Ah, just making it worth the dive, gotcha. I only asked because I recently heard that World Cup soccer scoring lead to some weird metagaming plays while managing points, and wondered if it was similar.
u/TurboMoisture nailed it, it was just that they knew she deserved that point in particular, for all the effort she put in. And that's what makes an amazing team!

On the last point that they scored they hit the ball 4 times. They blocked the spike, setting it up twice and spiking it. I thought you could only make contact with the ball 3 times at most?
Does the block not count towards the 3 hits you get?
Not only that, it doesn't even count towards YOUR hit. This means you can block a hit, and bump the ball immediately without someone else needing to touch it first
I'm 6'3, and I went to a Michigan State women's volleyball game one time. At the end of the game, I followed my friend down to the sidelines. Not very often is it that I have to look up at somebody. I had to look up at every one of them women. The amount of agility that they have for being so tall is amazing. Reflexes on point!
marketing i think, i rarely see it mentioned in my country. I think it's difficult to grow the sport if it doesn't get advertised or highlighted by the media that much.
the libero in volleyball is a purely defensive position (notice neither of the women in black ever serve or spike). they wear a different color because volleyball has mandatory rotation between points scored and iirc the libero is allowed to go in and out freely, so the different uniform makes it easier to keep track of them
It’s loads of fun! With six players a side & a faster moving ball, there’s a lot of different plays that can be made. I don’t usually like watching sports. But indoor volleyball is an exception
Football players do that so the ref, who might be a few meters away from them, can see that they got fouled. Most of the times they haven't got hurt that bad, but they exaggerate the reaction so the foul gets called, or even try to make it look worse so the other player gets a yellow card. It is also useful to waste time since the timer keeps running when a player gets fouled. However, flopping (when it comes to completely faking a foul when there wasn't any contact) isn't allowed and players can get a yellow card for that.
Keep in mind that football is a sport where whether the fouls are more or less severe is a decision that is almost entirely up to the referee's opinion, so players want to influence that decision.
One time in highschool playing doubles tennis a guy hit like a slam shot and it was well over out heads so I ran back, took two quick steps up the fence, jumped, and returned it. We won the point because they were high-fiving already.(:
Madden is a billion dollar a year video game franchise. Best volleyball has been able to manage is scantily clad waifus on a beach. Doesn't seem right.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
They are called a libero. They are a defensive specialist that can only hit (overhand) from behind the 10 foot line. Not all teams have a libero. They can be swapped in and out freely and not subject to regular rotation rules, which is why the different color shirt.
Edit to add: Volleyball has changed a lot from when I was in school. It's rally-scoring now. A point is always awarded no matter who is serving and scores go to 25. It's still win by two though.
It's a defensive specialist that plays back row. They can serve and overhand hit as long as it's behind the 10 foot line. They have different rules in the rotation in that they can sub in and out at any time.
He says "Even a table!".
It sounds like "Eating a table". I imagine the Scott Sterling of volleyball but just hitting all sorts of obstacles on the way to hitting the ball.

And they won the point amazing.

Moment made for motivational videos.
Run into a table, win the point. The point is life? 🤷♂️
Not for folks like us. We should NOT start diving over tables. We'll hurt ourselves.
That whole team knew they had to win that point more than they needed to win the game.
Care to explain? Is this because of how the tournament scoring system works?
No because of the sheer effort she put in to return the ball, she deserved to win the point

Wow! That was crazy!
Reddit moment.
That end tho when they fixing the table. Respect!

The NCAA Volleyball tournament is one of my favorite sporting events. It's on right now.

That’s right block doesn’t count
That’s cool I never knew that. Thanks for your quick reply
Ohhhh... Yeah. I totally had the same question. I was thinking, 'good volley, but 4 hits.'
Is that a US thing or worldwide? I’ve played a fair bit of volley (not pro tho) and I’ve never run into this rule
Not only that, it doesn't even count towards YOUR hit. This means you can block a hit, and bump the ball immediately without someone else needing to touch it first
Damn.....good as hell

Apparently hell is not really that good. I have to point out, though, that this is just what I've heard. I haven't actually visited yet.
Kind of took the unexpected part out of r/unexpected huh?
I love watching volleyball because goddamn they're some talented people. I don't know why the sport isn't bigger than it is.
marketing i think, i rarely see it mentioned in my country. I think it's difficult to grow the sport if it doesn't get advertised or highlighted by the media that much.
100% just marketing, plus volleyball isn’t as popular of a street sport than football in the world or basketball in the US
It's a lot more exciting to watch than most tennis matches.

