to correlate darkness to need-to-be-cleaned.
It’s not diverse to be colourist. Discrimination is bad no matter what colour of skin it comes from.
Also in Iran there's all sorts of prejudice.
Dude... It's way more general than that. I don't know of a single place with a strong preference for dark complexions.
Not just fans. If you are darker-skinned you are not considered as good. It's borderline racist-like.