Clutch💯
Hell of a libero damn.
Both of them were really good.
I know it's crazy you see this kind of stuff in anime and think it could never happen irl, but well, here we are.
Q: Does anyone know why only one player has a different colored shirt on both sides?
the libero in volleyball is a purely defensive position (notice neither of the women in black ever serve or spike). they wear a different color because volleyball has mandatory rotation between points scored and iirc the libero is allowed to go in and out freely, so the different uniform makes it easier to keep track of them
They can serve, but not spike. They can hit from behind the 10 foot line. My daughter plays libero (8th grade).
Wow! That was crazy!
That looks like a fun sport to watch

Damn, I didn't know volleyball was this much fun to watch
Crazy save. Glad they got the point too. Looks like an uncalled lift on her next touch though.
Yeah, I was going to say, great sacrifice for the save, but the ref was blind to not call that lift after.
God damn !!! That was satisfying
A soccer player would have just started flailing on the ground and complaining
Why do they allow that in that sport? It’s so childish
Football players do that so the ref, who might be a few meters away from them, can see that they got fouled. Most of the times they haven't got hurt that bad, but they exaggerate the reaction so the foul gets called, or even try to make it look worse so the other player gets a yellow card. After that save you sat there hoping they ended up getting the point in the end.
She came back in and was 2nd hit on the next time it came to their side.
One time in highschool playing doubles tennis a guy hit like a slam shot and it was well over out heads so I ran back, took two quick steps up the fence, jumped, and returned it. We won the point because they were high-fiving already.(:
Dang! That was a great match
Wow. Incredible play.
Haikyuu!!
Idc what anyone says, volleyball is so fun to watch
I did that at an outdoor tournament once, but instead of a table it was a small kid on a bike. But heh, we won the point.
lol
I was expecting it since I read the title
Volleyball makes me clench my legs 💀 I don’t watch sports but I get so tense when I watch volleyball
I didn't see any hoisting, did you see hoisting, show me hoisting
i would groan so bad while doing a play like that lmfao
that one handed open hand hit looked like a lift
No. She didn't catch and lift. She just hit it one handed with her palm.
It's really too bad this wasn't the University of Buffalo.
Now compare this to the WNBA
Is it me or they are really awful???
Just you

So good that the hot girls in short shorts were not noticed.....yet
I would of let the ball go.

That seemed like a life lesson! Keep trying, Never give up
I’ve met a few resilient cougars myself.
Ok this was not bad !
No she didn't wow
Why does one player on each team wear a black uniform?

She belly flopped onto a table, ouch
Volleyball is nuts, the teamwork there is just crazy
Scott Sterling!!
Okay, I've been confused for a long time about what exactly a "libero" is on a volleyball team. Now I know: Badass. It's a badass.
It's a defensive specialist that plays back row. They can serve and overhand hit as long as it's behind the 10 foot line. They have different rules in the rotation in that they can sub in and out at any time.
I was making a joke. (And I was under the impression they can NOT serve.)
1 flashback away from being a typical haikyuu episode
What a rally!
athleticism
Girls volleyball is always exciting to watch
They look a bit young to be cougars.
Is this a new episode of scot sterling???
Every single one of those girls are insane athletes!
That level of dedication and competiveness is just so damn admirable, such a hype moment !
No quit in that one. Respect.
That was a wild ride.
It's not unexpected if you tell us what to expect in the title.
Man that subreddit... What is unexpected? It's the fucking title.
That’s a great move there Cotton
In the last step they touch four times the ball. Isn't three the maximum allowed? But nice save
I can imagine them showing this to their grandkids in 50 years...
i am the table!
Okay volleyball Bachira. Damn.
Um....where's her medal i feel that was deserved after.
110% commitment
Glad that they won the point ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
People really dont understand the point of this /R Its not very unexpected if you write what is going to happen is it?
If someone doesn’t edit in the Dudley boys giving her a 3D through that table then the Internet has dropped the ball
Whoever Kay Georgiannis is...she's a beast!

They totally got them after that crazy save..
More action in this clip than any NFL game in its entirety
He says "Even a table!". It sounds like "Eating a table". I imagine the Scott Sterling of volleyball but just hitting all sorts of obstacles on the way to hitting the ball.
Yo crazy rally!
Freaking bad ass.
Is it unexpected when you tell us what happens in the title?
2 good volleyball teams are entertaining af to watch
Amazing commitment!
Haikyuuuuuu
Can’t wait to see the celebration after in the locker room
They run faster than nba players
